Hi

Ive had my medical today, and as dreaded they have requested a specialist report to describe in detail my kidney disease.

Is there anybody out there or anybody who knows anybody out there who has been through this and got through?? Please please can someone give me a glimpse of hope I can slowly feel my dreams sliping away

Hi, it will depend on your kidney disease. I would check with a medical insurance provider in Oz to see how much it will cost you for private medical insurance. The Drs in the medical need all the information so it will delay things but I wouldn't worry. There is nothing that you can do to change the process at the moment. The process is not meant to be discriminatory to those with disabilities or conditions that could be seen as a disability. They just want to ensure that you are able to work and pay for your own keep so that the government don't foot the bill for any treatment. At least if you know that you can get insurance that's one less thing off of your to do list. Best of Luck! Sx

I have a genetic kidney stone disease, I can't remember that they made an issue of it but the dr at the medical said it was manageable.

To be honest I haven't had any treatment at a public hospital and I get a small rebate from medicare from my appointments. I go through my private health insurance for all my ops and appointments, scans etc..

I would definitely recommend that you get private health cover.

Hello

I have a kidney problem i took a letter from my nephrologist to the medical which explained to the panel doctor i will be fine and in his opinion i shouldnt need any treatment. When i checked on line the missus and kids were finalised but mine was refered but after a few days mine was finalised. Make sure your docter gives you a clear letter saying you will be fine if that is what he thinks and hopefully you will be ok....

Good luck

Thanks Guys

Im trying to stay positive you never know.

Got the specilaist report through today, its ok, just confirmed I will need dialysis/transplant some time in the future but it wont be for another 5 years at least. Im hoping because we are applying under a 457 and they are intially 4 years this goes in my favour, they might think we will be back in UK by the time this happens.

This time next week hopefully all will be revealed, cant take much more of this waiting
