  1. Good luck with AHPRA, I hope they recognise your previous supervision. when did you get your PR? I am in the over 35's too, hence time and age are not on my side for points and need high score in an english test to get the 20 points for language.
  2. Well done Paige, now you can move on to the next stage...all the best. i've also heard the writing is easier in the general test.
  3. Ah ok, so you're at the second stage where you need to get a job with supervised practice, which seems to be the hardest bit....you'll get there, you have come so far already..just keep going. which agent did you use and would you recommend them? We've had quotes from a few (go Matilda and Concept Australia). My plan is to get a high score English test, then apply for the Desk top audit myself, once that comes through, I would get the help from an agent with the EOI and the visa application. So, really need to get a high score test and sharpish (haha).
  4. Hmmmm...it does sound like a proper 'catch 22' situation. There are quite a few treads on here regarding this problem. I suppose you have to just keep persevering with the job hunting from here and hope that Lady Luck might struck I might have missunderstood, but did you say you currently have AHPRA registration, which is due to expire in Oct? If so, are you not able to just renew it like we do with HCPC here and look for a job stating that you have full registration? Btw, how was your PR visa experience? I am soooo right at the beginning
  5. PTE is Pearson Test of English - just another test really. Yes, the red tape sounds quite complex over there. But you have an davantage as you have already worked there, so should be much easier for you. Wishing you all the best. Which OT area do you want to work in? I am no sure if this is correct, but apparently OT is not longer on the NZ shortage list....so not sure if it might affect Oz in any way.
  6. Didn't do so well on the ielts so will try the PTE next. Well done for getting your PR ? Would it not be easier for you to go there before Oct, get a job and will be hopefully much easier to renew your registration. It seems a lot more complex than HCPC here.
  7. Ahhhhh....passed, but didn' get enought for 20 points. I got L7.5 R8 W6 S8.5 I run out of time for the writing, so knew that I would not score 8. I agree with you, I found the whole day dragged and the extremelly strick rules added to the stress. 66 people in an exam hall is not the most natural environment. I was under the impression that everyone would have their own headset for the Listening part but it was played on speakers for the entire hall....people were sneezing, coughing, moving, dopping pens etc. I found it intefering and could not hear properly at times. So, onwards and upwards and I will give the Pearson Test a go on 19 April. Hope you get the scores you need, let me know how you've done...keeping fingers crossed for you.

    PTE

Hi there, do you still have the book? I would love to borrow it if possible. I am planning on doing this test soon so would be ideal for preparation before hand. How was your experience? I sat the IELTS 2 weeks ago but didn't get enough points in Writing (scored 6 but need min.8), so willing to try the PTE instead. Thank you
  9. No results yet, one more week to wait. I am not holding my hopes high, but will wait and see. good luck with your tests tomorrow Paige & Kirsty
  10. Thank you and same here Paige, although I feel I might not get 8's this time. I have always likes tests and exams but found the IELTS quite stressful. It was my first time and I suppose I didn't really know what to expect. I did put in a lot of practice in but still found the time allowed not enough esp. for reading and writing. Is it your first test? If you need any further info let me know, be happy to help.
  11. Could you not renew your registration before it expires in Oct rather than applying from scratch? I am starting right from scratch, just done ielts and waiting for results but already have a feeling that I might not get the required min. 8 score in all components (need this for points). So will probably have to re-sit that one. Following this I will apply for the 1st stage desktop audit, then EOI etc. it sounds like you already have your PR, so well done But the whole Aphra registration and the OT job market in general doesn't seem very promising at present. I have heard stories of other OT's who have gone on a PR and struggled to register, one's working as a nanny and another as a gardener. Been an OT now for over 2 years, acute, intermediate care and community elderly rehab. Is the role similar in Oz, they seem more advanced in vocational rehab? What was your previous Oz experience like in terms of role, team, setting etc. And where would you be looking to settle now?
  12. Hi Paige - I did mine on Saturday just gone 12th March - best of luck with yours this Saturday.
  13. I will follow this with interest as I am an OT too and looking to try and make the move down under, so thanks for posting this. I emailed a recruitment agency based in Sydney and they said that there's a lack of OT jobs across all areas, and securing a supervised practice is very tought. They did say chances are greater in rural areas but again no guarantees. So doesn't sound very promising for us OT's at present :-( Have you applied for the deskop ax yet?
