  1. Thanks for your reply. I read it's about the expected cost in $$$ and whether it would block access for other citizens but other than that it seems like a bit of a black box. I'll get it touch with George Lombard to discuss. Do you know if he is still active as his website appears to be offline? http://www.austimmigration.com.au/
  2. Hi all, I've submitted an EOI for a 491 state nomination visa as an Accountant (General) with 90 points. However, in the latest invitation rounds on skills select I noticed that External Auditors were being invited on the 189 with only 65 points. Is it worth me submitting a second EOI for a 189 (or even a 190) with 70 (75) points? On the 491, I've entered the state only as Western Australia (my preferred state). I read it's better to select a single state rather than selecting 'Any'. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this? Lastly, my wife was diagnosed with OCD as a teenager. She's been on medication ever since and has been to private therapy on and off over the years. What's the best way to gauge whether this is would be a deal breaker before we actually apply and pay the $$$s in visa costs? Does anyone know an agent who specialises in specific health applications? Thank you in advance :)
  3. It seems like only a few years ago people were being accepted on 189/190s with 65-70 points, but now it's more like 90-95. I am just curious what factors caused the change? Is it just a case that Australia can produce its own "skilled" workers now so do not need to rely on bringing migrants? Sorry to the mods of this should be in a different part of the forum.
  4. Thanks again, Toots. I've contacted some migration agencies online so hopefully I'll hear something back this week. With that in mind, can you recommend any agencies? My current selection method is Google followed by TrustPilot which is not ideal. I'll update this post on the commitments from the sponsor once I know for future reference. Cheers
  5. Thank you for your reply. I am confused why you think it has to be my relative? The list provided by Toots states: "A sponsor must be: 18 years old or older usually resident in a designated area of Australia be an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen be your or your partner’s eligible relative" Am I missing something? Anyway, I think you're right about getting professional advice and I have reached out to some migration agents online. I am finding it difficult to find anything on what providing sponsorship actually means for the sponsor. Again, thanks for the reply.
  6. Thank you for clarifying that, Toots. Do you, or anyone else reading this, happen to know what the commitment is from the sponsor? I'm struggling to find this information online. We're going to raise the question to the uncle in WA but we want to be armed with the facts first. Also, does anyone know whether what the chances of WA/DOHA are of accepting my family sponsor application with 95 points if my job isn't on WA's state sponsorship list? Thanks again for the time and stay safe one and all!
  7. I'm no expert but I think the latest invitation rounds have not been inviting anyone with less than 90 points. There are likely other visas (e.g. 491) which may provide you with an alternate route to PR.
  8. Hi all, I am coming to the end of my professional ACA exams in the UK and I plan (or rather hope ) to be a chartered accountant in September 2020. Its been a long term goal of mine immigrate to Australia when I qualify. Unfortunately, the 189/190 routes seems to be out of the question for "221213 - External Auditors" given the invitation rounds in the 90-95 point range. I have basically have two options: 1. I can transfer with my current firm to the Western Australia office, where they arrange a 482 visa and, if all goes well, I can then apply for PR after 3 years with that same employer. 2. My fiance (we should be married shortly after I qualify if Covid 19 doesn't get in the way) has an uncle in WA who could sponsor us on the 491. This option is appealing to me as option 1 ties my visa to my employer (not sure that's a healthy power balance). I was hoping you could help me answer the following: - Is an uncle in law an appropriate family member for 491 sponsorship? If so, would it also count for defacto relationships i.e. Before were married? Or woukd we have to wait until married to submit An EOI. - Can I still apply for family Sponsorship even though 221213 isn't on the WA state sponsorship occupation list? - I imagine most jobs for auditors and accountants will be in and around Perth, but am I right in thinking we won't be allowed to work/live in Perth as its one of the excluded regions? With the 15 points of family Sponsorship I would have 95 points on the 491 visa. Note: I understand that both routes to PR assume that 221213 is on the skilled list at the end of the three years. Thanks for reading and it'd be great to hear what you guys think.. Cheers, Archimedes
  9. The point requirements for accountants is very high (90 last time I checked)
  10. Skillselect shows that 85 is the minumum for Accountant General so on paper it all looks good. You should speak to a qualified migration agent. A few months ago it was 95 so I'd apply as soon as possible if I were you. Keep us all updated with your progress. Good luck
  11. I'm going down the secondment route as I only have 80 points for 190 (75 for 189). I'm currently in the process of organising a 2 year secondment to Australia with my existing emoloyer. I'll then have two options: Once I get the Australian work experience I will have 85 points and I'll reapply for 189/190. Or I'll try to extend my secondment so I meet the 3 year requirement for the TSS to PR route. Anyway, as for the points requirements for auditors and accountants it was as high as 95 and 90 respectively earlier in 2019. Best of luck mate
  12. I'm afraid I don't know how your brother and sister living in Australia will impact your application. I know the July Invitation Round only sent invites to auditors and accountants with 85 points for 189 visa. Good luck with your application and keep us posted on your progress
  13. How many points do you have based on your current situation? Per skills select the current requirement for auditors and accountants is 85 points.
  14. Haha!! Damn.. I think I underestimated how saturated the industry is. My selfish side just hopes the external audit jobs stays on the list long enough for me to get in. Hmm.. I guess my best route is try to get an internal transfer to Australia with my current firm. This will give me additional points of "in Australia work experience" for a 189 and/or I could go down the 186 route.
