Hello, need some advise on the type of visa I should apply for, I'm looking at the following: My vocation is on the SOL option 1 Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) I only score 50 points 33–39 years - 25 Points Competent English - 0 points In skilled employment for at least eight and up to 10 years (of the past 10 years) - 15 points An award or qualification recognised by the assessing authority in the assessment of the skilled occupation - 10 Points this means i will have to complete the IELTS test, to gain an extra 10 points. cant see any other way, my Wife is a self employed Photographer. Option 2 - same issue as Option 1 i only Score 50 Points! Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) 33–39 years - 25 Points Competent English - 0 Point In skilled employment for at least eight and up to 10 years (of the past 10 years) -15 points An award or qualification recognised by the assessing authority in the assessment of the skilled occupation - 10 the option is there for the Nomination/sponsorship , but i don't understand this part? I think my best option is 1 Subclass189 - should i look at any other visa subclasses?

I agree, if i could i would go sooner, but Work commits us in the UK until 2016. I think I'll just see how it all works, out...long way to go yet, but i will push on with applications

I'm starting to question my own belief that I need a pre-visit , i can do all the research i need on the internet. Certainly would save me a a chunk of money!

Just to Confirm , as someone has already suggested that once the visa is validated I have five years to actually make the move?

ali - not got my head around which visa i need yet! Any advise on which Visa we need would be great Quinkla - it would be a pre-move visit really, not a holiday - to check out Suburbs, houses , Schools Etc Don't I need to visit to Validate the visas?

No never visited before, and a very good point. We might hate it! I'm 90% sure we will like it though, i have friends that have migrated to Oz...some have returned home, some have stayed. Myself and the wife are well travelled, i understand the risks...but we want to go for it!

nic1171, are you saying you didn't visit before migrating? ...yep it is a lot of money!

Ohhhh thanks for the reply, that's interesting...so i could go though the process , go on holiday for two weeks in 2015 ( activate) and then look to move in 2016?

Hi, we have decided ( wife + 2 kids) that we want to move to OZ, but this will not be until 2016...due to my wife's work commitments. My own Position is on the skills list, my Wife is self employed. my Questions is : is it too early for me to start the process ? I need to take the Skills test and complete the EOI...but then how long long will the process take?
