1. [h=2]retiring back to UK[/h] hi there after a stressful waiting for UK tax advice from an expert here in OZ, in our case, should or COULD we move back to the UK after 38 years here, with no tax connections left there, it seems the concept known here as "self funded retiree" is NOT KNOWN in any way, shape or form in UK! I cannot believe the complicated UK tax structure for S F R's and it would seem in our initial reading and trying to understand this advice that in no way would we be able to live as comfortably ( NOT WEALTHILY ) as we do here.. I am wondering how some of you fellow forumites have managed to contemplate, let alone move back to the UK in ones early 60'S!!! We had been rather hoping against hope that we would be able to do so too, but it seems the UK tax department does not look upon people without access to any form of OZ or UK pensions, and who try and live without recourse to the state very favourably! Perhaps one needs to be a wealthy Russian Oligarch!! feeling somewhat shattered and sad! thanks for your input.

 3. so sorry buddy4 cant come up with your criteria as they're exactly the reason we, a pom with oz citizenship and an aussie with irish citizenship want to return to a life in the UK we are in a different age era no doubt than you, but i would opt for Melbourne, and thats from a sydney born and bred gal..good luck
 4. well personally i wouldnt go Penrith way, ghastly heat, traffic as is anywhere on a sydney commute is appalling, so looking at western side of Lake Macquarie with access from the now named M1! If you are working in Sydney you could look further down towards the city/suburbs at Central Coast area. Any reasons for Lake macquarie/and or the Penrith area….. to avoid the heat of the Western suburban plain of Penrith you might consider just a few klms further to the foothills of the Blue Mountains, bushfires not withstanding!
 5. Hi there, all depends on where your jobs are. This is the main thing as you are giving 2 very widely spaced areas as a choice!!! Remember distances for commuting are far far different …
 6. [h=2][/h] we are both 60 retired, self funded retirees in OZ both have joint Oz/UK and Irish EU passports, and contemplating returning to Uk. Been here 37 years, with many trips back, and not entitled to any UK benefits. Just trying to work out if it can be done, what are the tax implications, as we have a modest australian share portfolio and live from that, not entitled to government pension, and own moderately priced home in a rural NSW town. So not sure where to start to enquire about this process. If all shares are fully franked here in OZ, can we leave them here, transfer the income from them to a UK bank account but would we be taxed AGAIN in UK. From reading UK Govt Tax dept site its very confusing. (the term self funded doesnt exist in UK!) any pointers as to where we can get good legitimate advice that would say once and for all, either forget it or enquire further. Many thanks
 7. cheers to you both. yes we realise all of the above, and in the need for advice in UK as well. Guess we're in that very EARLY thought process..perhaps it may all get too much huh…?

i posted a message under title "query" on weekend re financials and Andy replied that a moderator should transfer it into the Money and Finance forum . as i have only just joined Poms in Oz wasnt too sure where that forum was..now found and note my Query isnt on there. He had suggested it was out of his area of expertise and mentioned someone else. Can you help as i cant seem to find how to post it there on above forum myself.

 9. must be a hot day here in NSW staying indoors and on here, many thanks will keep an eye out. both of us have done alot of investigating on here, but we seem to fall between the cracks and the UK tax site is beyond belief. we know the poms make it hard for themselves. Its early days but having the only family in UK is a future thought perhaps…..or a Lotto ticket and we could by a bolthole there as well huh? cheers
 10. should i put the query into relevant area Andy or does the moderator do. appreciate your reply thanks alot..
