  1. Hi Tom. Just wanted to let you know that all is not lost on the job front. We are a family of five who have secured a 189 visa based on me as a teacher...this is a skills based permanent visa. We are moving to Perth in a few weeks and I have secured a post. As for qualifications all I can tell you is my experience...you must have the four years whether it's a Bachelor in Ed or a degree with PGCE. You also need to provide evidence of 45 supervised teaching practice. It might be an idea to contact AITSL for advice on your situation. Unfortunately you will not get a visa without your skills assessment if you go this route. Feel free to PM me
  2. Hi there, Anybody have suggestions for best company to ship/fly boxes? Thanks
  3. Hi there, I'm afraid I can't comment on your questions as we are about to make the move but our situations are very similar. We are moving to Perth at the beginning of October with three young children. Both myself (teacher) and husband (joiner) have been very fortunate to secure jobs. We went through the same roller coaster ride deciding if it was the right thing to do and feeling incredibly guilty about the grandparents. But in the end up we had to be 'selfish' and focus on what we felt was right for us and more importantly the kids. We were granted a 189 Skilled Independent Visa based on me as a teacher which came through relatively quickly after a few hiccups along the way. I've taken a career break and we are renting our home to have that safety net to fall back on. But we are fortunate in that my brother in law and fiance are already there so we can stay with them until we get on our feet. We are also quite an independent family and don't have grandparents close by for help which I think is good preparation for the move. However our kids are very close to them and it will be difficult to say goodbye. The only advice I can give you from our perspective is that life is short and we want to give this a shot for a long number of reasons but mainly for the kids. No regrets! Hope this helps
  4. Hi, I can't answer your question re shipping but thought I would say hello as we are also moving to Perth from Northern Ireland in October. We've three little ones...3 year old twins and a 2 year old. We are looking into the move cube rather than a container as we aren't taking very much (well that's the plan!). Where are you moving to in Perth?
  5. That was good timing! Could I post it out to a friend who is an optometrist (on the list) to certify and send them back? I've read they won't take a scanned copy. They don't make it very easy!
  6. Thank you. This is a bit more reassuring if I can get my registration sorted!
  7. Is there any way to complete registration before we get out? I have gone through the Non-Practising Registration and the only problem I face is that my supporting docs must be certified by Australian High Commission which isn't possible. Am I able to get a contact who is on the list and practising in Australia to do this? If not any suggestions?? Thanks
  8. Hi there, We only need to ship a small quantity of items...clothes, toys, etc and was hoping there may be an alternative to the move cube as it seems a little over priced for all that it is. Thanks in advance
  9. Can anyone advise if it is possible to apply for teaching jobs from the uk if you can't register or do your WWC until you get there? We are probably heading over at a bad time (October) in relation to even getting relief work - would there be any chance of getting something so late into the last term or should I be prepared to wait until the new term in February?
  10. Yes that would make sense! List so far.... 1. Declutter 2. Rent house 3. Sell cars 4. Organise container/move cube 5. Cancel direct debits/close bank accounts 6. Register for teaching 7. Random one but recommended - write a will! 8. Open Oz bank accounts - here/Oz? 9. Health insurance - here/Oz? 10. Organise all paperwork - passports, birth certificates etc As you can see my list isn't very long!
  11. Hi! Thanks so much for this information. I think I will probably have to register when we get there - have you any idea of timescale if you register in Australia? How do you go about doing the check? We are heading to family in Morley until we get on our feet! I'm secondary school - Art & Design teacher with IT. How is the job situation in Perth now? I understand it will very likely be relief work for me which will hopefully lead to short term contract and a possible job. I know the chances of walking into a perm post are slim but I'm prepared for that! Any advice on CVs would also be greatly appreciated lol
  12. Hi there. Can anybody advise on what I need to do to teach in Perth? We have just received our grant and I understand I need to register with the state I plan to teach in. How do I do this and is there anything else required? Thanks in advance
  13. Hi there! We are a family of five migrating to Perth! I've just started putting a list together of everything we need to do before we leave and was wondering if anyone would like to advise?! I'm sure there are plenty of things I haven't considered! Thanks in advance
  14. Thank you! No we only lodged our application on 18th April. Can't believe how quickly it has come through!
