  1. Does anyone know when this decision will be made in parliament? Is there a date? We called immigration today who are in limbo. We need to go home for family reasons but could hold off till May (when we can apply for citizenship under old rules) From what I understand it seems more than likely the changes will take place. 2. Hey Guys, moving from Hobart to Perth and need some storage in Perth for around 6 months (we are planning a bit of travel before we settle again) does anyone have contact details for a cheap storage place? $11 a week sounds ok, we wont have a great deal.
  3. Thanks man that helps, still think its worth a call to immigration given the changing goal posts. Enjoy your evening!
  4. We have been affected by the proposed changes as above. We got PR in April and plan to get citizenship however we need to leave Australia for about 6 months. Does anyone know the maximum time we can leave Australia on PR and still be eligible for citizenship in 4 years? The reason we need to return to UK is to tie up loose ends and sort some family matters with parents etc. Any guidance would be helpful and we do plan on calling Immigration this week so will post any updates here. Thanks
  5. Thanks a million Collie, really appreciate that info. We were a bit concerned about moving to Perth given the economic climate but I think the work we do - physiotherapy and employment services should be ok. Having moved from Melbourne to Hobart we are used to things costing a bit more and paying island prices but we can still get out to Bruny Island for $30 so you are getting shafted on Rotnest. i hear good things about Freo and could work well for us as Hobart has done. Thanks again
  6. Hey! Hope everyones enjoyed a day off for the Queens Birthday. Hoping to get some advice or suggestions. We are a couple (34 + 28) currently living in Hobart Tasmania and before this in Melbourne. We have really enjoyed our time in Hobart and could quite easy settle here but we have decided its just too far from our family and friends in the UK and Ireland and we are considering a move to Perth WA as we would like to experience living somewhere hot and we feel it will be much easier to get back to UK and to holiday in Asia. We are planning on packing up towards the end of the year and taking a 10,000km road trip to Perth. Is it easy is it to make new friends in Perth and surrounds as a young couple? we have been lucky in Melbourne and Hobart but the fear of starting again is worrying. We have come to really enjoy the beach since moving to Australia and enjoy an outdoor lifestyle camping and exploring would like to start kitesurfing and kayaking. We enjoy an occasional meal and drinks out but don’t really need anything too hectic. We like the idea of being able to get on a train and get to Perth CBD within 30-40 mins. Any advice, ideas or suggestions on where we could live would be ace, we would be looking to rent initially but then buy our first home after a year hopefully in the $350,00-400,000 bracket. Thanks, Peter
  7. Hey Folks, first post newbie here I don't know how I've managed without you. We were granted PR on 8th May 2017 after a 5 month application process and were planning to make citizenship application after 12 months, does anyone know if this is still possible or do we now have to wait four years? Thanks Peter
