  1. We went for a part day a few years ago as my husband can't walk for prolonged periods. The weather was absolutely atrocious, heavy rain and freezing cold - I had 4 layers of clothes on to keep warm and dry! We enjoyed it as best as we could but were a bit surprised at the lack of places just to sit and have a rest without going into cafes.

We stayed out at Balham and travelled in.

In my previous jobs I did a lot of flying and have flown from the UK to Oz for as little as 24 hours in Oz and regularly 5-6 days, also have done the same going the other way once I moved here. Often jumped straight into work on arrival at both ends. It’s certainly do-able with the right mindset, but expensive!

The worst was flying from Dubai to Melbourne arriving at 0800 for a meeting and being on the afternoon flight back to Dubai.

One of the exact reasons I’m taking this job! No more global remit.

I’ve been know to have meetings in Peru on a Monday, Zambia Wednesday and England Friday then back to Southern Africa the next Monday.

    Economy class.

Australia’s a long flight, but I’m very used to it!

You're both obviously a lot younger than me :)  (and I fly business class these days!)

    Cheers. I’ll do some research.

My main office would be Maddington, with quite a bit in CBD and flying away a lot (east coast meetings).

Vic Park was a ‘pin in a map’ job.

Yes, I’ll be renting out my UK house (no profit from renting due to awe full mortgage, but I like the security). I’ll be in a 4 year visa, but the aim to to stay to become a citizen.

I’m very tempted to head over for a week when I start my gardening leave.

    C’mon fast turn around visa.

Oh God, don't consider coming for less that 2 - 3 weeks, it'll take 2 days to start feeling human again after the flight......

  4. That does sound quite reasonable, my dentist charges $1600 for a crown. I've been gradually having my horrible NHS amalgam fillings replaced and some have required crowns as there is so little tooth left - only 3 left to do :(. It's taken a lot of courage to get this far.....

For me, this is gorgeous though. Just a shame I am missing it as stuck at work in Whitley Bay

Nothing wrong with Whitley Bay :) I spent many a happy afternoon on the beach there when we were kids. My oldest friend still lives there.

Assurance of support period is too long that is 10 years. It is a great responsibility on person providing assurance of support, in most of the cases I have seen the visa holder pay themselves but it will be on the name of the person providing AOS. Let us say of visa holder is not capable of earning and he can’t meet his day to day expenditure than the responsibilities of providing boarding and lodging is of the person providing AOS. In case the person who provided AOS become jobless and don’t have any money to support them. They can request the Centrelink after seeing their circumstances they may grant them some money but it it will be recovered from the person providing AOS when ever he start earning. Centrelink will not provide till the time 10 years period is completed even if you become the citizenship. This is a very tough condition. In normal circumstances if you come on parent visa after two years you start getting the benefits of Centrelink probably if you are without a job.
My understanding is that no one should give AOS unless or otherwise he has a lot of money to support them for 10 years.
Amber has explained very well. I suffered as I could not get the properly understanding about Visa 143. Before applying

This is why it is an Assurance of Support, so the burden does not fall on the Australian Government!

Not going to make anything or anywhere safer. Its just yet another renaming and realigning of departments. Australia does this regularly as it keeps people in a job redoing all the paperwork etc and makes people think the government is doing something worthwhile. Queensland recently did a similar thing, renamed about a dozen departments for the fourth time in as many years

Yes, same in WA. It's supposedly done as a cost cutting exercise (less high level positions) but nobody in their right mind believes it!

  8. Hi Cheryl,

I found this thread interesting as I have had mild psoriatic arthritis for a couple of years and live in Perth. I am finding my joints are much stiffer in the Perth heat but spent a few weeks in Europe in their summer and was much better. Whether the improvement was also related to being on holiday, no stresses etc I'm not sure.

I suspect there's no 'one size fit's all' with relation to weather and arthritis and we're actually considering moving to Tasmania when we retire although will probably plan to spend the winter somewhere slightly warmer.

TV adds in UK are far superior I still recall some classics from Hovis and Tetleys (I think) with the monkey tea party. Australian advertising is like addressing children in immaturity. I wonder if this is reflective of something deeper.......?

The chimps were in PG Tips ads, they were funny at the time but I'd hate to see them made now.

  10. I would take the bottle from your vet into the chemist and ask the pharmacist's advice. You need to be sure you're buying the same mg/ml, that would be the only difference.
