    Hi Elliot,

I don't think it matters if you are overseas when your PR was granted. the calculator is just a guide, try to adjust the 2 days in advance to cover for your travel overseas (make it 8/05/2017).

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks mate. will try.

  2. Hi

I got a question regarding citizenship residence calculator.

My PR was granted on 19th May 2017 while I was overseas for business. I then returned to Australia on 21 May 2017.

When I tried to enter each trip overseas in the last four years, the calculator says PR date cannot occur during trip therefore I could not enter this trip as it is in the calculator.

(should be 10/05/2017-21/05/2017 however the calculator only allowed me to enter as 10/05/2017-19/05/2017 due to abovementioned reason)

Does anyone know if this will affect me eligibility (Assume I meet the residential requirement) to apply for the citizenship ? Is there any restriction travelling on PR granted day ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers

    Elliot

If this amendment bill pass....commencement from 1 July 2018...so everyone safe coz nothing deal with 20th April.

(so from 1july 2018, waiting period total 4years with permanent residency)

but need to pass ? tonight

I will be eligible to apply in May 2018 under the current rules - does this mean I will still be able to apply in next May if the amended one passed ?

I don't see much wrong with it either and most of my work mates, even the ones who came over on a 457 or equivalent, think one year on PR is ridiculously low.

    Just to clarify -

It was 3 years on TR + last year as PR = 4 years

Now Four years on PR (if someone had been in this country on student visa for 10 years and finally got their PR this year, they still have to wait for another 4 years.)

Different people find different inconvenience the new law brings to them. Could be subjective when it comes to say which one makes more sense than the others.

For instance, I personally think it's fair to ask people to have good English (if they have decided to stay in this country for good) regardless of their original cultural background while some might find it too harsh.

However, I personally think four years PR residential requirement ridiculous as it somehow makes me feel efforts spent on integrating with this society in the past few years not being recognised.

Overall, if all elements of this citizenship overhaul make sense it wouldn't have been derailed...

But we can't do much as it's to be decided by the upper house.

    Let's wait and see.

If you came over PR to start with you had to have 4 years residency before citizenship.  If you came on a temp visa like a 457 you still had to do 4 years but only the last one had to be PR.  Now everyone has to have 4 years PR regarless of what visa.  I dont see anything wrong with that.

it means time spent on TR doesn't count though.

I would only have to wait for another few months to be eligible to apply for the citizenship now may have to wait for another few months + three years

    That is the difference.

  6. Guys, I am glad to share my great news with you all.

I am currently overseas but my boss called me to inform me that my PR has just been granted.

My occupation was removed last month so I was very nervous.

Thank you all in this Forum for sharing information and providing mental support.

I am flying back to Australia tonight.

Wish you all get your PR soon!

    Cheers

    Hi everyone and @Izzielizzie @badaich87 @syd2016 @APR15 @Khushi02aug @Elliotkan

Finally it's my turn to post something positive.

I got both my nomination and visa approval today.

Applied both nomination and visa on 14th April 2016 through agent

Occupation is Market Research Analyst - (This is now a removed occupation as per new rules. Luckily i had applied last year)

Nomination got approved first, after which i was asked for employer referral letter (which we submit during skill assessment).

I submitted that immediately and got visa approval within another hour or so.

Few suggestions to people waiting -

My agent did NOT submit form 80. So pretty much what they request depends on your case. I did pester my agent to submit it after reading threads online. However ensure you submit what they need, don't panic on reading other peoples' cases like I did please.

I know the wait is very very stressful, however make sure you do not let it get onto you like it did to me. Staying calm is hard, but try.

If you have an agent try following up through the agent because a couple of times the immix people who received my calls have given me different answers to the same questions and also asked me to contact via agent, not directly.

Thank you very much! This forum has been my only support after my family back in my home country.

I will pray for all of you waiting. Cheers!

So happy for you ! Currently overseas and was worried about my visa. Your good news made my day ! All the best to you mate. Thank you for sharing such a great news !

    Hello guys,

I have a question related to 186 and removed occupation:

Nomination and visa applied in February 2017. (Direct Entry)

My occupation (Electronics Engineer) is on MLTSSL list and as far as I understand is no longer eligible to apply for 186. It has a caveat attached that says it`s eligible for 189/485/489 application. I saw few posts on various forums saying that changes to 186 will not affect past applications (lodged prior to 19th of April) but I can`t find any official info about it. My MA says that Legislation and Policy of the 19th April changes haven`t been released yet so we can`t be sure.

