  1. Hey guys. We finally made it over here and have been having a blast for the last month and a half. Two of our kids are in Sunshine beach State High School and the younger 2 go to Noosaville State Primary. So far we're really happy about the decision to come to Noosa. It is expensive compared to the USA and especially when trying to set up a business. The are loving it and have found making friends very easy. They are all involved in sports, swimming lessons and surfing (yes even in the winter which is warm compared to what we are used to). The weather truly is fabulous! Shorts and t-shirts pretty much all the time. While waiting for the office to be ready I've been spending a lot of time 4x4ing along North Shore and doing a fair bit of surf fishing. It's so beautiful and relaxing that sometimes I have to pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming! I'm finally going to be ready to care for patients in the office on Monday. I'm located at the 205/90 Goodchap and the name is Laguna Bay Chiropractic. ( www.lagunabaychiropractic.com ). Come visit me if you need a good Chiro! If anyone is moving to Noosa and has any questions, hit me up. I'd be more than happy to answer any questions that I can regarding housing, recreation, kids, schools...etc.
  2. Hey thanks for the info! I'll check it out.
  3. Thanks so much for the info, I really appreciate it. We'll check those out. We finally just booked a hotel along the river in Noosaville for a week but I'd like to get into a house quickly as I hate to just be throwing money away.
  4. Alright Noosa people, we're having a hard time nailing down a house to lease. Everyone wants us to be physically present to do a walk through. I need advice on the best temporary, furnished housing to lease until we get to view a few homes and get into one of them. Any experience with this? Thanks in advance! We fly in on July 3rd!!!
  5. Thanks, Great info! Can I get your (or anyones) thoughts on businesses in the Noosa Civic???? I am considering leasing space there and I'm curious what the locals opinion is about going there or shopping there. Do people actually shop there? Is it busy? Would you say the Civic is considered a good place to have a business? Thanks
  6. Anyone in Noosa have a preference in cell phone companies?
  7. Finally have a date! We bought our tickets for July 1st !!! We can't wait to settle into living in Noosa.
  8. Thanks for this post! Lots of great info. We've been looking at Noosa Waters and wouldn't you know it, for the last 6 months there has been houses available and now that we are getting ready to move there is nothing! GRRRRR. Keep your eyes open for us, we're looking for a 4 bedroom in the 700pw price range.
  9. Luckily, I will be bringing my work with me which is good and bad. Opening a new business is always stressful and expensive but rewarding when it's up and running.
  10. Hey, KOKORO.... where do you recommend renting a house? We've been looking at Noosa Waters as well as Sunshine/Sunrise Beach. What do you recommend and why? Thanks
  11. Keep your chin up Pinkestlady! It'll happen and when it does you will savor the sweetness even that much more! The waiting sucks because your whole life is in limbo but it won't last forever. It won't be long now so find something positive to focus on 1- you're smart 2- you're educated 3- you've got the points 4- hey, if they let me in..... they'll definitely be inviting you!!! Good luck to you, we'll be crossing our fingers for you!
  12. Great replies guys and thanks for the advice. What do you figure about buying cars? I was thinking put a big chunk down on a car and make payments to start establishing some credit in Australia or am I better off just paying cash and buying outright? Any ideas on the best car in Oz for a family of 6? Pajero, Land Cruiser .... what else?
  13. Hey, I know I saw a checklist floating around here but I can't find it. I'm looking for advice on what to do after arrival .... day one and so on. Besides the obvious like get a house and telephone number, more of how to get set up for medicare, do I need a tax number and where to get it.... that type of stuff. Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks
  14. Hey, Purely speculation on my part here but I would upload it on your immi account and then email the CO to let him know that it's done. I imagine that would be sufficient and that's what I would do in your shoes. Good luck, it sounds like you're moving right along!
  15. Hey, did you see this thread? http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/queensland/228675-new-noosa.html This guy is living in Noosa and gave it quite a great review.
