  1. We aren’t 100% yet but SA and NSW are options at the moment. I am aware that it will take a long time but there is a lot to consider re selling our house and our mortgage deal coming to an end during summer next year. We were hoping to sell the house next summer and stay with family for a bit then head off autumn time next year. I think this may be a little unrealistic though. Our agent had quoted around 12 months from start to finish of the process which we started in June this year but from other people’s timelines I think we will be quite a bit off from this.

Have you received  your visa grant lavers?

  2. Bear with me if this is a really stupid question but I’m still trying to get my head around how the process all works. Say we go for a 190 visa with state sponsorship. When we submit our EOI is it at this point that the wait is based on points/skill shortage etc? So the wait time for an invitation is based on supply and demand? Then when we submit our actual visa application are we just in the same que as everyone else? So say the visa processing time is 9-10 months everyone is in the same boat, no one will be fast tracked based on demand for their skills? I hope this makes sense and I would appreciate any advice on the process.

  3. Lol let me know if you find a magic answer! Are you going to try and clarify with you agent next week? I had never considered this other visa so going to do a little research. We have 65 points atm, (well when his trades assessment is passed) Darren is hoping to get another 10 with his superior then we won’t go for any state nomination. We have the option to not get the extra 10 and go for the nomination. I’m just holding back on a nomination a little as I want to freedom to move if we get there and want to. I would rather settle earlier into the process and be sure we are in the right place for the kids and ourself, getting into a school community hopefully meeting friends. How to you pick a place you want to stay without actually being there and getting a feel first? It’s such a big decision and I’m sure we would settle wherever we chose but there is just this niggle in the back of my head.

  4. So do you still have to pick a state in which you chose to nominate you? And stay there? Or can you move if you wish as long as you are staying and working within the areas which are qualified for this visa? As in as long as you stay out of the major cities? My bugbear with going for a state nomination is not having the freedom to move if we want

  5. I would think this is the case too, it is just confusing the way it reads. We have had to go along the English test route for extra points. If you have enough without it I guess this would be okay? As far as the points go, you can always put in your EOI and if it doesn’t move within the first few months you could sit your English test and alter your points at they point?

I may be wrong but sure you would have to do a practical skills assessment, stage 1 of the skills is submitting the relevant paperwork like you have stated. Stage 2 is the practical and technical interview. I’ve sat the IELTS twice, both with unsuccessful results. Going to sit in another time and then try the Pearson’s. I’m a gas engineer predominantly but do still do plumbing both only in the commercial sector of the Industry. I’m a little nervous as it’s all domestic. I have been told there is nothing to worry about though. My skills is in Blackburn emoji33.png

Martynd, how did you get on with your skills assessment? My husband is going to Blackburn to do his in November, he doesn’t have an official date but his agent thinks it will be 3rd week. He is a gas/oil/lpg engineer and has worked 17 years in the trade. He does predominantly do the heating side of things but is a fully qualified plumber also and does plumbing jobs also. He is currently sitting on 65 points but is trying to get an extra 10 points with his superior English. It’s proving difficult at the moment. He seems to fall short on his speaking of all things every time. Scoring 88-90 on the other 3 sections 😡
