Date of the Citizenship Test: 09 July 2019
Did you sit your test on the day they wanted or did you move the test date up a bit from the original date?
Thank you

Was doing some Googling to try and find an answer to my question, think this thread has answered it so wanted to make a contribution:
- Date applied: late March 2019
- City/Council area: Clarence (Hobart)
- Online / Paper: Online
- Date received the acknowledgement email: 26 March 2019
- Date of the Citizenship Test: 09 July 2019
Approval: 28 July 2019?? (said last activity on the account was 25 July, so guessing that's probably the actual date)
- Date of ceremony: Waiting for letter
- Type of ceremony: Normal
Other info: American, 189 (Skilled Independent Visa), have lived in a few other countrieslong enough to require police checks (thankfully didn't have to redo for citizenship). Languished for a year on a joint Bridging visa with Immi demanding proof of my American partner and I's relationship despite having a Tasmanian Deed of Significant Relationship, which was supposedly all we needed.
I thought some of the info I got at my test/interview might be of interest to people here (apologies if it's been discussed on an earlier page) and thought I'd share:
I had brought a copy of my birth certificate (actually a printout of a scan of the official copy) which the guy said I needed an original official copy for. He was able to let me do the test and everything else, and said he'd put through a request for more information that day, and I'd have 28 days or so to get the proper copy to them. I did get the email requesting more documents that day, but he rang me the following day to apologise and say he'd followed it up and my copy was good enough for Immi (recent change in policy) and to not worry about it. YMMV I suppose.
I got to chatting with the Home Affairs guy at the appointment and he mentioned that as of recently they are now able to access any document you've ever submitted to Immi (as opposed to the old system where they could only look at the one application), which is intended to help them streamline and speed things up. He alluded to a few other back-end improvements on their end and that things are always changing, though he seemed optimistic it was generally for the better now. I didn't actually think to ask (assumed they wouldn't tell me), but he looked at his screen and said it seemed like my application was most of the way processed, so it shouldn't be a huge wait. Based on my previous experience with Immigration I figured it'd still be months.
As I said, I still expected the wait to be months, so imagine my surprise when I logged in to my Immi account today on a lark and saw my application had been approved! (I had assumed I would get an email like with visa approvals so hadn't checked it since the day after my appointment.) From what I've read here and a thread on Whirlpool it sounds like that's what you have to do though? So at the moment I'm waiting for a letter from my local council about next citizenship ceremony.
Incredibly exciting - in my mid 30s and have been on this path pretty much my whole adult life!
Congratulations and thank you for the insightful read.

Next week is tomorrow. Hope everyone gets some sort of movements in their respective time lines.

The PR Visa is for the period of 5 years. You need to apply for the citizenship to stay permanently in Australia.
PR is PR. Permanent it's just the travel component that expires after the initial 5 years and needs to be reapplied for if you wish to travel in and out of Australia.
If you don't need to travel out of Australia .
No need to renew RRV.
Like myself for example Travel rights expired but I don't need to travel so I don't have an RRV in place at the moment.

Thanks for the advice. I'll plan the holiday without worrying about it! Tanwi, lucky you that your citizenship application seems to be getting processed really quick! I am expecting mine to take at least 12 months or longer.
Sounds quick but doesn't feel like it.
Approval pending hitting 2 months soon on that wait.

Hello friends,
I have applied for a child visa (subclass 101) for my kid which is under process. But now i am planning to apply for tourist visa for my child. Can i do that? Can my child (who is 4 months old) travel to Australia on tourist visa when the child visa is under process?
*Me and my wife have the Australian PR.
Thanks in advance,
Pratap
I faced a somewhat similar situation to yours.
When I applied for PR my son was included in original application.
But somehow was not added when PR was granted I only found this out when I travelled back to home country with him (thinking we both PR) and upon check in to return (to Australia) he was not able to travel.
So yes, I applied for a tourist visa for him and once he arrived onshore his PR visa was granted.
So I assume one can do that, also I have read here people apply partner visa offshore and then apply for tourist to visit spouses etc whilst waiting for a decision.
I don't know if that helps in anyway.

Thank you for the response.
I have decided for this application to attempt a normal tourist visa and see what happens. Will come back with questions if that doesn't happen.
Cheers

I pulled my test date forward by two months and as it was not immediately approved, I was hoping that by the time it got to my originally scheduled test date that everything could be approved and I might be lucky and make the July ceremony, but it seems that is very unlikely. That's exactly what I'm thinking to. My actual test date this next month. But I pulled mine 3 months forwards.
So have my heart set on it being approved on the original test date .

