  1. Hi We are returning back to the UK after 6 months due to serious health issues with a family member back in the UK. I need advise as we moved all our goods over with us including my husbands tools. All the tools have the EU stamp on them that proves they were brought in the UK originally but I have to declare these on the customs form along with the price paid and how long they have belonged to my husband. He has only purchased one item of tools from AU and will declare this on the form. I need advise on if they will try to add tax to the tools purchased in the UK if we cannot proof that they were brought there? THANKS

Hi I have told him that I have set a date for us to review the situation after Christmas and if we feel that we are not ready to decide at this time then we just simply move the date forward. From doing this he has told me that he feels a lot better knowing that we can decide in a few months. I guess its just preparing your mind that its not forever. I have really bad days but most of the time have been upbeat and positive (even though I cant find work and spend most days sitting round the house looking at all the bare walls and surroundings. I have got myself out and met friends and listen to others and also researched the homesickness so know what to expect. Its very easy to put the UK rose coloured glasses on I guess!!!

Hi All We have been here only 12 weeks and not even got our furniture yet. Six weeks after arriving my husbands uncle suddenly passed away leaving us heartbroken as we just wasn't expecting it. My hubby decided he needed to go back for the funeral as he only has mum dad son and gran as family. Since arriving back from the UK he has been really unsettled and feeling like he wants to go home. He doesn't like his job here and I think he now realises that family are precious and we are all on borrowed time. He was the one who wanted to come over to Oz and it was always his dream. I went along for the ride and thought it would be fun to give it a whirl (after all we can come back if its not what we wanted). We left behind 3 grown up sons but we miss them dearly and we are a close family. I would happily go back tomorrow but I'm also happy to stay and try it a little longer, even though I cant get a job, but I know my husbands heart isn't in it no more and he worries for his gran who is 90 in December and she's lost two sons now I'm not sure if he's dealing with homesickness or grief or both but he's deeply unhappy which makes me unhappy. I miss my family dearly but speak on the phone every day. If he's this sad should we just head home as I cant see him getting better as he sees Oz as a bad experience now due to the bereavement we had so soon after getting here. He's normally a very positive person so this is unlike him but I suppose it doesn't help that we have no furniture or home surroundings. Anyone else been in similar circumstances, After some advice really
  6. Hi all my husband and I moved over here 10 weeks ago and currently living in caloundra. We are looking to meet up with fellow sunny coasters around this area if anyone fancies a meet thanks xx
  7. Hi my two small Yorkshire terriers arrived in quarantine Wednesday 29th June and release date is 9th July. I've received confirmation from peq and also from dogtainers with release details and where to pick up from at Brisbane airport. It all went pretty smoothly and spoke to quarantine who informed me they are well and sharing a pen. Im not sure if anyone else has been worried but I have actually made myself Ill worrying about them. Can anyone advise if their dogs were ok on release? I'm beside myself with worry! Thanks
  8. Thanks for replying I cant believe how nerve racking it all is. I am trying to bulk mine up a little at the minute as they are both tiny and really cant afford to lose much weight, my smallest is only 1.9kg so you can imagine how little she really is. I guess I will have a few days of sulking when they arrive in Brisbane but once they have been to the beach a few times it will all be forgotten. I just don't want them to get so stressed it makes them ill on the way. Hope you are settling in ok
  9. Thank you for that, My youngest one is the same she never leaves my side and just wants to be with me all the time. I've been told it gets cold in Melbourne and may need to send over little jackets for them. Did you need to do this? Its really reassuring when others tell me their dogs were fine, I cant help but worry but I know deep down they will be looked after. Did they allow your dogs to share in quarantine? as they have advised that this may not be the case with mine.
  10. Hi I have two really small nervous dogs who are due to fly over to Brisbane via 10 days Melbourne stay in quarantine, later this month. I already have the crate at home and have been getting the dogs to go in at albeit begrudgingly. I am worried sick for them both as they never normally leave my side except when I'm at work. I have read many stories saying the animals are never the same once they have been in quarantine etc. How was other peoples animals after a stint in the cells? Do they forgot pretty quickly? I'm also getting so worked up about the flights over as they leave before us and I know its going to break my heart dropping them off
  11. Oh thank you Calngary yes we will have a healthy account to keep us going until we find work, hopefully my hubby will get something pretty quick but was unsure if they allowed you to rent until you have proof of earning. Is it pretty easy to get rental as I've heard a few horror stories?
  12. Hi All My husband has been given a 489 visa for Queensland and we are due to move out on 27th June. As he has no work lined up yet, will this hold us up in applying for rentals. I have found us somewhere to stay for the first month but will need to start looking for rentals as soon as we get there. He will also be looking for work straight away but just wondered if this may cause problems if he doesn't get work straightaway? Thanks is advance
  13. Hi Pom Queen I have found a place on Gumtree AU but when I send messages over form the UK it not accept them as I am not in Australia? Is there a way around this do you know? Cheers
  14. Hi Mickyb Just wondering if your are taking joiners on at the minute? My husband will be arriving in June and already has a visa. He will be avaialble to start more or less straightaway. Many Thanks

