  1. Hi all, I applied on 01 Aug 17 and got my email invite for the Citizenship test today for the end of Nov. I live in the N.T.
  2. It is going to be interesting to see if there is any difference in processing times between States. My DIBP Office is Darwin, so it will be interesting to see if my application is put through rapidly or if the Office has to take a share of the backlog? I guess only time will tell. I submitted my application on the 1st Aug.
  3. My wife has just told that on Skynews website it says that DIBP have been told that they have to clear the backlog by Christmas. We'll see as I don't think that they can.
  4. Did I miss something as the article said the proposed bill had passed the lower house?
  5. Does anyone know when the Bill is going back before the House? Or are they going to wait for the results of the Senate committee? The lack of progress is starting to get annoying. Whilst I appreciate that they have just come back from their Winter break, this has been rolling around since April with no clear indication of time lines etc, etc. I just would like to know either way so that I can get on with things and make plans instead of being stuck in application process purgatory!
  6. To be honest, I am not sure. Hopefully I would be, as at present the new rules have been enacted and I have met the criteria for the laws that are in place. That said, I am fortunate enough to be able to stand the loss of the application fee.
  7. Well, that is it. My wife and I have submitted our applications tonight under the old rules. It is now in the hands of the Gods. Just have to wait to see if common sense will prevail in the realm of the MP's!
  8. They will not have too trawl to hard. A quick computer search will tell them all they have to know. Refunding everyone that has applied will be fun though as everyone whom has applied after the 20th Apr until the new rules (if passed) is technically able to apply. I think the rules will change but not in the present format, but what that will be, will be another issue. Besides, with the current MP/Senator eligibility wrangle that is going on, I think that the proposed changes are going to be put on the back burner as each party gets its own little ducks in a row. Hopefully the Senate review committee will not support the proposed changes in terms of (time) eligibility.
  9. Where are you getting the info on the time line for processing? Admittedly, I haven't looked myself but I am curious.
  10. I will not be eligible under the new rules until Apr 2020. I have to chance it and apply now. If it does get the new rules do get rejected, then at least my application will be in the long waiting list.
  11. No particular reason. Just did not want to apply and for them to say that all current applications will be processed but all new ones will have to abide by the new rules i.e. not back dated but the new rules apply if passed through parliament.
  12. Hopefully it is a glitch. Trying to get my application done before Parliament resits.
  13. Just tried to apply online under the old rules. Only got to page 4 before it came up saying the site had technical difficulties. Anyone else having similar issues?
  14. I have spoken to my local Federal MP's electorate officer and my Territory MP about this (both Labor). They have both said that there is/has been a lot of behind the scenes wrangling going on over this subject as the proposed changes will have a massive impact on the Northern Territory and for rural Australia as a whole. I just hope that when parliament resits that the issue is finally put before the House and finally voted on so that everyone will know exactly where they stand and can get on with their lives.
  15. I have seen several posts on here stating that any application made on or after the 20th April has been accepted but put on Hiatus. Is there any physical proof of this or are these just statements made after speaking to Immigration? I only ask as I am eligible to submit my own application for Citizenship at the end of this month under the present rules. Thanks!
  16. I don't think anyone is complaining about being here Parley. For me, it is the descrimination against those of us whom entered Australia on a temporary visa. I am here for the long haul but it also means that my wife cannot apply for certain jobs as Citizenship is required.
  17. I just stated that why are people whom came in on a temporary visa being singled out as needing longer to integrate in to Australian society. I pointed out I still have to abide by the same rules and if I came on a permanent visa, I would be able to apply after four years. I asked what is the difference?
  18. Wrote to my local (Labour) MP at the weekend.
  19. Eligible under the existing legislation. I have not heard when the new rules are being put to Parliament. I am assuming that immigration have no authority to impose the new rules or judge any application by them until it has passed through the lower house and senate.
  20. Feeling frustrated at the moment as I cannot apply until July. I have seen posts on here about the delay in processing but I had a friend at work whose application and ceremony was all done and dusted in about 3 months.
  21. I don't how immigration cannot process an application as the changes have not been enacted by Parliament. That said, they have stated that the new rules would be back dated to Apr 20th. Does this mean if they process an application and you are granted citizenship, will it be revoked if they pass the new laws and you do not meet the criteria?
  22. I don't think that they would change their minds at this stage. I will have to wait for my Mara agent to do what he can.
  23. Hi, I am trying to get a 187 rsms. I've had an email from my Mara agent whom says there is a solution. It just seems odd to me that my employer can withdraw their sponsorship but still keep me employed on a 457.
  24. Hi, the nomination was approved last Sep, I am just waiting to be granted PR. Yes, I do know why they said that They are removing their support and it is something that I could take further but it not something that I wish to make public at this stage. They haven't fired me and are continuing my 457 sponsorship.
  25. I applied for a 189 employer sponsored visa sorry I got it wrong I have applied for a 187rsms
