  1. Thanks, but I’ve contacted the (registered) migration agent that assisted me, and have been assured the following. Feel free to prove your suspicions on my motives 🙂

I have not heard of any SC190 visas being cancelled due to not living/working in the state that sponsors them.  I also doubt this is the case as your visa (SC190) has no conditions on it that restrict you in any way.

In order for a visa to be cancelled under 'Subdivision C - Visas based on incorrect information may be cancelled ' the information used to complete the application would need to be proven to be incorrect at that time.  This was not the case for you.

  2. I have been living in Australia for nearly 3 years, but not in the state which sponsored my 190. I found a job by chance in another state while initially living with relatives when I arrived. The job was basically perfect, right by relatives.

Since I have gone over the 2 year stay in the sponsoring state, would I also be subject to potential revocation of my visa?

    Hey Raul

I've been in AU for 3 years now, home owner for two of those. I don't live in my sponsored state, as I found a job near immediately when I first came over while staying with some family.

I realise you cannot guarantee anything, but after 3 years, do you think I'm fairly safe?

  5. Hey guys n gals

Bunch of jobs opening in the company I work for, for those already in AU. Publicly available adverts, but message me directly with your job role interested, and I'll get it to the right people ?

Like to take your career further and be closer to the beach - The Sunny coast is the best place to live in the entire Australia, fact ?

    Hello everyone,

I'm a young analyst programmer (5 years of experience) who's planning on moving to Melbourne at the end of this year. I'm in a bit of a niche market, since I'm currently working in the AS400 / IBM i domain.

I'm actively looking for a job on multiple job sites, and applying to jobs both in my field and just low level analyst jobs. But I'm not seeing a lot of feedback. Is it normal for agents not to respond when you're still abroad?

I must admit that going through this forum is not improving my confidence. We have enough savings for a prolonged job search / vacation, but that's not something I particularly enjoy.

As a silly side-question: is there any specific Australian IT lingo I should be aware of?

    Thanks in advance,

Sorry for what seems to be a blunt question, but, why hamstring yourself with such antiquated tech, especially as a young developer? Are you only really interested in working for Financial institutes for the rest of your life?

You waited 4 years or some waited even more 6 years .. I believe you should wear a nice suit or business dress. It worth it and you have to be honoured. In the ceremony they always saying we are proud of our culture and where we came from . So it is nice to wear a nice dress that's shows you are proud too .. I think it is embarrassing for peopl who wear a casual dress . It is a great day show some respect for your own citizenship and take a pic . God bless Australia ??

For these exact reasons (honouring tradition and respecting the Aussie way of life) - i'll be wearing a Tshirt and thongs ;)

  8. Hey guys n gals

At the risk of getting spammed, I thought I'd reach out and give any kickass Business Analysts on here a chance to join us on the Sunshine coast QLD. We're really looking for someone very specific - call it an "Agile BA". Someone who has worn a couple different hats before / Technical PM / Scrum Master / Business Systems analyst.

We’re looking for someone to hold a laser-focused view of the development process, from ideation through development and delivery to support. We’d love someone who has the breadth of experience to be able to cherry-pick from their arsenal of tools to produce the right outcome based on the teams needs. We need someone who will argue like they're right and listen like they're wrong, all while striving for the best possible business outcome.

    PM me if that's you.

    Hi Supercow,

2 years later and I find your post very helpful. However, I am still undecided which one to go for, as I think I have skills in both. So, may I ask how long you took to prepare for your PTE test? I need to be realistic on time frame , but am a bit limited with test dates around, so in the end which one I goes for might be determined by which date works best for me.

Also, the basic book you bought  [I think I saw somewhere in the threads - would you say that is enough for a quick turn around time? I am wondering whether the marked mock tests packages is worth it...

Anyway, I guess you are so relieved it is over.....and not writing this post!

    Thanks!

Hey JH, it sure is a relief being on this side of the fence!

2 years ... wow, it feels like a different person wrote that, and in many respects that is the case!

I've never been the most thorough student, and it also applied to my PTE preparation, it's a character flaw of mine :P I "knew" my English ability is excellent, therefore I didn't feel the need to do any studying in the strictest sense of the word. I read through the question types' explanation and  did the mock tests twice, just so that I understand the question format and what I could expect to happen in the exam. I also re familiarised myself with the general "template" I'd use for the long form essay (Introduction / supporting and secondary point / elaboration / wind down / outtro & conclusion).

  10. I'd like to thank @Kirstyj and @supercow for suggesting the other half try ielts after failing badly on the speaking on Pte. He got his result today on ielts and scored 9, 8, 8.5, 8.5 so thank you for your suggestion super happy he did much better on the ielts.

    Great!

Happy it all worked out :)

Thank you all for this thread!!

I would not have tried PTE without you.

I 'failed' IELTS with an 8.5 average, with a sad 7.5 in writing.

I tried the PTE academic yesterday and got my results today:

90 average; with 90 in writing, listening and reading and 89 in speaking!

I am so happy this is over. I strongly recommend the PTE, unless you struggle with timing and are not very fast in answering. Then the IELTS might be the better choice.

    Have a good day!

Yeeew, stoked to hear and happy my initial misery could help :)

  11. So frustrating. Husband re-took his PTE, again failed on speaking even after doing loads of practice, watching youtube videos, reading books etc. He scored 80s in all other sections, how can we get his speaking up :-( He keeps scoring in the 50s when his English born, no idea what to do to bring his speaking score up.

How's his enunciation / where's he from in the UK?

I ask that, because many English accent sound like the speak is "swallowing their words", for the lack of a better term. Maybe IELTS might be a better option for him, as the speaking is face to face?

  12. I had to sell my motocross bike last year when I first got injured to help pay the bills.

anyhow I struggle to bend over and tie my laces, theres no way I could ride a dirt bike these days. I am contemplating a push bike though to just ride on flat roads

Cycling (all forms of it) , is a very sociable sport / activity. I can highly recommend doing exactly that. Go to your local bike shop and ask if they do regular shop rides. You don't need any top of the range bike to get your started and you'll find your social circle growing quickly.

  13. With your financial situation and health issues, I guess this is a bit of a redundant question … but, are you getting out on the MX bike at all? I’ve not had nearly the same run of bad luck as you, but I know what it is to feel lonely and empty, even though I had a girlfriend (who then became my wife) at the time.

See, I was mortally unhappy in the UK, until I was able to find something that made me happy. In my case it was Downhill mountain bike riding / racing, and I made the best mates I could have asked for through it. Many of these mates also rode crossers… so I know the kind of people you meet in those circles.

Find something that makes you happy, preferably a hobby shared with others … and the rest will fall into place

  14. Hello Supercow,

Thankyou ever so much for sharing your experiences with both IELTS and PTE Academic.

After reading your post I decided PTE Academic was the way to go and booked a test for 23/09/2016.

I received my results yesterday and I am so happy!:notworthy:

So once again thankyou for a brilliant and informative post:ssign19:

Yeewww, congrats mate... only a pleasure :)

  15. The last line is what I am looking for - we want to start a family when we move and one of the main things is the ease of outdoor life and family things (camping, beaches etc etc) unfortunately the weather makes a lot of things so difficult to plan and do.

I am excited... just got to break the news to family..

    xx

    Outdoorsy you say?

Very small snippet of random shenans of my family and I.

So much free stuff to do ... the above is only scratching the surface of what we've been up to ... kicking myself for not always having my GoPro on me.