Hi Cherry We are using jets4pets as they have let the dogs travel in the same crate without a divider as they are both really small. Sam at the company has been very helpful and talks me through it to try and reassure me but I am literally having panic moments every time I think about it God knows what I'm going to be like on the day. My dogs are really fussy eaters and not very often eat dry food so its going to be hard on them. The thing with yorkies are they usually are very fussy eaters so I'm expecting some weight loss although my oldest is only 2kg so really cant afford for her to lose weight. Who are you using?

Hi verystormy, Just wondering as quarantine is not involved when coming back to the UK, was that why your dog was allowed out? I'm not sure when travelling over to Oz if the crates are allowed to be opened until arrival at the quarantine station. If this is the case the dogs have a layover at Dubai for 7 hours and in total that's 30 hours travel and this is a very long time for dogs to be penned up?This is whats worrying me more than anything

Aww I'm same its horrible I keep waking up from dreams seeing their little faces terrified in their crate. Only dog lovers will understand the pain we feel. They are my best friends and I'm sending them to a prison camp

Thank you so much for this advice verystormy! it has helped me a little as I am worried sick for them. My husband is usually matter of fact about it but I've even managed to get him worrying about them lol. My biggest worry is that they will forget me when they come out of quarantine as 10 days for a dog is a very long time. I'm also worried about how they will cope with the noise on the plane. I think I am over worrying as I have been told they are resilient and cope better than humans.

Hi I have just received confirmation for both my small yorkies to travel in June this year. I am worried sick for them both as they never normally leave my side for more than a few hours. Is there anything you can put in their crate to keep them calm? They are travelling together so will have a little comfort. Also are they allowed out of the crate at all between flights for a breather and toilet? From experience when you collect your dogs after quarantine do they actually forgive you for putting them through this I'm sure they will be traumatized by it all! Do the vets check to make sure they can cope with it as mine are really timid Any advice would be greatly received Thanks
  21. Yes that's true. Do you think we could find rental n get in before the 10 days?
  22. Hi we are heading caloundra way. Not got any jobs or place to stay sorted yet. Just arriving and looking as soon as we get there. My hubbys a joiner so hopefully will find something pretty quick.
  23. Hi All Me and my hubby are moving over to Sunshine coast in May this year and will be bringing 2 very small dogs with us. I need to know where do you stay when you first arrive as most of the holiday lets I have looked at are pretty costly. Can anyone advise on which company to best use who allow dogs and is furnished. Also could anyone please advise on how long you usually have to stay in serviced apartments before you find rental? My husband has thought about coming over before me to sort everything out but I am reluctant to travel on my own when bidding farewell to family as my emotions will be all over the place. Many Thanks in advance Lisa
  24. Hi My hubby is a carpenter he was asking if its hard to find work out there we are heading to sunshine coast. We are coming over to visit in May with the hope of him putting feelers out for some work so he can start work as soon as we arrive, we are hoping to move over in March next year? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
