  1. Not really, your not getting out of that one ! Luxury is not working hard towards something, cutting back, scrimping and saving every penny you can , Cutting out all the " premium" stuff . Footballers and some on here live a life of luxury , I have never and probably never will fly business class , but I will migrate on a budget more realistic to most !
  2. Bull , some of work and save years for the chance of a better life !
  3. The original post was " true cost to migrate " which is kind of my point. I quote you "Far, far, far more than you expect. Even when you budget really carefully" . ...your migration is far from the normal cost , as you can afford more you spent more !
  4. Nice if you can afford it , but most cannot .. It's a luxury!
  5. your presuming were all stupid enough to enter contract's, when thinking about emigrating??...and yeah the normal person would take a biz class flight ( champagne anyone!) in that situation!...exclude all common sense I think you mean!...no offence intended. I recognise you didn't plan the move...hence why i though it was a great post, for those thinking of moving . all in all, about £30K diff ( not much ) , I've planed everything, and went on a pre visit and have shipped dogs in my costs...you went on what could only be described as a bender and spent 50K!!
  6. I've so far spent £17,000 getting to OZ , that includes visas, a 2 week reccie for a family of four , one way tickets this august and shipping over two dogs. I estimate another £10,000 ($20,000) to get setup in oz with furniture, rental deposits and a cheap run around and I've booked an apartment for 4 weeks for the cost of $2,000. So about £27-30K in all to migrate. And I've done it as cheap as possible!
  7. Sorry Andrew, but I've got to say that your story is like "how not to migrate" . You spent so much..your move seemed impulsive, but thanks for sharing...great story and it will help lots of people
  8. Thanks Iron Chef - I like the X trail, will add that to the list of potentials
  9. I don't think you'll find cheaper than Airbnb, its certainly the cheapest option out there...and most hosts offer 15 to 25 % discount for a 4 week stay. and don't forget some have flexible a cancellation policy...we found a few places, apartments and granny flats ( not a 5 star hotel, i know) for less than $2000 for 4 weeks...that's cheap, in my opinion.
  10. i don't have a job as yet , so just wanted something to see us thought the first year . Something that's that's decent and Fairly cheap . Will probably get two news cars once I'm settled .
  11. I got the feeling that Australians don't rate ford much ..Found On Rubbish Dump..was a quote i heard. Obviously the are very popular in the UK (owned a few myself over the the years), but aren't parts expensive for them in OZ?
  12. thanks, they look a decent option ...although there's not to many of them available on the Gold Coast below $10k with less than 200k miles.
  13. Hello, We're moving to the Gold Coast soon and have started to look into used Cars avaible to buy. To begin with I'd like to buy a used SUV, preferably an auto with enough room for a family of 4 and two small dogs. Can anyone offer advise on a good SUV, that's cheap for parts, repair and is reliable? I've seen a couple of cheap ones which I've never heard of , like the Great Wall X240 and the Chery J11..I've read some dodgy reviews about the latter, but the X240 has decent reviews, but I've read parts aren't easily available? http://www.productreview.com.au/p/great-wall-x240-2010-present.html I've seen loads of 2010 Great Wall SUV's available for under $6000...Seems very cheap

  15. Hi, My daughter had the wrong passport number on her visa but we never noticed until we checked in at the airport when departing to Brisbane, the attendant noticed and phoned immigration immediately and they corrected the mistake straight away and allowed us to fly..this was also reflected on the visa afterwards. I also emailed Immi on my return and they confirmed the changes. Note sure if this helps, but i hope it should be easily resolved
  16. Ashmore palms has been recommended to me a few times https://www.ashmorepalmsgoldcoast.com.au/
  17. 2.6 would be amazing....but can't see it happening. I'd be very happy with 2.3
  18. I have an account ready and waiting. This time last year I thought if i could get a rate of 2.0 that would be very good, now I'm wondering if 2.3 is possible!
  19. Snap, i don't know if the rate will get much better than this.....its tempting
  20. Can anyone recommended a good local hire shop for Surf, SUP , Body Board and kayak hire with Lessons. Preferably the Southern gold coast areas, Burleigh or Currumbin as we are stopping in Burleigh Heads. I've found a few on tinter web, but any recommendations would be great.
