I spoke to immigration yesterday and this is how the partner visa works. You send in your application and they automatically put you on Bridging Visa A. The Bridging visa will be issued with the same conditions as your previous visa. This is the tricky part. The partner visa is usually a given, unless your really ill or dying etc. It usually takes 2 years from the date your application was lodged until you get your permanent partner visa which gives you permanent residency. However, the first part is receiving your bridging visa, whilst you are waiting for your temporary visa to be processed. If the temporary visa is not processed in an acceptable time, your permanent partner visa can be delayed over the teo year period. I had to ask the question because my husband has become ill and immi told me that I may be able to get my temporary partner visa fast tracked under compassionate grounds (but no guarantee). I would then be guaranteed getting my permanent partner visa at the two year mark. I was told that no adjustments can be made to get the whole thing processed quicker, the law is you have to wait at least the two years in order to get the PR.