How long is everyone waiting for approval after test? My husband sat his test Dec 18 and I had mine April 19, and since then we’ve heard nothing. Our council only hold quarterly ceremonies and we really are hoping to make the one in September. Not liking our chances now
I have only been waiting nearly 2 months now. And still waiting. ☺

Yes it does as it’s usually done at a Centrelink by human services and they send it to the case officers at home affairs. If you are in cities you will have your test at an immigration office which should be interviewed by an actual case officer. Depending on your checks you are most likely to get same day approval. Whereas anyone from regional areas getting interviewed by human services will not be same day approval as they are nothing to do with immigration. It could take months for case officers to even open back up your file again. Which sucks...
Wow that's just arrrgg! True with so many people applying who knows how many files one particular case officer handles a day.

Already lost my hope:
My timeline is perhaps the longest among all members:
- Applied in Sydney
- Applied: 28/10/2017
- Test passed: 30/04/2019 (100%)
- Waiting for the approval
21 months since. FOI, global compliant, no help at all
It will happen soon.
Many 2017 getting approvals recently.
Your time is near hang in there.

Yeah, I applied 4th May 2018 and had my test 8th May 2019 and still no approval. I’m actually getting pissed off seeing people elsewhere getting ceremonies after applying in 2019! It’s so unfair because we are regional...
Does being from a Regional areas means it takes a little bit longer then those in the big cities? Especially if you have all your papers, are documented and there shouldn't be anything hindering ones approval

Wait time for the PR is unpredictable. You have depend upon what is actually written on the official website. If everything falls in place then you can get the said visa timely.
He/She is asking about citizenship application not PR as per his/her post he/she has obtained, Permanent Resident hence asking about what he/she needs relating to citizenship matters☺

Bonjour all you good chaps and chapettes
Can anyone direct me where to find info on what is required for a citizenship test and application? I won't be needing this for at least a year (just had my PR approved 3 days ago) but just want to keep myself informed on what is required so I can be prepared when the time comes.
Cheers
The DOHA website has the information just type Australian citizenship application in Google and u should find the DOHA website with all the information you need to know.
Also test is very simple, maybe brush up on sample questions online, but regardless it's all common knowledge questions. So quiet simple.
Hope that helps your query.

Hi,
I got my approval today. It took less than a week. I've seen on other forums that many other people got their approval yesterday. Hopefully everyone won't be waiting too long now!
- Application 15.02.19
- Interview and test email: 19.06.19
- Test and Interview: 24.06.19 (rescheduled from 9.11.19)
- Approval (online): 4.05.19
I don't expect to get an invite for the ceremony for a little while now as I think my Council (Moreland City) is pretty busy. We'll see.
Cheers
Congratulations I'm glad to see 2019 applicants getting approved I applied 2 days before you. Sat test already, so seeing this gives hope

I wonder if having children on one's application could cause delays?
For instance in my case, my ex partner and I split up years ago. He has sent a letter giving his consent plus a copy of his passport bio data page. Which was sighted at interview and was said to be ok (as signature matched his letter). He's also a PR here.
My question is I'm wondering if they will contact him for further clarification. Kinda daunting as he frequently travels overseas for work and has entered a new relationship (his partner isn't to keen on entertaining his son and allowing communication etc...)
Anyways long story short my question is does anyone know if they contact the other parent after they have sighted the letters & passport bio data pages? -

Hi,
I applied for citizenship in March 2019 (I am currently a permanent resident) and wondering if I can travel outside of Australia for a month trip back to the UK at Christmas time (holiday to see family). If so, do I need to notify the immigration department or update my citizenship application in the portal?
Cheers,
David
It's fine, as long as your RRV is still valid should be all good.
I also applied Feb 2019. Went overseas In April for at least 3 weeks, returned and got a test invite so should be ok.
P. S in the original lodgement I did let them know I would be oversease in April.

Hello everyone,
Anyone here who sat the test in late May get an approval yet?
Just Curious

Hello citizenship people!
Back on the forum after a 12 months break. Conferral application is in today. So much easier than PR hey! Took me a few hours max.
What are the realistic wait times at the moment? Im aware of the published guidelines but what is the average we are seeing on the forum?Hello welcome back.
Wait times for this period I wouldn't know on a realistic scale but it looks like applications get test dates pretty quick.
From my own experience as well as what I have read on other forums.
Som have already completed the process or are half way there. Those who lodged in this year 2019 (myself included) is what I am referring too.
Probably best to think in terms of what DOHA posts up as estimated times, as not to gets to discouraged

Oh yes true visa on arrival put in passports could be an issue when leaving a country cause then they can't see the visa in Australian passport as you entered with home country passport. Most probably I might just use Australian, save on the complexity

Yes, you can use both passports on the one journey.
Assuming you have both Australian and British passports and you are travelling from Australia to the UK:
1. When you check in for your flight FROM Australia show your British passport.
2. When you exit Australia through Immigration you show your Australian passport.
3. When you arrive in the UK you show your British passport.
4. When you check in for your flight FROM the UK show your Australian passport.
5. When you arrive in Australia show your Australian passport.
Thank you that pretty much clarifies my ask. Cheers everyone. Thank you.
