Daughter has a hole in her heart - Visa 457 query - Medical issue

Hi Everyone

We are now in the process of applying for our 457 visa (we are using a migration lawyer through the company that are sponsoring me). I was looking to find out if anyone else has been in a similar situation to us. My 1 year old daughter was born with a VSD (a hole in her heart). She has been under the care of our local pediatric doctor and is also regularly reviewed by a cardiologist from Alder Hey. They are very pleased with her progress and do not believe that she will need an operation as she has been "thriving and doing well". Her medication hasn't been upped for 6 months which is a good indicator that she does not need to be on them much longer, as this is generally done on body weight (which has been steadily been going up).

Clearly one of the questions on the application is about heart disease which I have therefore answered yes to (a hole in the heart is actually a congenial heart defect but some class this as a congenial heart disease). With the application I have included a very positive letter from our local pediatrician explaining that she is doing well, what medication she is on and also it states that the hole looks like it will eventually close spontaneously due to a flap of skin growing on it and that she does not need to see a cardiologist for at least 12 months).

Has anyone out on this forum got a heart defect or who has heart disease that has had their VISA go through.

I am so worried we will be turned down!

Best wishes

She will need a standard medical and you will certainly / probably asked to get an expert opinion.

If her current consultants are saying she is well controlled on medication and is not going to need surgery then I suspect it'll be ok.

Its a common problem and her consultants write a positive assessment I can not see it being a problem.

Good luck and make sure when she is old enough that you get her signed up for Nippers at your local surf club.

Hi L

We had a lovely member on here who moved to Melbourne and her son had heart issues that meant he would need a transplant in a few years. I've lost touch with her now so I can't ask her to chat with you, but I just wanted to let you know they made it.

Hi Poochibabes,

My youngest son Kian was born with a vsd and also another problem called tetrology of fallot....heart defects, basically he was wired back to front and hence everyhting went the wrong way round, plus the hole. He had his last op when he was 5 months and he has 6 monthly checkups in hosp at the min. His surgeon does not think he needs another op and has written me a lovely report to accompany my visa. As i too was up the wall and couldnt get straight answers from any agents.

Anyway, we were going through the 176 process and in a turn around oh got offered a job on 8th may, we are now doing the 457. It was granted on bank hol monday (this week) i did not tick the box for disease as this as you know yourself is far from what it is, and it doesnt ask about defect. I raised this with the agent (based in Sydney) and he came back to me after checking with the CO that that is not an issue as it is seen as a corrective op. Our visas took 2 days to be granted and none of us were asked to go for meds, ans i have 3 school age children inc Kian.

I would not worry yourself, I did and it was fine. thank god!

best of luck

Hi

Please dont worry. We are in a similiar position with our 4 year old, except he was born with congential lung deformality. Hes been under St Georges, but is other wise very healthy. Great ormonde street have said no intervention needed. Hes on no medication now, and doing really well. However, like you we are dreading the medical. i have a very positive letter from st georges who say there is no reason why he cant emigrate, but you do worry.

He has to have a flight test at the brompton in 2 weeks, just to determine whether he will need oxygen for the flight, though they are saying he wont, they want to be safe than sorry !

im praying everything will be ok, but to be honest, they should be no reason why it wont be (thats what i keep telling myself anyway)

Stay positive, i am, and im sure it will all be ok.

Hugs to your little girl and good luck

Trasi xx

Hi Flexi

We have been requested to attend medicals (7 days after submitting our Visa Application). I've not been able to make an appointment yet but should be doing that tomorrow morning. I will let you know what happens on the day etc and our timescales.

P.s. I spoke to my daughter's cardiologist this morning and he said in causes such as my daughters they usually approve the Visa, its just if we get an akward so and so that we would be very unlucky not to get through.

Good luck with everything xx

Hi x our son was also treated by alder hey for sub aortic stenosis and has had 2 previous open heart surgeries. We came out on a 457 visa with him needing no medical, we just brought out a letter from alder hey and his yearly check ups here are done by a Cardologist that used to work with the surgeon that did my sons operations. It appears the doctors often work in both the uk and oz as they are training and have a good knowledge of each other.

When we went for residency he had too have an extra appointment with the cardiologist who completed a full check and sent info straight to immigration. Our son will need surgery again in the future and immigration were made well aware of that, we experienced no issues in obtaining our PR.

Everything crossed for you, I am sure it will all be fine x

Hi Loopylou that is really good to know. Its not by any chance Dr Robert Gusto? My daughter is under the care of Mr Gordon Gladman at Alder Hey and he mentioned about one of his former colleagues going out there.

I'm not sure why Zara needs a medical but it maybe as she needs a follow up appointment/and or she hasn't been operated on so isn't classed as cured yet?
