  1. Gosh - that does sound really long! I think we just need to go out there and give it a go, see how we both like it before making any long term decisions like that
  2. Thank you for your advice and good wishes - we are going to Melbourne and both very excited
  3. Just curious when I read this post - why did they request a health check? My partner recently applied and it was pretty much an instant approval. They never asked for a health check though. I'm beginning to wonder if we missed something out?
  4. The situation is a little bit different because we started the relationship after I'd submit my visa application but have not been together as a 'de facto' couple long enough. The relationship became serious though so we're now trying to work out a way of remaining together on a 'let's see how things progress' basis, making it quite tricky to plan. Then there is the fact an open return flight only works if you're returning to the same destination. We're flying out from the UK but he is from Sweden. Of course it's not a big deal to find a flight to Sweden from the UK, but it would be much more preferable for him to fly back via a more direct route! If we decide we both like it and want to stay on we will obviously need to look into partner visa options
  5. Hello again, I have a follow up question in relation to my earlier post. My partner and I are currently looking at one-way flight tickets. As a reminder, I am on a skilled 189 visa and he has a working holiday visa 417 which he hasn't activated yet. I have already entered Australia on my visa and was not asked any questions, I'm assuming due to my permanent residency status. With my partner being confined within the 12 month period of the working holiday visa, is he likely to get asked questions as to why he hasn't booked a return flight yet? Would he need to prove he has funds in his account to cover a return flight? I figured that at least some travellers on this visa leave the option open as many end up applying for the 12 month extension that is offered. Or perhaps many just book the flight back at a later date? Would this be deemed suspicious/problematic in some way? Thank you everyone
  6. Thanks everyone for the input. We just left out the higher degree course as it wasn't completed and visa was approved without issues
  7. Hi, thanks for the reply. Perhaps I should have been a little clearer in what I meant. My partner is in the middle of his degree, so has not completed a higher degree. However he has completed modules/courses within his degree. My question is more around what is meant by 'course'. Do they mean university modules, or do they class a course as the entire completed higher degree?
  8. Hi there, A simple question regarding the question " What is your highest qualification? " - the options on the list are: Higher degree course Degree couse Diploma course Technical or training certificate College degree Senior high school degree or certificate Junior high scool degree, certificate or report My partner has completed university courses/modules but not graduated. What is the difference between 'higher degree course' and 'degree course' ? Does a course mean a completed bachelors degree or just university modules? Thank you!
  9. Hi again, Now that we've both read up more on the specifics for the work holiday visa we noticed that on the Australian Government department of homeaffairs.gov.au webpage it lists Sweden as one of the countries that has an RHCA agreement for medicare cover in Australia. My understanding is that this covers most healthcare aspects such as doctors visits, some prescription medicine and any hospital care. Would my partner still require tourist insurance if this is the case? Why would insurance be needed at all? This is the link we're looking at: https://www.humanservices.gov.au/individuals/enablers/rhca-visiting-from-sweden Thank you!
  10. Thanks for the reply regarding the health coverage. Sorry yes, I meant to say a working holiday visa, the plan for now being to have 12 months. How long would we need to wait before being able to apply for an extension/partner visa? Would I need to reapply with him or is it just him?
  11. Hi all, I have permanent residency(skilled 189) that I activated a couple of months ago but have flown back to spend Christmas with my boyfriend whom I met after I had begun my VISA application process, hence why we did not go through a partner visa. The relationship has since become serious so he is now in the process of applying for a work tourist visa in order to join me. We will both be flying out to Oz together after the new year. Can someone please advise on what sort of health insurance he would need? He is from Sweden - so I assume the requirements are similar to those of the UK and will not be an issue? Also - is a work tourist visa the best option for us? Thanks in advance
  12. Hi all, I have A LOT of toiletries (bottles of perfumes, body butters/lotions, make up foundations, shampoos etc) as a result of bulk-buying in the sales. It seems like a complete waste of money to just bin most of it, especially with some of the brands being quite expensive. Can I ship it all to Australia or do liquid restrictions apply? Thank you!
