  1. Hi, thanks for for all the advice everyone. I'm going to look into the tax situation for UK property. Hopefully we will be ok as my wife won't be working for those first five years and the house is in her name. Does anyone one know if the aus dollar is going to get weaker for the new year or so? cheers
  2. Hi, We're planning on moving to Australia but want to hedge out bets. The plan is to move there for two years and then come back to the UK for a holiday. Then if we like it in Australia commit to another two/three years and if we really like it stay permanently. Can anyone advice on what would be best to do with our money? I feel like I'd rather keep most my cash in the UK and then send it over after the five years when I know it's permanent. Maybe rent for five years and rent my flat in the UK? I'm putting my question here because I thought the people that moved back would know best. Sorry if I offended any Australians on here. I no we're going to love our time there but unsure if we want to stay there for ever.
  3. Hi, there has been a new report out that says because of changing demographics( more children) there will be an increase in demand for teachers. Hopefully that will be true. http://www.acer.edu.au/media/article/population-boom-spurs-demand-for-more-teachers-new-schools
  4. Here look at the last three pages http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/jobs-careers/204248-teachers-oz.html
  5. Hi rnb31, been speaking to some teachers on another thread and I think you might be over estimating. Have a look at what there saying.
  6. Hi, thanks sammy1 and adnjio. I was abit concerned with how the press make it out to be an expensive place to live. We would hopefully live on the coast or an hour outside of a big city. So that should hopefully cut on costs.
  7. Hi, I've been looking into the costs of living in Australia and can't seem to find a number for how much you should be aiming to earn a year. I'm assuming it's because it's very different for different places and everyone has a different idea of a good/basic standard of living. So rather than ask for a number from teachers I'd thought I'd ask more general questions. 1) is money a big challenge with a teaching wage? 2) Were hoping my wife won't work the first few years so she can look after our young family. If we had a mortgage/rent 400 a week could we survive on one teaching wage? Enough to pay bills and food? Very happy to not eat out, hold off on the luxuries and settle in for the first few years. Just don't want to get there and be getting into debt. Thanks
  8. Hi, thanks for for the quick reply. I'm assuming it's 92 before they take tax? Can I ask how much you have put aside for rent/mortgage? I'm hoping to live outside a major city. Which will have a big effect on house costs. Were the same as you. We want to keep our uk house and see where we are after three years. Thanks
  9. Hi, great to see all this information but was wondering if anyone could answer in terms of a weekly/ monthly budget rather than cost of specific items. I'm just worried we won't be able to afford it when we get there. How much do you think you would spend on average per month for everything excluding rent/ mortgage ( I no this will vary dramatically depending where we live)for a family of five with three children under five? If that family really budgeted. We're happy to not eat out, will send our children to a state school, really cut on the costs for the first few years to get settled. But don't want to be struggling to pay the bills and feeding my children. Cheers
  10. Thanks so so much vanduex and milliem for the advice. Your really selling Queensland to me. I'm going to look into the visa next.
  11. Thanks vanduex. Did u have to have your visa sorted before or could you apply before/sametime as you Registered with qct. i know it's a strange question but we're hoping to have a child before we go. So won't be able to apply for the visa until there born.
  12. Hi, does anyone know if you can register with a states college/institute of teaching before you arrive in Australia? I'm planning on moving in July next year when most of the jobs are advertised and worried I won't be able to apply because it will take time to register. Also how long does the registration process take? Cheers
  13. Thanks for such a quick reply. I'm going to look into the visa situation. I hoping to move July 2016 and will try and get some key stage 3 math for next academic year.
  14. Hi, new to the website and just spent the last two hours looking at all the messages on this thread. Ive learnt lots thanks! Just unsure which state to move to. Very aware it will be challenging to find a job and I will probably have to do supply work initially. Does anyone know if some states/areas are easier to find work than others? Ideally i would like to live up to two hours outside a major city like brisbane or adelaide. Is that unrealisitic? cheers j
