  1. Alan, you might need warmer clothing for Thursday if this report is right! Snow?! http://www.973fm.com.au/newsroom/get-ready-for-snow-australia

Brrrrrr mind you my flight lands at midday, my 1.5 interview hour slot is at 1pm, then straight back to the airport, so hopefully the pace of things will keep me warm enough, but thanks for the heads up. 3 tshirts and long socks might just do it! :biglaugh: Always a good interview look methinks!

  2. gosh that was quick Steely, looks really nice, not far from us in Jindalee or to the golf club or Joondalup shops .How cold it is here at night that fire looks good too. Try telstra for your internet, sometimes you have to bite the bullet , we did, got optus for the mobiles and they are useless. Just have a problem with them over the EPL next season. happy new home to you both.

Hi @odies, yes we liked the feel and tranquility of Connolly, and the golf course being so close is a big bonus, once my clubs arrive. The pool is something Karen, my wife wanted, I'm sure its a fund drainer, but in the early days, making her comfortable and happy is key, and anything to help stop us both feeling homesick, is worth paying for I reckon.

With the train system close by we can be in CBD quickly too! If you fancy a beer sometime, let me know!

  3. Thanks for all the comments and advice, after reading @Skeelsy about bugs etc etc, I fear I will never read another letter in the postbox ever again, and if there was ever something to help me lose some weight, it's the bugs in the pantry! As for the advice on the broadband, thanks to all, we will visit a store to see what they can offer, but as I said worse case scenario is wait till IMMI say yes! (If they don't now, then e600 and a one year holiday begins!)

  4. The good news today is, we have moved into our new home in Connelly. First backwards step also today, Optus have now decided to decline our request for internet and phone services, which as we had been approved via an on-line salesman, was unexpected. They don't say why, but I suspect it's the fact we are on a visitors visa! Not to worry, upwards and onwards!

  5. Hi all. I am beginning to feel my 'drama queen' propensity has kicked in. An underlying heart condition kicked in due to the stress doc reckons and I have been under medical care for a week but getting better. Our sons uk police check through up a problem - some trouble he got into without our knowledge - he didn't want to admit to it as knew pain it would cause - stupid boy knew we would understand but didn't want to hurt us after all this time as happened when he was 14/15. So now Immi making us wait up to 40 days for further info on the details of the warning Harri received even though they freely admit won't affect our meeting criteria and is just a formality. Looks like my husbands job offer he had lined up is going to be withdrawn. Well positive note is one less family skeleton in the cupboard to find and at least I have had medical and passed before this recent relapse. Kim

Best wishes Kim, stay strong and healthy!

  6. Hi Alan,

Glad to hear your settling in to you new life, perhaps you could answer a couple of questions for me.

You say you have bought a car, can you tell me if your able to do that on a temporary visa and holding a British driving licence, and register it, and insure it in your name, before you get your 143 visa granted.

Hi, so far we have done everything on visitor visa, and only had to show either driving license or passport to prove who we are. We are paying 6 months rent upfront, which in a stalled rental market, added massive sway to our lease agreement! By the way, thats not my opinion of the rental market, this was said by 3 of the 5 real estate agents we met!

  7. Hi Alan

Glad to hear you are getting sorted, hopefully your visa will be through shortly. Not sure if you have answered this query earlier, but have you been asked for the form 80, if so at what stage?

I am flying out in November and hope we can meet for a drink and I can download your experiences and recommendations on various matters........cheeky I know.........but experience helps,

Hi, we haven't been asked for anything yet but requested form 80, and completed these a few weeks back. Gone all in, going to look rather foolish if we are refused now :elvis:

Happy to meet for a drink anytime!

  8. Quick update for those still in the waiting room. After 10 days in Perth we have secured a rental, and move in on Wednesday, purchased a small run about car, purchased a Nissan Pathfinder, bought new furniture, new white goods, ordered new phones & broadband, been asked to leave a beach in Scarborough, as we were walking our sons dog, on the wrong beach! yep been busy, but it also took our thoughts away from the slow moving IMMI progress

  9. The weather is glorious in Cornwall and I'm still sorting stuff out for the move, the paperwork is relentless! The removal company start this Friday and finish next Tuesday. The goodbyes have started and I'm finding it really hard. it's exciting and scary at the same time. Cornwall is pulling at my heartstrings and I don't want to leave, oh my there go the tears again.... Just have to get through this. Is it just me? I can't believe this is so hard. I know it will be worth it in the end but hadn't realised how difficult this would be.

    Julie

It is that hard, we did all this over the last couple of weeks so cry those tears, let them roll, then once on the plane, have a drink or three, relax, and start your new life. I mean here we are less than a week in, living the dream having just got our Flybuys discount cards, purchased our Entertainment discount book........... what more can you want from life? Bring it on Perth!!

  10. Hello Alan,

We were also looking for an investment property north of Perth last weekend. Make sure you negotiate (if you are buying) and don't get carried away by comments that the agent makes.

    Cheers and good luck

Cheers for the advice @Bear2015.... initially looking to rent, and I'm in sales, so anyone dealing with me, always gets a smooth pleasant ride when I'm buying! I would also advise negotiating if renting, we were told yesterday by an English rental agent, that the rental market in the Joondalup area is dead on its feet at the moment, music to my ears!

  11. Hope all is still ok @Skeelsy

We have had a full bank holiday weekend here in Perth, and have been cruising around the area, looking at different places we might want to settle in, and had 2 viewings today North of Perth, around the Joondalup area. The estate agent pictures sure are different to the actual places though! Coldest day in Perth in the last five years today too! Typical

  12. Hi Alan

looks like you have got off to a great start in Perth. If you don't mind me asking how long has it taken to arrange the AOS? Only another 6 more processing days for IMMI get to you!

    Julie

Hi Julie, from my son going to centre link, to paying the AOS it has taken 4 weeks, but that includes a delay due to circumstances his end, but now done, fingers crossed everything is lined up for IMMI to assess.

  13. Thanks for the thanks! Jersey Boys was indeed a top choice to watch. Pity the same couldn't be said for the railways, with cancelled trains and delays, but now back at the hotel, last minute packing changes, before being picked up at 9.30am tomorrow. Right now, who gives a fig for the visa process? That sentiment will change early next week, I'm sure. See you on the other side people :cute:

  14. Thanks Alan, I think we are okay then as they said if we don't hear anything all will be well. I might email the clinic anyway. One step closer at least and we had a nice trip to London for it. Can't wait for the next flight we have to take now, to Sydney :-) I'm sure time can't go fast enough for you now with your leaving date so close, how lucky!!

    Amanda

We were told all is ok if we heard nothing, but still wanted to see results, and a massive pressure taken away once we saw them! Enjoy Sydney when you get there. As you say our flights out are ever closer, which brings a smile to our faces, pity without 143 though, but all good things etc etc ?
