lindade
I have two very large vintage trunks (think titanic) they are 100 years old. They are painted wood, leather trims and studded. A little rust and some TLC needed. I would hate to part with them. I asked 3 different removal guys and 3 different answers. 1. They'll be fine 2. no way, not worth it. 3. Do.. cause they are fab and worth it (even if they have to be fumigated) So my question, who do I ask? that can give me the Answer. Can I email pictures to someone in AQIS? can I get them fumigated here and supply a cert? help please
Guest Aussie in the UK
I would advise that you contact AQIS, describe them as you have here - "painted WOOD, LEATHER trims... A little RUST" (those are the things that will cause issues) - and send some pictures and ask them directly. They are the only ones who can tell you for sure whether or not the trunks will be allowed into Australia, shipping companies can only advise of their opinions. If possible secure a written reply from AQIS to be enclosed with the trunks so that once they reach quarantine in Australia you will have the letter to back you up if they should be refused entry by a particularly picky customs official. lindade
Thanks. That makes sense... The worst that can happen is a big fat NO.
