Ok I've missed a major factor here....do I need to do IELTS test before skills assessment??? Was being a little naive presuming as a British citizen I didn't need to! How do I go about this please??
-
Although we aren't heading out until late next Summer I would be grateful if anyone has any suggestions as to how I might secure a job before we go. We are planning for Perth! I am a secondary school teacher specialist subject Art and Design but also have ICT and RE. Can also offer Design & Tec and Home Economics Or should I just be realistic and accept the fact I'll be going out to relief work and hopefully securing a post when I'm out there??

My agent advises to wait for police check until I get an invitation but I need one anyway to register with the QCT so I've just ordered it anyway. I think you need to enter Australia within a fixed period from medical / checks,
Thank you Heisenberg!
-
No. I applied for my visa and booked medical and police checks about a month later. We will still land 4 months before required to, there's no point rushing these things in my opinion.
Benj1980 my letter has come from PGCE University to state teaching days and course content etc but no student number or date. Should I get it resent with both?
-
After closer inspection I have only transcripts for one year of my degree so will obviously need to get the others along with my certificate copy. It has my registration number which by memory is my student number. I can also get a verification letter from my university which I reckon I'll do anyway just to be sure. Did you get your police check and medical check before your EOI?
-
There was a ruling over no transcripts before 2010 or something for my course, but I just kept moaning!
Well that will be a problem for me too considering I graduated in 2001. I have actually just found transcripts for both my degree and pgce! Didn't even know I had them! Benj1980 they both state my module code, module title, credit points, level and result in addition to all my details and course details. Is that enough?
-
Hi, I got a positive AITSL result back today. I used an agent and they advised that an academic transcript with module by module scores would be required. The number of teaching days is very important. I was lucky to find certificate and academic transcript for PGCE but also needed letter from PGCE provider to confirm course content and number of teaching days. A letter from Uni for my first degree confirming that no module marks were now available and a copy degree certificate were sufficient. Both Unis were happy to provide paperwork required.
Now have 60 points an I'm submitting my EOI next week. Anyone need a physics or chemistry teacher on the Gold Coast ?
Great news! Thanks for this info. Fingers crossed both universities will have what I need!
-
They are looking for transcripts from your awarding university. The issues people have had is either they have lost them or did not receive transcripts due to completing a SCITT or GTP entry route. I went the SCITT route and had to argue my case to my awarding university to issue a transcript for my course, they weren't otherwise issued. You will not be accepted without them.
Thanks for this benj1980. Guess I'll just need to get in contact with both universities and see what they have or don't have. Potentially heading to Perth also

Advice on AITSL application please...just to clarify we need our certificate for in my case an Honours Degree and PGCE and 'transcripts'?? I've heard a few having problems with the transcripts can anybody confirm exactly what they are looking for please? Thanks in advance

Moving to sunny Perth at end of Dec and start job end of Jan. I'm walking on air!
Front loading means that you do your medical and police check before you submit your EOI. Only issue is that you get a year to validate your visa by flying into Oz based on the earlier of the police or medical check. In effect I only have 11 months instead of a year to validate. My skills assessment took nearly the standard 10 weeks. It was seven weeks between my application and grant dates. I was lucky to be invited after the first round so that cut down the time too
Sending you a pm x

7 weeks?! I presume that didn't include your skills assessment? You are going to have to excuse my ignorance but what do you mean by your strategy of 'front loading'??
-
How long did it take for your visa if you don't mind me asking??
-
Thanks so much for this
You got a post in Perth?! Absolutely delighted for you!
-
Ok so I'm sure this has all probably been asked a hundred times but I'm about to start the roller coaster adventure and try to do a 189 visa application without an agent. I haven't a clue where to start - am I right in saying I have to get my skills assessed before I submit an EOI?? Is it with AITSL and if so how do I go about it? Sorry this could be the start of A LOT of questions!

Brother in law and fiancé are currently looking to buy so will initially be staying with them but have been looking at northern suburbs for ourselves. As for support putting us and three children up until we get on our feet will be a massive help. Whatever way we look at we are inclined to come to the conclusion that I'm more likely to secure a job in Qld and hubby in Perth. We could go to Perth and live with his brother until we get work which would be fine without kids! With waiting lists it looks like we need to get them sorted with childcare asap and can't do that without jobs. But there's no point taking the job in Qld if my husband can't get anything. So we are kinda going round in circles. Just going to have to take a risk one way or another
-
We have weighed up all the factors and still finding it hard to make a call. Ultimately I need to secure a job - well we both do with two going into kindy and one in full time childcare!
-
So if the job offer was in Qld would I be better taking it or holding out for Perth?
-
My specialism is Art & Design but also have ICT, Re and Special Needs. From previous experience as a interior architect with Autocad skills and strong Graphics background I have been advised that I could also teach Industrial Design & Tec/Manual Arts. Rural areas seem to have the teaching jobs but we have family in Perth and my husband is a joiner whose prospects may be better there in a city location.
-
Hi there. Could anyone advise on the job prospects for secondary teachers in Perth. I have been advised that there is an over supply and opportunities would be better in Queensland where there is a shortage. Any advice would be much appreciated!
-
Hi Benj1980 - job offer all being well.
Thanks a million for info on Yeppoon Miller. Are childcare cost the same as Rockhampton? There doesn't seem to be very many rental properties in Yeppoon?? We are hoping for next summer (UK) but may be sooner depending on the job. Anyone offer advice on prospects for a carpenter Rockhampton area??
-
My husband is also a joiner (carpenter) and a bit concerned about his prospects in Rockhampton. It's more important I secure the job but we both need work to support two in kindy and one in full time daycare!
-
Thanks for your replies! Hi Millers I'd be keen to know more about Yeppoon as we've started looking into there..bit worried about the heat and three little ones in Rockhampton. Anything in relation to schools childcare rent things to do etc would be great!

Hi Selina. We are just about to start our application. I'm a secondary school teacher with hubby and three kids. We are also going for the 189 visa. Did you use an agent?? Can't decide as fees are unbelievable! Where are you planning to move to?
