  4. Thank you! Will look into those options. Whenever I look at a,Avon or ebay they don't post to Oz the stuff I am after so I was planning to get family to post...
  5. Hi all, I am still recovering from prices here... $300 for a kids bike that costs £60 back home or $80 for £24 toddler clarks shoes... the cheapest postage option for a 4kg package from UK to Oz I can find online is around £50 but gets here in less than a week. If time is not critical, can someone pls recommend cheapest company/currier for posting things like kids shoes and bday presents over here? many thanks!
  6. I know it's a boring thread but it the info would be very helpful, thank you! where is the best place to buy decent fridge & washing machine without paying the top dollar? same for a sofa and bed? Which pet insurance is good here? I heard lots of negative info about pet insurance over here Best Internet & utility provider? thank you! we are in Sydney
  7. Wow, thank you all for so many detained replies! It all def sounds reassuring can't comment on schools as we are not there yet but in regards to posts about daycare, it's official government requirements here for 2-3y olds 1:8 ratio and it's becoming 1:5 from 2016 whereas in the uk it's been 1:4 for ages. If it is different in any particular daycare that means they are volunteeraly doing more and above. I would imagine it would be a hard find in Sydney with 3y waiting lists...
  8. I keep reding all the comments here about how bad or much worse than in the UK the schools are here and getting increasingly worried... How bad is it? nurseries have been shock to the system so far and for one 1:8 staff ratio for two year olds as oppose to 1:4ratio back in the UK is ridiculous in my view but does it get worse?...
  9. Hi, I have a few basic questions regarding property types /quality in Sydney and you advice rpwoukd be highly appreciated, especially as I didn't quite expect it to be so cold here  1. Are wooden windows better than metal and why? 2. Is it true that non brick I.e. Wooden houses have no insulation at all unless newly built and are very cold/hot and noisy? 3. Lots of rentals surprisingly don't have air con... Is it comfortable without air con in Sydney in the summer? I was under the impression that it's a must have... 4. Some pleaces have oldish pools. How difficult are they to maintain? Do you have to buy ur own equipment? 5. Anybody lives or can comment good or bad on the following areas in Sydney please: ryde, north / west Ryde, Macquarie park, epping lane cove, hornsby? We are after a 3 bed family home that would accommodate toddler and a small dog and actually has a nursery nearby with places available, .. 3 year waiting lists in Sydney, who knew... thanks a lot!
  10. Pumpkin, thank you so much! You are a star and made my day )) we are off for a drive through those areas and have a close look xx
  11. Place we own in the UK is 80 years old, full of character and has nothing to do with lego but its quality is nothing like those houses I posted so I am looking for a similar standard in rentals too. I rented in London for 7 years before buying and that's a very long time to live somewhere you hate with the excuse that you are only renting IMHO
  12. Wow, that will do ) thx a lot, I didn't even look there as cityhob website classed st Ives as very expensive burb...
  13. Thx a lot for your advice Pumpkin! 2bed is what we need really but all those brothers with partners and grandparents are not going to be visiting for a week now... It may happen a few times a year so but I can't really keep in-laws on a couch I. The living room for a month for example... So 3rd bedroom is realistically needed a few times a year but this you would really need on e the visitors a here for a month on end. what are the alternatives to the northern beaches burbs? I thought ff is far enough from the beach not to be considered a beach burb... Thx
  14. I was being sarcastic when talking about beach shacks what I mean is that the majority of the houses look old or they look ok from the outside but have old single glazing, weird granny electric fireplaces, cardboard walls etc. even the renovated once look like a granny has just passed away and relatives just repainted the walls and maybe did the flooring. So I ideally would like to find houses built in the last 20 or so yeas as there is hope in a bit more modern style and features. I rarely do come across houses like that but they get snapped up same day and all I get from real estate agents is sorry... Our budget is $850pwk p.s. Bbc was showing +19-20C and sun in Sydney for weeks before we came and that's a sunbathing weather in the uk if you remember example of what I am talking about http://www.domain.com.au/ore/Public/Gallery/Photo.aspx?adid=9220329&pic=4&mode=Rent&AgencyID=12666&st=1 http://www.domain.com.au/property/for-rent/house/nsw/allambie-heights/?adid=7384563&sp=18
  15. Hi all, so we (myself, hubby, 2yo son and a mini schnauzer) have moved to Sydney from London a week ago with suitcases full of shorts and flip flops  Staying in a very nice flat and looking for a long term rental. I was focusing on areas and schools and amenities when choosing where to look but what I didn't expect is the quality of the houses ...:mask: Don't want to sound rude but all the houses are just beach shacks... Even for crazy money they are just massive beach shacks.... hubby by will be working in North Ryde, I most likely in CBD and we are looking for a modern 3bedroom townhouse/semi/ unit with a small garden, patio in a family friendly area. And we really struggle to find that. Can someone please recommend recently developed areas or maybe newly developed areas in old suburbs that fit the above criteria please? We are already considering apartments and an indoor toilet for the dog (( thank you
  16. Hi, thx a lot for your reply. it's a personal import I guess (2007 mazda 3 ) with no Aus manual currently being shipped in a container by Pss. Nothing flush but relocation costs were covered by employer so am I right in thinking that it would be installed (and we will be charged for it) by customs here prior to its release? Thank you!
