Not quite the same, but we moved from Oman to Sydney for similar reasons (career stagnating). We do miss champagne brunches, embassy parties and having house staff. But, you have to do what’s right for whatever stage of life and nothing has to be forever.

    Thanks CaptainR !

Ive been to Oman several times so can somewhat relate 🙂

How was the job hunting experience in Sydney?

  2. Hello everyone!

I thought of starting a discussion with people who migrated from Dubai to Adelaide in the past few years! People who have already applied for their skilled visas and are waiting to migrate are also welcome to join 🙂

The idea is to connect with folks on topics like:

    1) How do you find Adelaide vs Dubai?

    2) Looking back did the move work out for you?

    3) What are the things about Dubai you still miss dearly?

    4) How did you manage landing your first job?

    5) Any advice for people who will be migrating soon?

I applied for my SA 489 visa along with my wife and baby in Jan 2019 and I’m currently waiting for my grant.

Part of us is excited but another part of us is also anxious! Our reason for the move is to hopefully provide a better environment for our baby growing up and of course get PR at some point.

We do live comfortably in Dubai but it is starting to get expensive (especially raising a child) and our careers are stagnating. This is what prompted us to consider migration 🙂

Your contributions will be invaluable to us and I thank you all in advance!!

    Cheers!

To begin with, Subclass 491 is announced to be introduced from 16th November 2019. As of current, it does not exist. Few months down the road, any changes can still happen. We are not the government. We won’t know what they have in mind for that new visa. Hence, everything that is discussed or talked about is just pure speculation. So, in my opinion, there is no point of discussing the requirement imposed for this new visa.

Secondly, this forum thread as mentioned in the subject and also from @JetBlast, it is for “High Points for 489/190 - South Australia.” Hence, to prevent confusion for people who have came to this thread for this specific topic, I would suggest it’s best to create a separate thread for the question posted regarding 491 visas if this was something concerning. This will also not just prevent confusion but attract like-minded people who are interested in 491 visas as well. Which is why there is segregation of topics in the forum to allow like-minded people to easily search for the topic that they are looking for.

Lastly, most of the people here are usually seeking for a company or some comfort/support from the same group of people with the same objective/interest while we all wait for that nerve-wracking result. So, information that are relayed here might not be accurate as we are not professional. It would be best that you seek for a professional (such as a migration agent) that can really help you in your case. If applicants like us, who are not immigration officers or migration agents, can actually provide professional advices, then there will be no reason why the professionals are doing this for a living.

So please be considerate, help yourselves and others too. And also, thank you for everyone who had spared your precious time reading through my lengthy thread. 😊

Thanks @Joesline for your detailed post!

I’m sure none of us are here to cause unnecessary confusion 🙂

We are human and mistakes do happen so we can definitely be more forgiving and supportive of each other during this long journey (especially towards new people who’ve joined the forum recently).

Since this nerve wracking process does consume a lot of our time and mental bandwidth, at times one can become anxious and seek for help spontaneously. So apologies if I or anyone here went out of context  🙂  Absolutely no wrong intentions meant.

    Peace ✌🏼

Yeah ..its true..489 will be replaced by a new visa subclass 491..but 489's applied till october 2019 will fall in the old category only..

Yes just read it. Applicants will need to stay in regional areas for atleast 3 years(for applications lodged in Nov 2019 and after).

Also the soonest one can file for 887 will be Dec 2022.

    Hi people!

Is anyone aware of the new conditions that will be enforced from Nov 2019? Apparently, people will need to stay in regional areas for longer than 2 years before they can apply for 887 (PR).

But I believe this should only be applicable for 489 visa applications lodged after Nov?  Also how true is this news? (Read it in Expat Forum).

Compared to the UK a lot of jobs in Adelaide don't quote the salary in their adverts.  Phone screening is very popular, often aimed at reducing the potential interview pool for the next stage.  One of the questions you will often get asked is "what is your salary expectation?", how you answer this question can make the difference between moving to the next stage or not.  When I work with my clients, I look at their skill set, potential employers in Adelaide that will suit their personality (cultural fit is a big deal here), how to market their resume/CV and also discuss their salary expectations and whether they are realistic for the roles they are applying for.

Thanks @Jessica Berry that was insightful!

Are you a recruitment consultant in Adelaide?

Also can you elaborate more on the “cultural fit” part? What is seen as the ideal qualities?

  7. Hi guys,

Can anyone help to share the typical salaries offered to ICT project managers and coordinators freshly arriving in Adelaide? I understand it will be different from case to case but a realistic ballpark figure or range would help.

Ive got over 11 years exp myself but I’m prepared to start at a lower position if that increases the probability of landing a job.

@JetBlast thanks for starting this thread!

    Cheers!

    Hi Jon..

U must be saying this just because of  489 updates...

This 489 tracker has just 1000 cases uploaded in it...while 189 has 9000 approx...

There are so many people on 489 which have not updated their cases ...may be those people are getting grants ...even on 489 people are getting grants ...

So ...the bottom line is... may be april and may is for november and december visa applications...

I m just writing this to share some positivity...guys...

We all are getting direct grants if every thing is uploaded upfront...

May god grant my wish for everyone....

    Yay thanks!

Agreed that alone cannot be relied on. I myself added my case couple of days ago and found only 5 applications in the past year sharing my job code, visa type.

    Doubt that’s all the cases...

So hope the best for everyone soon!

  9. Hello People!

Hope everyone is doing great 🙂 Thought I'd jump in and share my application status with you all and be part of the madness 😛

I lodged my visa application for SA 489 on Jan 28th '19.
    -Offshore applicant (+wife and baby)
-80 points total including state nom
    -135112 ICT Project Manager

I see they closed the "High Points" category on Mar 6th. Does this affect my application in any way?

    Cheers!
