Ooh you get access to Medicare! I thought you could only apply for it after the 820, but perhaps things are different for UK/Commonwealth citizens.

Congrats on those milestones anyway! You're making really good progress in settling in :)

I'm leaving on Sept 8th... sooo close now!

Its reciprocal medicare, basically an agreement between uk and Oz, still get a card but not full cover until I apply for the partner visa

Congrats on you settlers! Glad to hear containers arrive at destination with no problem save quarantine delays :)

I've booked my flight, we found a place. Three weeks to go! Still so much to do here, and much to come, and am now experiencing everything with a "this is the last time I see that person/place" thought at the back of my head, but I'm so excited!

Its a good feeling when you have the flight booked!! When do you arrive in Oz?

We've got our new joint bank account set up, applied for my Vic licence and Medicare card too.

  3. Im now in oz on a Prospective Marriage Visa and after Medicare but apparently there is a loop hole that on a PMV you cant apply for Medicare until you have submitted the Partner visa which would be after we are married! Would I still be covered some what on the reciprocal agreement that Britain and Australia have with medical cover for citizens.

  5. Just thought Id drop by since its been a while from I was on here. We arrived in Oz yesterday morning after spending about 3 weeks touring through the south east of the Republic of Ireland and about 2 weeks in Northern Ireland with my family before flying out of Dublin on Wednesday night, spend a day in Dubai ( Loved it and would recommend) and arrived here on Saturday morning! Next step is to change over my license, sort out the bank accounts in uk and oz and to start looking at rentals! Start back to the shop I used to work in when I was last in Oz!

Do you mind if I pick your brain on that? I know you need to declare what's in the boxes,  but how much detail do they need? I was thinking they might want to check clothes made of wool (for moths) etc... do they ask you to list the materials of all items per box?

Good reminder in the insurance, need to look into that as well... Then give notice to HMRC etc... Wrapping up your life in one country is one long job!

Theres forms to fill out and it details whats needed, for example.. Box 1 Clothes ... Box 2 Cutlery etc etc they dont need to know the pattern of your best shirt lol I've had no mention of material items are made off but the Move Cube folk have paper work with guide lines on each section of the customs forms. They do say put shoes etc at the front of the box.

Yeah it totally is, never expected so.. I just imagined packing a suit case and going

Thank you for those great tips! I was going for the cube assuming it was cheaper but I am going to call a removal company and get a quote just in case. I like that they pack and load it for you - I'm doing the move on my own so that would save me some hassle (and countless muscle sprains! God books are HEAVY and this is most of my cargo... I'm a book hoarder...)

Sorry for derailing the topic, I'll post in the removal sections if I have more questions :)

You can get help with packing and unpacking the Movecube. Its on the quotation on their website if you choose it. Where are you moving from ?

Some news outlets have got it wrong. I saw and heard the guy (live) who's comments have led to misrepresentation on the fridge question as all all he said was that concerns were raised a few weeks earlier as someone on his floor (the 4th) had a small fire which had resulted from a power surge to the building. It wasn't even the same high rise that he was talking about but the adjacent one. If there are other sources that can confirm that a faulty fridge, on the 4th floor, caused the current disaster, then it's a highly improbable coincidence (same floor, similar appliance)

This the same dude that was interviewed by bbc at about 8am (uk time ) ? Had his young step daughter and gf ?

Another issue that will be relevant is how quickly the brigade attended and whether cuts in stations and manpower have had an effect on their capability.

First fire fighters where on scene within 6 mins. It went from the 2nd floor to the top floor in 15mins but apparently started in the 4th like @Sunset said above a fridge was the cause

Faulty fridge freezer according to sky news?

Id heard this this morning, a guy being interview said it was someones fridge on the fourth floor blew up

  10. Have you lined up jobs or anything? or know where you'll be based for employment as that would have an effect on your location. Im definilty an eastern suburbs fan, having lived in and worked in quite a few areas in Melbourne over a couple of years Id chose south/central eastern areas. Obv the closer to the CBD the more expensive. @The Pom Queen has put up a few articles on here about different suburbs in Melbourne. Check out Realestate.com.au it will give you a break down on suburbs. Footscray probably wouldnt be my choice if im honest lol

  11. Applied 9th of January

Request for more information on 7th March eg Police checks and Medicals for myself and police check for her

Visa granted Monday the 5th of June

So just under 5 months , ours took a little longer because our wedding date wasn't until feb next year so had to leave a little long before granting.

There arent many on here for PMV but recently they have all been fairly quite between 3 months and 6 months but its Case by case and its a lottery, I didn't expect mine until August so when my C/O rang on Monday past i was pleasantly surprised!

Aaah the hard way then ? I thought Anglo Pacific offered to do a quote in person but maybe it was wishful thinking (reading) on my side!

It's good to know they are flexible. Looking at pictures I might be able to get away with a small cube, but that might be optimistic. Really have to do my own mock-up. Thanks for the tips!

I'll hopefully know at the weekend if I can fit my stuff into a small once I get all the boxes im gona use and then get it booked for a few weeks time!

Ive called Sevenseas 2-3 times requesting a quote from them but i still have no idea on cost!  We are in Cornwall so because its out of the area they needed to get to me........ the wait continues.    Ideally im looking for a large one and a medium to be delivered to Melbourne

Use the move cube website ? https://www.sevenseasworldwide.com/getquote

    its pretty handy!

I have trouble estimating how big a cube I'm gonna need... did you work it out yourself or did they come in person to have a look and give you an estimate (I think some companies provide that service)?

I measured it out in a corner and marked the wall out with masking tape, also got cardboard and made up a mock up.

Na they dont do that, you gotta work it out yourself. Watch the videos on it. they can also up grade the size from a small to medium and a medium to large or downgrade a medium to a small or a large to a medium as far as i know.

From reading on the movecube thread quite a few laid out their boxes in a corner to see what would fit. I done the same, only thing is mine are odd shaped because i've  a few bikes going into mine... only a few

Am sure she's well stoked!! Fab it's come thru so quickly for you both!

I know, I needa get my Movecube on the road a fair bit quicker than I thought so trying to sort all that out asap, plus everything else i needa sort too

Ive used my account a few times so its open. I've looked into setting it up, seems fairly easy to set up!

I know, organising that move is daunting, I find new things to sort out every day! Good luck!

Hope the 820 is straightforward too. Given that we come from a 300 where the sponsor already has to provide a police check etc I wonder if the sponsor approval process gets fast-tracked in that new two-steps procedure.

Ive an agent who will help us through it so hopefully that will speed things up for us. Told me to set up a joint bank account as soon as I arrive

Oh wow! That's fantastic news! Huge congrats. I can't believe that your CO rang to ask you - that's got to be a first?!

I know, he was checking if Id have enough time to submit my partner visa after we are married before the cut of date. We moved the wedding forward a few weeks from what was on the application, he was cool with our dates and said that should be enough time. So he said He'll grant it now if thats ok? of course I was like yes please!!

Amazing!!! Congrats ? how nice of them to call you to make sure it fitted your schedule! When are you flying?

So there will be a few of us 300ers applying for a 820 in the next few months... interested to see how the partner visa changes will affect us all...

Hoping to fly out first/second week of August. So much to sort out in the next month, wasn't expecting it as soon. hopefully the 820 is straight forward!
