  1. How long do we have from the English exam and CPA assessment to apply for the visa? We are thinking of delaying for a few months whilst we take a trip out to Australia to help us make a final decision. Is it 12 months before they expire and have to start from scratch?

  2. No need to worry! The information will be out there. Just will just need to check, double check and triple check the requirements, go over it with a fine tooth-comb. Anything that looks a bit iffy, don't use it in your application (it seems like experience and time since graduation can trip some up). You only claim for stuff you know is super solid. Age, qualifications, whatever it might be. You don't need any more points than 60. So get the solid 60 nailed down and it's good to go.

To be honest, when we said 'we never used an agent' that wasn't entirely true. A couple of times we paid a smaller consulting fee just to verify a couple of things. We were plenty stressed to be frank...

There is nothing wrong with either way. Ultimately it's about getting your Visa. If you can afford an agent, why not? Just get a good one that's been endorsed and recommended by others.

Ah that's what I wanted to do - just pay the agent for the bits I really needed. Without my experience counting I would not have enough points to get a 189 or 190, as I am applying under General Accountant and it's very much oversubscribed.

  3. Maybe I should have chosen ICAA but I wanted the experience assessment which is why I chose CPA.

I don't have a syllabus for the Business Law (business not company law my mistake) however I could do the statutory declaration if I need to. I just thought that I wouldn't need to! I will try and give them a ring this morning.

  4. Help! Not sure what to do - CPA have come back from my skills assessment saying that I have not studied enough Company Law. I have the ICAEW qualification, I studied it between 1999 and 2002. Anyone else had this problem? I was initially told that no syllabus was required for ICAEW

  5. Thanks for all your responses. I prefer the softer approach too, and telling them that we are thinking about it rather than we are definitely doing it. However, so far whenever it has been mentioned then either the subject has been quickly changed (by someone else) or it wasn't taken seriously. It's the idea of taking young grandchildren away that will be heartbreaking for them :-(

  6. Yeah costs seem high in Sydney, but im not sure how much higher than Perth is? We actually already had a rental lined up from a friend in Perth but will just have to see what happens I guess. Good luck with your adventure anyway! Any ideas when you are planning to travel?

We'll take that rental Julia ;-)

  7. I got an email yesterday morning from CPA asking for the log in for PTA. I am expecting to be waiting another 2 weeks. I am not in a desperate hurry, although don't want to miss out all together. The day I have to tell my parents is looming closer :-(

  8. Eeep that is getting tight! I got my CPA skills and experience assessment back on Friday (submitted to them on 31st March), so submitted my EOI for a 189 visa on Friday night with 70 points.

Really hoping I might manage to squeeze into the 27th April round of invitations, but looking at the results of the last two rounds I think I might be right on the edge. Will just have to wait and see!

I think you should be fine, either this one or the one after. Interesting to know how long your skills assessment took, 11 working days not bad. Did they also assess your experience, or just qualification?

  9. Good luck

Not sure if it can done on mobile devices but online if you go to settings at top of page then choose edit signature from the options down the left hand side.

    Thanks! Got it.

Do you know how many places were allocated on 23rd March?

  10. Hi sns, I've just submitted my Skills Assessment to the CPA today. I chose them because of their MRA with CIMA so providing I am successful i'll also be able to apply for CPA membership. I know some migration agents advise people to go with ICAA for your skills assessment but im not sure why this is. I just looked at processing times and CPA seemed quicker and simpler to me. I applied under 221112 Management accountant, I don't think they split out the Accountant quota into the individual categories (but not sure). So now I have a 10 to 15 working days wait to see how many years experience I will end up with (if their website is accurate!).

Anyway good luck with whichever you choose! I see you are North East UK, where are you? I'm in Newcastle :)

I have just submitted mine with CPA, and have received the email with the request for information. Just trying to put that together now. I am asking for the experience assessment as well, so there's quite a bit to do. Did you get a response from yours yet?

  11. I thought I was ready to submit my skills assessment this evening, but ICAA website says... required...

Letter of good standing (original colour scan copy) - this letter must be obtained from your accounting body and state that you are a full current member in good standing. It should be dated within three (3) months of the application received date. (ICAEW members can obtain the required letter from the Professional Conduct Directorate)

ICAEW no longer provide a letter of good standing, so I only have a basic letter confirming that I am a member. Who is this Professional Conduct Directorate that they are referring to, and how do I contact him??

So now I am wondering if I should go with CPA as they don't ask for this. Will there be anything that CPA require that ICAA don't?

  12. I am still having dilemmas over which accounting class to ask for my assessment in. I am hoping to get my skills assessment application off in the next day or 2. Are there spaces left on the management accountant subclass? I was going to go for the general accounting one originally, but the management accounting one seems to fit my experience better. I am ICAEW qualified though. Is it just CIMA qualified people who go for this one?

    So confused!

  13. I am 38 and I was told by a migration agent that I am old in Australian visa terms!

A sponsored visa is only valid for 4 years and you are tied to the sponsorship company (I believe), that wouldn't get you permanent residency. You'd have to return after 4 years unless you found someone else to sponsor you.

A business visa might be an option, if you can prove that you have the required number of years of business experience and have a solid business plan (not sure if there is an age restriction).

I would suggest ringing a migration agent in the morning, they will talk through your options for free. Marrying a local might an option, but again you have to prove that you have lived together for at least 12 months etc, not sure of the exact rules lol

  14. Thanks for coming back to me 

I am nearly 54 years old. I've worked in a banking in early career, admin sales and salaries, then switched to working with special needs children (NVQ ) switched again to sales coordinator and worked in Fire police and ambulance for 12 years but also had own customer base. I used to work in UK and Europe sometimes for the company attending PPE SHOWS etc. Then sadly when made redundant (company sold out to opposition) switched back to sales coordinator /admin roles. At the moment I work for a drainage company in Manchester which is London based (I've been up here 3 years but originally from London). The work is planning the jobs both pre planned and reactive works and coordinating 12 engineers, hotels for them emails and liaising with FM's we are dealing with month by month. It's much more but that's the basis It's a bit like being PA for them all hahaha !

So so much more detail but that's a rough outline.

    Hi,

The permanent residency visas for skilled workers all have an age restriction of 50. I think there is a retirement visa for 55+, but you can't take any dependent children on it (if you have any), reading the threads it seems almost impossible to get a job from here unless you have skills that are very highly in demand. Do you have any family over there who could sponsor you?