  15. Yeah, latest invitation round is 90 for 2211 accountants and 85 2212 for auditors. My work experience is in the external audit field. Tbh, it is looking less likely that I will ever be invited to apply Has this happened before where the point requirement spikes to 85-90 and then is reduced at a later date? I can only see previous rounds on skill select dating back to October 2018.
  16. Hi all, I was just wondering whether the work experience element of the EOI only applies to post qualification experience? I completed my BSc Accounting and Finance in June 2015, I then completed a 3 year training contract with an accountancy firm to become an ACA chartered accountant in October 2018. Obviously, as an accountant the points requirements are in the 80's so I could do with all the extra points I can get. Cheers.
  17. That's brilliant news. Good luck for the rest of your application
  18. I might be misreading as I only had a quick look but I don't think any EOI's with less than 70 points are making it to an invitation. https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/working-in-australia/skillselect/invitation-rounds
  19. Did she become a member when she first qualified? The big accountancy firms generally pay for the first year's membership into the ICAEW.
  20. Just out of curiosity, how many points did you have a which skilled occupation did you apply under?
  21. Thank you both for your respective replies. Both have given me food for thought. I think, in order for my application to have a greater chance of success, I may have to go down either the 190 visa route (I believe I'll get an additional 5 points for NSW state sponsorship) or the internal transfer within my current firm. I guess this leaves - What's the job market like in non-Sydney NSW cities? Wollongong and Newcastle would be my first choices. - Has anyone gone down the 190 external audit/accountant route to NSW from the UK? Or has anyone done a secondment with big 4 firm which ultimately led to PR? Unfortunately, most of the jobs I see with my current firm in NSW are Financial Services Audit. This is renowned for having terrible hours and high staff turnover (hence the job adverts).
  22. Are the shares in public or private companies? If public, could you not just instruct a UK broker to sell the shares and wire you the funds? I am sure there are online brokers which can do this for you or high-street brokers in the UK where you can set it up over email/phone. I am still in the UK but most of my investments are with Vanguard - If I moved to Australia and I wanted to cash in on the UK investments I would just log on to the app, sell the shares/funds/ETF's and transfer the proceeds to my Australian bank account. The annual limit for CGT allowance in the UK is £11,700 for 2018/19 so, for me at least, no CGT would be due.
  23. Hi all, I have recently completed my ACA with the ICAEW here in the UK and I have just submitted my EOI for a 189 visa (External Auditor or Accountant General). I am expecting, or rather hoping, to have 70 skilled immigration points when it finally comes to applying. I am currently earning approximately £45,000 + bonus in the UK (before PAYE, NI, Benefits & Pension) working for one of the "big 4" in the Audit sector. I live with my partner in a 2-bed house, in the suburbs of quite an expensive city, and we pay £900 pcm rent. If my application is successful, my partner and I would like to move to either the Gold Coast or Wollongong. My concern is whether I could earn enough money to pay rent, put down a deposit, raise a family, and have a good standard of life (like I do in the UK). Indeed lists the average accountant salary in the aforementioned cities as $63,409 for GC (vs. the average of ~$51k) and $81,520 for the Gong (vs. the avg of ~$52k). Obviously, it's possible as I am sure there are accountants which have managed this in GC/Gong . Money/career/salary isn't my main focus - I just want to be confident that I can provide a decent standard of living for myself and my future family in Australia. If anyone can add any input on the following questions/concerns that'd be awesome. Cheers! - Is 70 points enough for 189 External Auditor/189 General Accountant? - What's the job market like for Auditors and/or first-time movers from practice into industry in GC/Gong? - Has anyone made the move from UK practice to Aus Industry directly? Any tips you can share? - I don't intend to be an auditor for the rest of my life (). Some of my colleagues who qualified with me have moved into Group Accountant/FP&A type roles within industry. What's the general attitude of Aussie employers towards people who have qualified and worked in the UK? It doesn't seem likely that I could rock up in Australia with no Australian work experience and land a job as Group Accountant. - I could do a secondment/transfer to the Gold Coast or Wollongong offices of my current firm but this ties me to the company and the audit sector - this is definitely an option but I'd rather do the more tradition 189 visa route (if possible). tldr: Can I move to Gold Coast/Wollongong with BSc Accounting & Finance, ACA, 4 years Big 4 experience and land a FP&A/Group Accountant role paying $80k+ per year?
  24. Hi all, This is my first post here, so go easy on me. Me and my girlfriend are looking to move (permanently) to Australia when I finish university and she finishes her training contract. I am currently studying Accounting and Finance BSc (my degree exempts me from 9 of 14 ACCA examinations - meaning I will have to complete 5 more exams after graduation to become a fully qualified accountant). My girlfriend is at work and studies towards and CLC (I think that's what it is called ) and she will be a qualified conveyancer with 4+ years work experience in 2 years time. The conveyancer occupation is on the Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List (CSOL) and the Accountant (general) is on the Skilled Occupation List. We are both in our early 20's, both UK passport holders, both speak fluent English and our aim is to be in Aus in 5 years time. What is our best route into Aus? If anyone could point us in the right direction we would be very grateful. - Would it be possible for us to apply without me being fully qualified? (i.e as soon as my better half has completed her CLC qualification) - Is the ACCA and the CLC recognised in Aus? (I know this is very specific) - Would going to aus on a "working holiday visa" with the intention of us both being sponsored be a good option? - Can we apply for permanent residency as a couple if we're not married? - Once we're 'qualified' do we need post qualification experience in order to receive the XX points for our application? Thanks for taking the time to read this. Cheers, Archi
