  1. Yes sorry cubic feet. We have a shared container.... Overall we got 4 quotes, Generally all seem to provide the same sevice, Anglo pacific for us was the highest price. I suppose it all despends on the time, location and other factors so they could be the cheapest for other persons
  2. we paid £2650 for 673 cubic meters. This was to brisbane tho. this was really cheap and even the other shipping companies said....thats cheap, go with that. Might have just been the time of the year.
  3. Don't listen to it. We've just come over from the UK. England’s economy is relatively good at the minute, there seems to be a lot going on. Unfortunately the media propaganda is the killer. every time you watch the news its doom and gloom and unfortunately it sinks into people minds whether they like or not. There are downfalls such as illegal immigration and NHS being stretched to beyond capacity but theres issues in every country you go to. Although we've been here for 3 weeks in Australia, we're finding it really hard. Myself and my wife both want to work and we can't find jobs anywhere at the minute. In the UK we'd be snapped up straight away. But you've just got to get on with life and enjoy the one you've got. Good Luck!!!
  4. little bit to far...we're Brisbane
  5. In fact has anyone ever bought from Auction? probably get the car $2000 dollars cheaper but obvioulsy can't test drive.
  6. Ha tell me about the lemons...had a few of them in my time. Just reading about buying a car and it mentions the following:- 1. Ask to see the persons licence to see if they are the registered keeper 2. do a PPSR check to see if monies is owed (about $4) 3. As you mentioned safety certificate 4. Do a check on the cars history (cost $???), write off etc. 5. If there is a REGO compare this with the sellers licence. To be fair, I've hane been caught one time when buying in the UK for around $4000. The car had been a right-off and as such I lost around $1500. Never done any other checks? Whats your thoughts with the cost of the car? My gut feeling is just pay and check. The only one I have never done is go an independant inspection of the car done - I think the cost is around $275 and thats providing the seller is OK with it.
  7. Yes may mistake, it looks like you do have ctp. Then your can top up with comprehensive. As you mentioned the opt out maybe for something else. Has anyone one had any bad experiences for buying private? Seem to hear a lot of bad reports etc, but in the U.K. Pretty straight forward.
  8. Thanks Keith and Linda..... I've just been checking on https://www.service.transport.qld.gov.au/quoteforregistration and you can opt out of the Third party insurance when registering the car. The cost for CTP when registering is around $368.80 through the website. So what I don't understand is why would you just not opt out and pay for full comprehensive with an insurance company?
  9. Right Guys I need your assistance on buying a car in queensland......... 've done a bit of research into this at this end and have come up with the following, could someone confirm this is correct:- Buying used or from a garage the car requires a safety Certificate. When buying used the certificate must be within 2months or 2000km. from motor trade 3months or 1000km You are required to pay stamp duty on the car – 3% 1-4 cylinders, 3.5% 5-6 cylinders You have to pay for transfer of registration currently $26.20 which needs to be done in 14days of purchase; If the car has registration. If the car is not registered then you need to register this with minimum Compulsary third party insurance. Most just use full comprehensive. If you do purchase a car with registration does this mean it has compulsory third party and its up to you if you require full comprehensive. Think this is correct. Slightly different to the UK So in Queensland’s you register you vehicle every year with insurance and with the Queensland state but you don’t have the UK road tax or MOT every year. Thanks
  10. I agree this is really frustating, I was transferring money this week. Do I know transfer or wait? re
  11. So been checking the bank accounts any thoughts on ING anyone. reading about them they don't seem to bad
  12. Cheers Jamie, 1 week is not longer enough, I think we've got too much to sort out at the start i.e cars etc, Couple of weeks maybe ok, 3-4 more ideal. We've got a two small children (4 and 6) so didn't want to keep moving them. I'll have a look at air B+B see what they've got. Thanks
  13. Hi, can anyone recommend a Australian bank in addition to transferring money. I've been told there are some special companies other than banks where you get a better rate with the transfer. I was informed westpac was one of the better ones. I couldn't tell you why, thats all I was told. I thought you'd guys would have a better idea. Thanks Gareth and Beverley
  14. Hi, We are flying out 1st/2nd week in Feburary to Brisbane, our household has already been shipped. we're looking at getting a holiday apartment for 4+ weeks. We are looking around the Gold Coast area or between Gold Coast and Brisbane. If anyone has any recommdations or knows anyone it would be much appreciated. Thanks Gareth and Beverley
  15. Hi, We're moving in January and would welcome thoughts what is included in a unfurnished accommodation in terms of renting. Basically will there be washing machine, or do we need to fetch ours over? Obviously I know furniture wouldn't be included. Curtain poles? Curtains etc. Any assistance would be appreciated. Gareth and Bev
  16. Thanks. I suppose the biggy for us is, the settee and our bed have pretty much had it. So we need new ones. its whether we buy here and ship or buy there. We've already got a permanent visa. Runs out September 2017. We're hoping to get jobs and schools for the kids. then hopefully there shouldn't be an issue renewing this while we are there (providing we can show we are contributing to the economy).
  17. We intend to emigrate to Australia in November and was wondering is it worth shipping over the beds, table and settee, tv etc? Our intention is to rent a holiday home for 4 weeks just until we can find jobs, then hopefully rent. So wondering is it worth the extra costs for the shipping or just buy when we're there?
  18. Hi... We're looking at moving to Oz in end of November and are researching several removal companies. At the minute we have the following coming out to quote but we'd welcome any others which you may recommend:- 1. Anglo Pacifc 2. Pickfords 3. PSS
  19. Thanks stormy. The plan is November moving. Hopefully things might change but thanks for that. If you know anyone or could put me in touch with everyone that would be great.
  20. Hi cal, No we have got anywhere to stay at the minute but good advise in terms of the 3 to 4 weeks. I've been applying over here for structural engineer jobs but in all honesty I've not heard anything back. My gut feeling is that its because we're still in the UK. So we are going to chance it and sell the house in the UK and come over. Hopefully then get a job. One of the reasons for the gold coast is we went a few years ago and we loved it. However we know we must probably end up going where the work is, probably nearer to Brisbane. The main priority is our Children. If we arrive in November will our children be able to attend a school or do you have to apply before the term starts.
  21. Thanks Eddy, I think thats the conclusion we were coming to that most are family friendly. One of my gut feelings was would we be able to get employment in the Goldcoast? maybe like you said maybe situated to good transport. I've probably got a better chance of a Job in Brisbane as a Structural Engineer than the gold coast.
  22. I know exactly what you mean. We have a few 'not so nice places' in Sheffield. We went to the Gold Coast 2 yrs ago and loved it. Noce area. Nice people. Something totally different than seeing litter just thrown on the floor where I live
  23. Hi Everyone, Me and the family are looking at moving to the Goldcoast (or surrounding area) in November this year. Our visa is already sorted and we have been to the goldcoast before. We have two children 5 and 3 but in all honesty we'd like some help in choosing a location preferable a nice area with reasonable schools. I know that sounds silly but in all honesty we're just not to sure whether there are 'nice areas' or 'run down' areas. I'm a practising structural engineer. I've applied for jobs here in the UK and never hear anything, so we're going to take a bit of a gamble and just come out and try our luck. Again any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Gareth and Bev