  16. What's up Neil, I'm looking at settling in Noosa as well. We're looking at moving sometime in June or July depending on how selling our house goes. Definitely keep in touch here and maybe we can get together for a BBQ. We have 4 kids, 17yof, 14yom, 11yom and 9yom. Looking forward to the nice weather, beaches, good people, fishing, scuba, 4x4 trips, camping and pretty much anything outdoors. Good luck my man!
  17. I remember when I looked at form 80 to fill it out in advance. 'Bout had a flippin' heart attack. Got through it though and it wasn't too bad. Glad to hear you have a CO and you're on a roll.
  18. Thanks Bobj, I can't wait to do some fishing there. The bar crossing looks like fun but we've a pretty rough bars in the Pacific Northwest. A lot of good salmon, halibut and tuna fishing here but ready for something different. I'm going back and forth on bringing my 20' Northriver Seahawk over. What do you think? A good boat for Queensland or am I better off waiting and buying on when I get there? http://dev.northriverboats.com/recreational-boats/boat-models/seahawkoutboard
  19. My ol' grandma used to tell me a story: A guy, fed up with his life, came across a beautiful town in during his travels. He bellied up to a bar there and asked the barkeep, "Sir, this is a beautiful town and I think I might like to settle down here, what are the people like that live here? " The bartender looks the man up and down and says " well, what were the people like where you came from?" to this the gentleman replies "that's why I'm looking to move, where I came from the people were all sons-o-bitches, I can't stand them so I'm moving to get away from them." The bartender then replies "well, all the people here are just like that, sons-o-bitches, best keep looking." The gentleman thanked the bar tender and went on in search for his own paradise. A few days later another man come into the same bar and asks the barkeep the same question. The bartender says "well, what were the people like where you came from?" The man replies "the people are awesome and I'm just moving to experience something new." The bartender replies "the people here are just like that! They are awesome and you'll love it here!" The gentleman thanked the bartender and enjoyed his new life in the new town with his new friends. Of course the moral of the story is, you'll find good folks and bad folks everywhere you go. What makes the difference is the baggage you carry with you. Remember, like attracts like so be what you want to attract and you'll find the people that are similar. I've traveled all over the work and found good, friendly, happy & accepting people wherever I go and Australia was no exception!
  20. Pinkestlady, If anyone deserves to have it come through today it's you! We'll be sending super positive energy your way! You'll be popping the cork on that champagne in no time
  21. Hi everyone, My wife and I will be moving to the sunshine coast around June/July. We were just granted a 189 visa. We're bringing our 4 kids with us, ages 17g, 13b, 11b & 9b. We're pretty excited and can't wait to jump into a new adventure in OZ! The kids can't wait to take surf lessons, pet kangaroos (at the zoo I guess), camp and explore. My wife and I love socializing, camping, fishing, scuba and working. We'd love to meet some of you all when we get there! We fell in love with Noosa and spent several weeks there last year. That's where we're looking at settling down..... I know, I know .... It's expensive, so on and so forth but we love it!
  22. You're very welcome! It's so fun to see your line turn GREEN!
  23. Huh, weird. When I originally did it you could see the input info right away. Maybe it's been changed so an administrator reviews it first Any one else have any ideas???

  25. Gosh dang! That's an expensive quote. I just saw that you are from Calgary. Not too many ports close by so that might be part of it. I was born in Magrath and have tons of family in Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer and Lethbridge. Nice place up there..... Can see why Australia is appealing US Chiros are licensed primary care physicians. The D.C. program here is equivalent to an M.D. degree as far as time in school and education (obviously there are differences in the programs, they get more toxicology and drug related education and we get more ortho and physical diagnosis). In Australia, the chiropractic licensing program is a bachelors degree program not a doctorate so they just have a 4 year degree in chiropractic vs the average American chiro has a 4 year degree BEFORE even going to chiropractic school. There are good docs and bad docs everywhere but from and education standpoint I would recommend a US educated Chiropractor. I am going to miss my Vitamix too. So sad, but I'm sure they have them there. I'll have to save some more pesos.
