  1. Hey Catalina888, glad you found some work it is a big weight off the old shoulders when that happens. I haven't heard about any meet ups in the near future through this site but I always up for a drink, chat, gig etc I am living in Brunswick where are you guys based? anyway if you fancy a meet up some time soon drop me a PM
  2. Hey akiralx - we will need a car for that one but it could be a goer Or give us a shout if you are in Melbourne
  3. Hi Lisa D, By the beach you say? How could I resist? Please keep us in the loop about a get together As lovely as Carlton North is it is lacking that cool sea breeze Anything happening this weekend?
  4. Thank you for posting that Maggie May - you cleared up a lot of questions I had about leaving Australia and returning within the first 2 years and the RRV. My partner and I are also on a 176 visa sponsored by Victoria. U say its not a legally binding agreement and we are only morally obliged to stay in Victoria for the first two years? If we moved to another state with the 2 years to look for work could it cause problems with our visa? Thanks again Clare
  5. Any of you guys on this thread have any meet ups planned in the near future? My partner and I emigrated in September and moved to Carlton North (a short walk from Brunswick) in October He is working all hours and I did have work but it wasn't for me so looking again Would definitely be up for a chat about experiences so far. I am originally from Middlesbrough and my partner is from the borders & we just spent the last few years in Edinburgh. get in touch if anything is going on
  6. Hi Sarah, Good luck with the move give me a shout if you have any questions or want to chat after you get here - I will keep looking for ther Poms to catch up with
  7. Hey all, My partner and I are recent migrants to Melbourne - 3 months in now. All is going well although we have a few concerns & would love to have some folk around to chat to who have gone through similar. We wondered if there were any meet ups planned or discussion groups or anything that helps new migrants navigate their new landscape so to speak. We have Australian friends and all the people we have met so far have been super friendly but its always god to have a group of people who have been there and done that when we have questions. We would be grateful for any info if there are any groups like that around in the Melbourne area  Thanks Clare & David
  8. Between two of us roughly 10 grand and we still have some of it left after 3 months a holiday, getting a house share, phones electrical goods bed, etc etc We did have friends to stay with for the first month which helped keep the costs down though

  10. Hey, thank you so much for your responses
  11. Thank you, I have been looking at them So you do all the form filling online no talking to anyone or making appointments or anything? Also does that mean that you can start putting money into the account over here before you go and it will be transferred at a good rate or can you wait and transfer it when you want?
  12. Great that you have made a firm decision, the hardest part is going to be getting the visa in the first place but once you get through that you will be laughing. Having the luxury of youth why not try going on a working holiday visa first for a year or so to see how great it is before taking the plunge? Good luck with everything
  13. Hello everyone, This is a first time post for me and I'm a little nervous My partner and I are lucky enough to be moving to Melbourne next September, I have been browsing this sight looking for help with moving issues and everyone gives very helpful advice. We need some advice for a few items. I was wondering whether people who have already moved or are moving set up a bank account before they arrived and if so how did they go about this and which bank did they go for and why? Also my partner is a chef (head) and wondered if any other chefs on here could point us in the right direction for good sites and places to go when it comes to looking for a good job? I have a ton of other questions but hoping to get some help on these ones first Thank you
