Hi PIOers, can anybody out there recomend any web sights i can look at to find a car on the Gold Coast. Not moving over until April but whant to get an idear of what we will get for our money. It will need to be second hand cars and probably no more than $5000. I have no idear what to expect so any advice would be cool.

Cheers.

John.

Hi Guys,

Be prepared, 2nd hand cars are much more expensive than you think, we really were shocked. Suppose it really depends on what you are looking for. You could look at something like www.zupps.com.au they have a second hand car search, they are a main dealer here on the coast.

We paid $13,000 for a 2 & half year old Hyundai Elantra, we needed a family car and this was about the cheapest.

Hi can't reiterate enough what em has said second hand cars are sooooooo much more expensive with a lot more mileage on them so be prepared. I had a vauxhall corsa in the Uk and have bought a holden barina 2005 (the sanme as a corsa!!) last Friday paid $12,000 30,000miles on the clock.

For $5000 look to get a 15 year old car, which you could pick up the UK for 500 quid. I sold my 2001 BMW 530i sport and for about 1000 pounds less, I got a 2001 Polo here!!!

Best to buy something brand new on a lease plan. At least you get a warranty and usually breakdown cover.

Hiya we sometimes do work with this garage on the gold coast when we have new arrivals ,,have a look at www.grmdcars.com and if you see anything nearer your arrival date let me know, alternatively hubby can do vehicle inspections on your behalf ,also look at ebay australia and Trading Post - Buy and sell cars, sell boats, sell dogs and much more online Australia wide as they also have cars in

Good news is they retain their value better so in two years' time it's not a matter of contemplating just leaving it parked somewhere when the rego bill comes in!

Thats very kind of you, thank you. I think im rather shocked at the price of cars from what ive seen. It seems everything is far more costly than we imagined. The rent on a house and what you get for it seems realy bad to. It has also been sugested that we buy a car at auction but we have never done that before and would not know what to look for, we could also purchase a new car but i dont know how long it would be before we can get credit and we need a car. I dont want to spend several thousand £ on a car that would only cost hundreds in the UK, thats just chucking money away. How do people over in Oz afford a car at such prices? Well this was def an unexpected obstical, never mind im sure it will come good and we can always buy a tandem pushbike.

Well the fact is many people drive around in crappy cars. It feels weird here when you see so many Kia's and Hyundai's which aren't the best brand of cars in the world. For cheap value for money you'd be best with a Holden or a Ford of some sort. There are loads around, the parts are cheap and they are ok. The problem is when you sell these cars on, you face massive over supply and hence sell second hand cars for a lot less than you think.

I wanted to buy an BMW M3 Csl here. You can get one in the uk for about 30 grand and was approx. 55k brand new. Over here, wait for it....it retailed for $257,000 new!!!! about 115k pounds!!

Toyota's are popular here, probably because they are soo reliable, but they are sooooooooooo boring.zzzzz

Good luck.

Im totally offended whats wrong with Kia & hyundia (only kidding) lol

Not on the gold coast but thought i'd put my tuppence up. I bought a hyundai excel when i first arrived for $5000 (4 months ago)1998 model. Dont get me wrong yes there are alot of bangers on the road & a lot of mileage on the clock but i still have my excel & have given it to my son when he passes his test. I have just bought a Kia Rio brand new ex demo 5k on the clock for $15000.

Good Luck

The Hyundai's and Kia's of this world have the lowest safety levels compared to major car companies. You would be better off getting a Ford Focus or a Toyota.

In the UK, have you seen a Grandeur on the roads....nope...you would rather pick up a 2nd hand prestige car.

The fact is the choice of cars is pathetic. I mean they have just starting selling the Skoda Octavia over here!!

Also this is a friend of mine's website, he tries to specialise in Euro Cars. If nothing else it will give you an idea of what the prices are like here.
