  1. Ah yes, before I moved here, I was told by a lot of people that the produce here is amazing...erm...its like anywhere else in the world. I think, I'm just feeling a bit let down that a lot of the claims of a great life in Sydney are actually just that, tall claims and this is nothing but the most expensive megapolis in the world...
  2. Hello, There is no deeper unhappiness at play here :-). If I had to deal with the issues I raised above, I did not have to move here, I could have just moved to London, though admittedly I'd not have had these issues in London as I enjoyed living in the UK as a whole. I know Oz works out for a lot of people, I'm talking about Sydney in particular. Having lived around the world, I don't see what Sydney has to offer which is superior to other global cities. The beach lifestyle cannot be afforded in Sydney by everyone unless you are willing to live in really tiny apartments OR are very rich. I just wanted to get my frustrations off my chest for bit, that is all.
  3. I second Go Matilda, they did a great job help my wife and I get our PRs.
  4. Moved here to Sydney from sunny UK (I'm not British, was living in the UK for a while) and I must admit I'm not enjoying it at all. I hate the houses available on rent here. The old constructions, the ransoms for rent, the insane traffic, the distance to everything, I'm hating it... I've lived and worked in 4 countries apart from Oz and of them all I'm just not liking it here. I hate to feel this way. I don't see what the point of moving here was...bah... edit: The traffic here has caught me by surprise. It clear the infrastructure was not built for the population this city has at the moment. I've looked at over 10 houses to rent and each and every one of them is either too old or just in a very noisy location. I urge anyone looking to move here to come and take a look see before making the move. Come here and apart from the touristy stuff, look at rentals, drive around and get a feel of what your life will be like. Had I done this, I doubt I'd have come over...
  5. Hello Folks, I'm moving to Oz in January 2015 and need to get started on transferring my savings. I currently bank with HSBC. Perusing the forums here, I tend to get the impression that they prefer NAB over here? Has anyone used HSBC? What was your experience like? Thanks, Mehman
  6. Theres a subreddit for sydney. Here you go: http://www.reddit.com/r/SydneyMotorcycles/
  7. We are moving in Jan to Oz, but possibly require storage from October this year to say March next year. Not a lot of stuff to be honest. We're quite the minimalists. Could anyone recommend a company that provided storage and moving to Oz? Any estimates on the costs involved? We're based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Cheers, M
  8. Hello, My wife and I plan to move to Sydney around mid December and are on the lookout for a short term rental in the city. 2-3 months would be ideal. Ideally close to the CBD, but thats not a deal breaker. Any ideas how we can go about looking for one? AirBnB seems very costly. Cheers, M
  9. Thanks. We need to enter before the last week of January. I reckon we'll try get in somewhere around mid-December and use the month and a half we get to kinda settle in I suppose.
  10. Thanks Jessica. What is the IT job market like in Adelaide?
  11. Hi Jessica, Sydney. We're both in the financial IT sector and thats where we see the job opportunities for us.
  12. Folks, My wife and I are planning to move down under in the second week of December. We're thinking, most companies won't be hiring in this period and it might give us a month or two to acclimatize. When does the job market pick up in the new year? I'm guessing places like Sydney must be in full festive mode during mid December to mid Jan? ANy advice for us on the timing of our move? Both of us are IT professionals. Cheers, M
  13. Folks, Does anyone have an idea of what the job market is like for IT in the financial sector? I've got many years of front office trading IT experience. Looking online, the market looks a bit thin.... Cheers, M
  14. Folks, Does anyone have any experience in Finance Technology? Whats the scene like for jobs in the front office etc? Cheers, MM
  15. If you see my timelines, I lodged my visa way back in December. Give it time, I know I was losing my mind with all the waiting, but it will work out!
  16. ACS +ve assessment: Nov 2013. EOI accepted: 2nd Dec 2013. Visa Lodged: 12 Dec 2013 CO assigned: 27 Jan 2013. Meds: Feb 2013. Needed PCCs from 3 countries so that took a while. Finally grant on the 25th!
  17. I got a response from my CO last Friday, he wanted more information from a previous job. Patience is the key here.
  18. I agree with you Lucerad, if you check the occupation ceilings, almost none have been breached...
  19. Thats pretty neat dude. Real fast. I lodged my Visa in December, got a CO late Jan. In my case its the multiple PCCs that are causing all the delays.
  20. Congrats cruzfish! What were your timelines?
  21. that is only for 'invitations'. We are all beyond that phase, we've been invited already.