I was just wondering if you have a reliable source of this information. Appreciate any help.

    Cheers.

Does any one know how the application for DE will be treated for the applicant's whose skill is no more in the list post 19-apr notification but the applicantion was lodged prior to 19 Apr? Skills such as policy and planning manager, conveyancer, marketing research analyst are removed from the list.

I understand from official notification that application lodged for the removed skills under DE before 19th Apr will not be impacted but curious to know if someone has any other input on this aspect?

I am also keen to know. Guess more delay...

FINALLY - best news ever oh my god. After nearly a decade we're permanent residents!!! We got the grant early today. It hasn't fully sunk in yet. I haven't cried in relief yet!

Thank you to everyone for the support and for sharing your experiences - it has made a big difference knowing we're not alone. I'm updating my details on the spreadsheet now, along with my signature here.

Good luck to everyone - hang in there I know how shockingly rough the wait is - I hope you get your good news sooner rather than later! Shout out to my fellow comrades waiting for a year and longer @Zee14042016 @badaich89 @Raj1985 @Apr 2016 and to other Marketing Specialists @Jess6 - praying for you guys!!

Congrats ! All the best to your new life !

I haven't seen any new DE file opened since last 2 weeks mate.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think MD got PR granted on 22/4/17 (August sheet. DE application) And SABAKI got nomination approved on 21/4/17 (June sheet. DE application)

    Let's try to stay positive.

I actually called my MA today for peace of mind because Marketing Specialist is on the STSOL. She was super reassuring and told me that my application (186 DE) would not be impacted by the changes. Still after 10 months in the wait, it's hard not to be concerned by the current changes.

Anyways, coming from the tech industry, I find that the following article explains pretty well the consequences the recent changes might have on the ability for Australia to innovate in that sector: http://www.news.com.au/technology/innovation/the-100000-job-no-australian-is-qualified-to-do/news-story/400cbc76d5b8fdb0e427481b0435e7d8

The most disappointing part for me is that Malcolm Turnbull knows better than anyone else how valuable the tech industry (check OzEmail) can be.

He is a politician who cares more about his seat and party than our futures. They are definitely aware of the labour market situation here but they have to make their voters happy so they can stay in power. Anyway thanks for sharing information, will give my MA a call today. She was not in yesterday... have a good night & fingers crossed for all of us.

Guys Quite bad new from my end : since the new 457 abolish and 186 has taken place it has affected lots of visa application hence my nomination has been refused due to new rules. My MA has advised before they cancel the 186 visa application i need to lodge a new nomination with new guidelines.

not sure what t do ? i am currently on 457 but then i dont work for my previous employer anymore so they might cancel 457 too.

Any advice on canadian express entry before i pack up, again if any one need car, furniture and all more than welcome to contact me if i have to pack up..

    Good luck guys :(

Feel sad for you and getting worried for myself. Would you mind giving us more information ? I don't quite understand as they say  186 DE won't get affected and I thought you are 186DE ? In which case how could this affect your nomination ? Your occupation is still on the list isn't it ?

    Thanks, Praveen

Processing centre was NSW PESE and it was necessary to do skills assessment as had been on 457 for less than two years.  We are on-shore if that helps.

We know you have been waiting since 12 August and hope your time comes very soon.

    All the best.

    Congratulations!

Would you mind telling us if your occupation "technician" refers to below

"Technicians and Trades Workers NEC" 399999

I ask this question because the above position in on the removed occupation list.

If yours was the same, your good news would make people like me a little more confident.

    Thanking you in advance.

Definitely worth asking your MA, but looks to me like you should be ok. On the Removed Occupations, it says that lodged 186 DE applications (not sure about Transition...) are good under the old rules:

On 19 April 2017, 200 occupations were removed entirely from the STSOL. See:List of the removed occupations

These changes will only apply to new applications lodged on, or after, 19 April 2017 for:

See here, under "Removed Occupations": http://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Work/Work/Skills-assessment-and-assessing-authorities/skilled-occupations-lists

Thanks for sharing and yes I have just found it. Thanks God that I am 186DE...

You may want to reach out to your MA.

    Thanks God I found below...

    Removed occupations

On 19 April 2017, 200 occupations were removed entirely from the STSOL.

    See:List of the removed occupations

See: Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)

These changes will only apply to new applications lodged on, or after, 19 April 2017 for:

However, for the subclass 457 programme for any of these removed occupations on, or after, 19 April 2017:
