Hiya the girls love their new school and have settled in really well have made friends easily (school only has 187 kids in it). We are all loving the Darwin life but would recommend getting a place with a pool (its helped with the kids to adjust to the heat). Im sure you will love it here x

  2. Hello everyone

I have just moved to Darwin, I have been here for one week!! I have been in Adelaide for 4 years before I moved up here. I am originally form Oxford, I moved here in 2011. I would love to meet up with any families especially people from the UK. I have made no connections up here so far as I have not started work yet and I spend most of my days at home as I have a 2 year old boy. I am living in Leanyer it's about 3kms from Casuarina. I am keen to start building up a network or even start up an expat mums group etc as I think we all need some support being so far from friends and family in the UK!!

One thing I want to say is that Darwin truly is beautiful, the lifestyle on offer here is relaxed and the general population are so friendly. It's great for kids... so much to see and do.

Hope to catch up with some or all of you moving out here when you arrive :)

PM me if you want my mobile number!

  3. Hi all we are now in Darwin and loving it.... Been here a week today and all going well.... Kids have settled into school really quickly and also settled in our house really well so all good.... now just need to find jobs...

Only thing I dont like (but its an issue for me anywhere) is the mosquitos they are eating me alive but other than that all is good.... The kids love seeing the different lizards and watching the bats fly at sunset...

Thats all for now as all a bit busy and barely get 2mins to myself at the mo...will comment again soon x

Hay Aussiegirl its all go for us we fly out 1st week of September. Very excited a little nervous and a bit stressed with trying to sort everything and pack (not easy with all the kids with me) otherwise all is going well not long now

  7. personaly id wait closer the time as its possible your plans may get overlooked and the CO may not remember getting the email. But if they know your flight details nearer the time they might just swing the grant for you. I guess it depends on how many their allowed to generate in that month.

hmmm well you never know... I might wait till Im at the 9 month mark and send CO email then..

Will keep you updated with whats going on...

  8.

We've been shocked by how expensive Dorset is.

We are shocked and we live here. The cost of Dorset has just been going up and up over the years and is still going up. Its crazy. Unfortunately the wages here dont seem to rise much so most have to work extra hours to keep up with the cost of living.

  9. Were hoping the same, it would save alot of further expense. Weve already told our CO but are going to email him again the week before our flight just to see what happens. Ive seen others on here do the same close to the granting time frame and it has worked.

It would make life easier if visa was granted and save quite a bit to. Do you think I should tell CO now? or wait till nearer the time to let CO know?

  10. Hi Lea

Can I ask if you are there on a tourist visa? Looks like the 10 month mark is the timeframe for most people which means hubby's and step-daughter's be through end of January (lodged end of March).

My youngest at crucial stage in education (starts year 11 this September in the UK) and wrote asking for compassionate grounds to go earlier but unfortunately schooling not seen as good enough reason......

So....plan is to apply for tourist visa beginning of October, apparently they take a month (?) so if we got that beginning of November, all systems go for house content and tickets booked for end of November. I have read that you can extend the 3 month limit (we may need to as margins will be tight) but being there then means girls can at least be accepted into the school we want and spend a couple of days there before they break up. Hubby obviously wouldn't be able to work but 2 months wouldn't kill us and we'd be there for Xmas :-)

Anyone else any advice for going through this route??

    Annaleis :-)

Hello there we are doing the same.... I'm going out on a evisitor visa in Sept which will be 3 days before my 10 month mark is up but its only me that needs the visa as hubby and our 3 girls are Aussie citizens. It was the issue with starting school in September that we made the decision to go earlier rather than wait so we can get the girls in to school asap... The only thing that will be hard is when I have to leave for 3 days but we have Aussie nan coming up to help us hopefully they will be ok and I get a 3day mini holiday (havent had a day with no child for 10 years I wont know what too do with my self lol)

I applied on line for my evisitor visa. I applied on Friday and got my grant this morning (Monday) so all seems good...
