So we have made it to Adelaide with no issues at the airport, and it is actually sunny here. The police man at the airport who sorted us out was actually from Rochdale not far from us in the UK.

Seen these little beauties at the apartment, a nice upgrade from magpies haha

Ok thank you.  I cant find any information for WA and flying into Perth or which hotel we will be directed too,  we need to find out the cost of all this so we can adjust our budgeting etc......

I don't think the cost has been announced in WA yet.

Thank you for the reply Ali.  I wonder if quarantine can be paid for in different ways to help people who don't have the money up front?  Does anyone have any information on this please? Also, how do we find out how much it will be? Surely we can find out?

    Thank you xx

It' s going to depend on the State I believe. This info is about NSW:

If you've got another passport then you're home and hosed.  If you've only got one and it's out of date and you're in a foreign country then that's a bit more urgent I would have thought

Agreed, but I think you can still apply for an emergency passport if necessary.

For any Australian Citizens or PR holders thinking of trying to leave using the “Exceptional Circumstances” clause it may be worth reading the judgement Baker v Commissioner of the Australian Border Force https://www.judgments.fedcourt.gov.au/judgments/Judgments/fca/single/2020/2020fca0836

‘I dread to think what the legal costs were for this case.

If it was so important for the parents to be there their son could surely have postponed the wedding.

There are too many people who think that their wants are more important than the safety of others.

I am not terribly homesick and I am not clinically depressed.  I have been there and this is so not the same. The feeling is more akin to being convicted of a crime I didn't commit and being incarcerated indefinitely.

What frustrates me about the Australian government's approach to the international lockdown is the fact that they are not giving any guidance whatsoever on when international travel may restart.  Just smug/glib comments about "you won't be going abroad on holiday this year" as though an overseas holiday is the only possible reason why a person in Australia might want to leave the country.

Living in Brisbane, we can't even escape Qld and go to northern NSW for a road trip holiday as we had originally planned to do during these coming winter school holidays (with my parents) or go to any other State for that matter. And being told that I should be road-tripping in a State that I am already very bored with adds injury to insult.

The plan is for my parents to try to come same time next year so I will try to look forward to that.

Thanks for all your comments as it does help.

Every Australian resident is in the same boat, thousands of us have had to cancel our holidays but the boarder closures were made for a reason and they've achieved the desired result. I have family in the UK and USA who have much more rigorous isolation measures enforced so right now we all just have to suck it up and be grateful we haven't suffered the enormous death rates of other countries.

Just checked this morning and the  dollar is dropping further, AUS $1.82 to the GBP!!

Really not sure if to wait to sell up here in the UK this year?  Don't want to be in a position where we have sold and the dollar is even lower, will have a big impact on what we can buy in Oz.

Everything is so uncertain at the moment!

Actually the dollar is rising against other currencies

    Hi,

we are literally in exactly the same situation, I’m dual citizen, husband got his 309/100 in Feb and we are moving to Perth. We moved out of our house last week and are staying with family. Keen to know when we can get flights to Perth. Currently the airport is shut. Hoping Qantas might put some more reparation flights on soon....let me know if you find out  any more info As I seem to be spending hours with not much result!

The airport is definitely not closed, Qatar are still flying in. 14 days quarantine is required on arrival.

Who is leaving th move to Australia till next year because of the virus etc.....?

We keep talking through things but don't know what to do for the best?  If we stay in UK things could get much worse with the virus,  housing market etc etc....also the dollar is dropping, so who knows what it will be when we move??? We have no control over it at any time!

If we put house on the market and it sells this year, we may have to quarantine for 2 weeks in Perth on our arrival, look for work etc....what if the virus starts to spread more in WA????

Everything is just "if" at the moment!!

Worst time ever to be sorting our move to Oz.

In my opinion it's very unlikely that we'll have a sudden increase in WA, we had had no new cases for 8 days until today  and there are only 6 active cases in the State.

With the State border still closed there's little chance of a new outbreak.

I have lived in both. We started in Sydney and then spent 8 years in Perth. I would say if you like city life, the Sydney. Particularly coming from London.

Perth has its pluses, but it is very small. The city itself can be walked from end to the other in 15 minutes. Beyond that it is just suburbia with identi kit shopping centres.

The newer areas are like that, yes but the older suburbs and hills areas are very different. I get tired of reading about Perth's boring suburbs but if people make the effort to look for something different it's out there.

Just browsing at interesting places to live round the country, Huon Valley has fabulous scenery and property looks a reasonable price for what you get (as far as I can tell from the internet) can anyone tell me what's it like living there ? Is it quiet, any nearby shops, other facilities etc. I know we all like different things but interested in any experiences from anyone who has lived there. Thank you.

It's a beautiful area, we're planning to retire there. We should have been flying there in 2 weeks time but of course we had to cancel 😧

We like the fact it's not too far from Hobart while having some lovely smaller towns.

Thankyou Drumbeat yes SA so ive just been looking at flinders Uni.

My wife has no nursing quals at present so is starting from scratch.

If she was to do a diploma course in the UK now, would that transfer to Aus ok and allow her to start the Uni course next year?

I don't know how they assess overseas qualifications these days, I would ask Flinders Uni for guidance. It would be really frustrating if your wife studied for something that wasn't recognised 🙁

That's brilliant thanks a lot for the info everyone.

We have a PR visa but it's just a case of getting there now with everything going on.

Just looking at new options for my wife now that both of our girls will be at school, and she wants to start doing a job that is more "worthwhile" as she says.

Does she have Nursing qualifications already? Am I right in thinking you're going to SA,  I'll send you a link to the Uni sites if you let me know what State

Don’t worry Naval I lived in the area and know three excellent agents. Barry Plant,  Eview and Harcourts I’ve dealt with the directors personally.

When you get back from “India” I can put you in touch.

    I had a feeling this was a troll 😬

Sad to see that this post has got to be almost a war of words! Surely it doesn’t have to be this way. If we’re looking at this part of the forum we’ve all got something in common - let’s be nice to one another!

You're right, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and find some joy wherever you are living.

Paul, ......drumbeat was questioning me somewhat on my knowledge of  autoimmune disorders and I replied, having studied medicine for a number of years, I helped inform drumbeat on a possible causative link between stress and an autoimmune disorder, using credible sources which I can reference for you if you are really bothered...... as i am not ....anyway you are probably to busy going for your swim or golf or surfing or playing basket ball or hand gliding or skydiving or scuba diving or flying a commercial aircraft or  hunting for big foot to read this and be on poms in oz 😎😂

I hate to disillusion you but you didn't inform me of anything. I was a Nurse for 25 years in addition to doing my own research into autoimmune diseases.

Hi Drumbeat...................Hence the reason I put CAN be caused by stress and not IS caused by,  you are right in that there are a number of different triggers, as you are probably aware it is an autoimmune type 2 reaction, known as immunity to self, the causes can be genetic in nature, or environmental,  but also faulty point mutations on chromosomal DNA, however continual stress has been identified as a causative factor in the release of and secretion of inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin 1, and 6 and tumour necrosis factor (TNF), the release of cortisol from the adrenal medulla and the control of which, via the Hypo thalamus, is thought to mediate this response to inflammation, however this still leads to an increase in synovial fluid production from synovitis of the synovial membrane in the small joints this is  particularly debilitating. ............at no point am I blaming Australia for this, I am saying that in my opinion, stress has caused this ...😀...please feel free to discuss further with your new best buddy bulya 😂

No, the weather is glorious and the birds are singing - I'm heading out to enjoy the beautiful Perth hills 🌼