  17. Hi All, does anybody know where and for how much can you fix a back mount for the Aus carseat into European car? Our car uses isofix but we couldn't find any isofix carseats in Sydney so far. Thank you!
  18. Not an expert, I am just fluent in Russian and Ukrainian so have access to much more info and detail on the matter from all sides...
  19. Thank you all for your replies but I have to admit it's concerning that everyone wants to go back to UK... Is Oz really that bad? :-/ selling the place in the UK doesn't sound like a great idea any more then....
  20. Hi, me again were you happy with the decision or would you've done it differently second time? if you sold, how quickly did you buy a place in Aus etc? we seem to be unable to make up our minds + worried about tenants trashing the place, difficulties with selling it later remotely etc. thank you!
  21. Thanks a lot everyone! nice to know that things shipped from America are cheaper than in oz even with taxes and shipping :-/ as per packed lunches... Ouch, but I guess in a way better than chips every single day of the year from the canteen...
  22. Hi all, I would be most grateful for some info on the following: 1. is is there an amazon equivalent in Aus (that not just sells books and dvd's but does everything from nappies to iPads)? 2. What's the best baby/toy store in Sydney or ideally online that delivers? 3. Is it easy to find a long term rental for 6 month or is everything long term rented for a year min? 4. Do you have to provide packed lunches in all nurseries in Aus or does it just depend on the quality of the nursery? thank you!
  23. In 1954 it was not given to ukrain. It was just assigned to be part of one state over another whithin one country- ussr. And it was done during times when the entire communist party believed that ussr is forever. And Crimea remained mostly russian populated even then and further more has always been very important strategically to Russia cos of the fleet that took centuries to create and was started by Peter the great. It ended up as part of ukrain during perestroika while Russia was weak with permanently drunk eltsin as a president and could do nothing about it and spent years supplying Ukraine with cheap energy with the right of the Russians and their fleet to remain in Ukraine in return while Ukraine was a friendly neighbour... days of Eltsins chaos are long gone... Putin... We all know what Putin is like and how much he is supported in Russia for bringing at least some sort of order and prosperity to Russia (I am not his fan by far for the record). So when anti russian nationalists activated in Ukraine it was extremely stupid of Obama to jump on the opportunity to poke the bear and sponsor it all and of eu to make Ukrainians choose "either Russia or Europe"... If he learned history he'd known that Russians would have never let their fleet go... Ukraine is a bilingual country, Crimea is 60% russian, on the second day of their rule new Ukrainian government banned Russian Language... They've changed their mind 2 days later but it was too late.. Russia used this opportunity to move in with the referendum "to save the Russians" all russia wanted is crimea, there is zero interest in invading ukrain and dealing with extra 45mln of very poor people and messed up economy etc and this move would never be supported by russian population. Current joke in Russia is that Obama paid for Russia to get Crimea back without a single shot practically. Putins rating in Russia at the mo is as high as ever cos of Olympics and for getting Crimea back which means that his crazy regime just grown even stronger... and ukrain can go and join EU like it's been promised for turning it's back on Russia...Al 45mln of them... And since Turkey is first in line... They would have to join eu too... and as for nuclear power in ukrain... Really? There is someone out there who truly wishes they still had it?!!!! Ukrain practically survives on fees for russian gas transit fees for russian fleet being based there and by buying Russian energy half price... Oh and selling weapons to Africa, Asia etc. cos they have factories left from the ussr times. Current Ukrainian government having nuclear power (although I am sure it would have been sold by now ) would really be great... russia and us are the only two countries in the workd with a nuclear triad (nuc power in the air, sea and on the ground) no one is going to start a war with Russia over Ukraine... the only reason US yaps so much cos it's a huge humiliation for Obama especially after Syrias use of biological weapon insident when Putin again saved the day for Obama... Obama is a muppet and turning out to be the biggest disappointment of America.!his rating at 1st election was 81%, now it's 47... Even lower than jw bush...
