I also remember as part of the skills assessment criteria that I needed so many years post NVQ experience to be applicable for the test. But definitely call the down under centre tomorrow for accurate information as every case is different

The visa costs are one of the tiny amounts.

    Add:

shipping, flights, temporary accomodation, buying a car, buying things like mobiles and the million other things you need on arrival, add short term accomodation, add first months rent and bond needed to secure a rental, add paying all your household bills, rent, food, running a car and everything else you need to live on while you look for a job - on the forum, we recomend you budget for this for a bare minimum of 3 months but preferably six months. You easy get to 30k. Though for electricians, you need to budget you will need to pay for courses - can be several grand and spend a year gaining a license while working, and being paid as a trade assistant.

Ah fair enough, I thought you meant just the visa process. I was worried for a second haha. I already have everything else setup from living out there the last few years

Thanks, I don't suppose you have details for them do you?
My husband has possibly come into the opportunity of being able to do his NVQ so hopefully that will still go ahead

I would recommend giving them a call on 020 3376 1555. Theyre brilliant at the down under centre and very knowledgeable about everything. I dealt with Nikki Chilvers, she was brilliant. The future skills paperwork building up to the skills assessment is the worst part of everything

Your husbands qualifications and experience will complicate the skills assessment and as a result, I think you will need a registered migration agent. There is a big difference between a migration lawyer and a registered agent and there are a number of excellent ones that post on here.

Fees will vary by how complex your case is and how much you want then to do, but they should be able to tell you up front.

Yes, you should clear debt, some companies will allow you to come to an arrangement, but do remember that nearly half of people come back to the UK and any debt left behind would just get worse in absence and grow. Do also be aware this isn't a cheap process. All up, it is about £30,000 and you should not sell until you have a visa in hand, though a lot of that isn't needed until then.

Hi verystormy, I'm currently in this process for 189 as electrician and just curious were your getting the £30,000 figure from? I havnt spent even a third that amount and I'm almost done. Any info would be great

Got a very similar situation with ya. R81, S90, L78, W80. And that was my first attempt. Got very similar score in my second and third. Finally gave up and used partner skill for additional 5pts.

Pretty sure you'll have your invite in the first or second round in July. Since not many submitted above 70pts.

My backup plan was partner visa if my 189 fell through for any reason, but my fiance gave up waiting as its been 6 months since i left aus. Devastated

Hi @woody2709 I used e2 language too, although never paid for the full version. I also scoured YouTube for the various sections of the test and tried LOADS of practice tests! Do you have a sense for which part of the writing might be tripping you up? Maybe just concentrate on that as you seem to have the rest of it nailed! Good luck for another attempt, I'm sure you can do it.

I get 90 every time in the reading and speaking, but not 100% which question types are letting me down for the others. Yeah youtube is brilliant, learnt most from on there. Ill keep this chat updated with my progress throughout my visa. Thanks for the support

Im borderline getting my superior each time. Very frustrating. Reading 90, Speaking 90, Listening 79, Writing 78, Overall 86. Very expensive and time consuming. Good luck with your application

Where did your husband get his revision material from for the PTE. Im using e2 language but there is obviously something im still doing wrong in the exam.

My hubbie tried IELTS TWCE and got all 9s and one 7! So he had enough and went for PTE last week! Such a faff and time consuming these exams! I hope you get your results you want ASAP x

  9. Pte is tough in some aspects. I've sat IELTS and PTE twice. Still needing my 79+. The first attempt at PTE I got Speaking 90, Reading 90, Listening 77, Writing 69. The second time I got speaking 90, reading 90, writing 79, listening 78. Gutted, to say the least! Sitting again this week. But I do prefer PTE over IELTS in every way. I'm a native English speaker from the UK and it's still a tough exam as it's not all about how good your English is. Core skills like memory are also important.

  10. Yeah passed my exam according to the examiner in London, Was surprisingly easy compared to what i expected. AM2 is 5x harder. Yeah Nikki was my agent and she was great! Explained that i could do my online theory exams here which is great as i have not long returned from australia and currently unemployed while i sort all this visa stuff out and get back out there to my fiance

  11. Hi everyone, qualified sparky currently working through the process towards either 189, 190, 489 or spouse visa for Northern Territory. Got my skills assessment in the morning at the down under centre in London and IELTS on the weekend. I've been in Australia the last 2 years WHV and for the best part of 1 1/2 of them i was working for electrical companies in the NT doing the majority of the work and alongside A grade sparks. Question is because i wasn't qualified there, can i use it towards skillselect points as inside australia experience? Thanks
