  1. Omg just got ours 2 and a half weeks after lodging! U.K. With wife and child dependants!
  2. Thanks once again for more valuable advice Peachy. My son is 10 at the end of January,so I will have to get my skates on when we get over to Australia.
  3. Bound 4 Tassie I was expecting to have to pay on NHS,but thought it may be cheaper over in uk.
  4. My son is up to date with all NHS standard immunisations( uk schedule), but wondering if he needs Hep B jab before we come over? Are there any others he needs? As as we are on 457 visa I want to get as much done on our NHS before we come over, plus my son will be less nervous having jabs at his local doctors. Thanks in advance for any help.

    Enogerra

Enogerra does exist newjez, but I've no idea how to pronounce it.........good job I won't be needing to ask about the place when over there!

    Enogerra

Thanks Peachy,we are now sticking with our original plan to rent in/around Ferny Grove,we just need that 457 visa now so we can book flights!

    Enogerra

Thank you Srg 73, basically we want to rent in an area with a good state school, plenty to do for families, on train line to CBD but where, should our visa be extended be able to afford to buy in for $500,000 in a couple of years. Even better would be an area very close to the coast in N.W Brisbane (not on flood plains) with great state schools and property prices as above. Our problem is is husband on a 457 visa,so once it is granted he is needed to work,no time to travel around in day to find suitable areas.....we may even fly out with him immediately and just rent short term in CBD,but the more we can find out before we arrive the better. Ferny Grove area seems ideal, just wish it was a bit nearer the coast line. Brain ache yet again, looking for the 'right' place.

    Enogerra

Whilst looking out for rentals in Ferny Hills/Grove and Arana Hills I have come across Enogerra. Can anyone with knowledge of these areas let me know of any pros/cons of Ferny Grove area over Enogerra or vice versa please,as at the moment I am still in the Uk waiting for our visa,so limited to Internet research only. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  10. Thank you for the information,it is much appreciated and fingers crossed that you also get yours Asap.
  11. Hi migsguno visa officially lodged last week, that was latest status.
  12. We are currently waiting for my husband's 457 to allow us to go to Brisbane from the uk,does anyone know best case processing times? He is stressing me out, organising for this that and the other, all on the assumption our visa will arrive within the 8 week time frame, but he hopes it will take less time. I am soooo nervous,I would prefer not to make plans until the visa is granted!
  13. Hi Peachy So glad to hear that! Praying that the 457 goes through without any hitches, as after your reassuring comments and my research I am so excited about Ferny Hills/Grove area. Had a very helpful and friendly few emails from the Principal at Ferny Hills state school, but will also look at Patrick's Road primary once we get our rental sorted. My only worry is money and cost of living as my husband quit a very well paid senior position in a large IT outsourcing company last year, and for lifestyle change and to get a 457 visa has accepted a job in Oz that pays a third less of his income. I am an ex SEN mainstream primary teacher that quit 9 years ago to be a stay at home mum to our then baby son,as I lost my mum suddenly and became responsible for my late dad who had a rarer form of dementia. Since my son started school in 2011 I have worked as a part time SEN teaching assistant within the mainstream and hope to get similar work over in Oz once settled. However, from what I have read,it appears having to tighten our purse strings will be well worth it....there are some things money can't buy and looks like Brisbane has many such things to offer. 15. Really useful advice thanks Quoll.
  16. That's a reassuring post Peachy as we are waiting for my husband's 457 visa to come through, then booking our flights to Brisbane. we intend to rent for a month in CBD serviced apartment, then look at properties for long term rent in Ferny Hills/Ferny Cove and Arana a Hills thanks to tip off from this wonderful forum. Renting our house out over here in case we don't get residency visa in 2 years time or want to come home. Hoping that we love and get the chance to stay! Nothing ventured nothing gained!
  17. Thanks Quoll, only one son primary age. Do you need citizenship to avoid international uni fees? Am just thinking ahead.
  18. Thank you all for your help, what a relief!!!!!!!! My husband's best friend is an accountant and has mentioned a link with money saving on Private school fees over here.
  19. Hi I have read conflicting information on 457 visa holders paying fees in Brisbane. Can anyone please answer me these questions: All British citizens going over to Brisbane on husband's 457 visa, will we have to pay for our 9 year old to go to school in Brisbane(state school)? if so, how much? Also, if so can husband not pay tax on the school fee amount of his salary? Any other advice re school fees in Brisbane warmly welcomed.
  20. We really liked the look of Arana Hills, only concern is that nearest state primary school in Ferny Hills, or is it usual to have to go out of area? Spoilt at the moment,we live 3 mins walk(brisk pace) from school, yet don't see it from our home.
  21. Hi BacktoDemocracy, we too aim to go over into a holiday rental first and drive around. I have added Arana Hills to my search list for this evening. Think the employer is leaving it up to us,still a lot to discuss with them. Thanks for your time, very much appreciated.
  22. Thank you so much for the replies, husband used to driving 30 mins into Manchester in previous job. I shall get googling Springfield Lakes when our son goes to bed this evening.
  23. Hi Keith and Linda, my husband willhave a regular work client at Goodna and CBD......but has said he is flexible. Thank you for your response.
  24. Hi,my husband,9 year old son and myself are moving over to Brisbane in the next couple of months on a 457 visa. As temporary residents we will be renting(and keeping hold of our uk property), but if things work out we would be hoping to buy in a couple of years. Therefore our aim is to rent in an area we could potentially afford to buy in,and be happy to settle in....rather than rent for 2 years in an area we would then have to move away from and unsettle our son from new friends. Basically we are looking for a home west or north west suburbs of Brisbane, house price of $500k-$600k for when/if we buy, ideally on train line to CBD in an area with good state school( initially primary, then secondary in 2018). Thanks in advance for any suggestions,I have brain ache from trawling the Internet.
