  1. i think you need the pgce. To the best of my knowledge it is the only way you will get recognised as a teacher.
  2. it won't count. Has to be a PCC check. Different to DBS. Costs 80 for a speedy 2 day service. 45 for 10 days. Application form is pretty straight forward. Worth adding that the day it is completed is the date that your one year entry point starts from. I waited for CO to request mine. Biggest window.
  3. I phoned the academic registry and it was straight forward. Was much better than email.
  4. You need confirmation from AITSL to get your Visa. You then need to register with the star you want to teach in. Similar process to your AITSL application.
  5. I did read somewhere and also had a conversation with a colleague looking to emmigrate that the GTP was being looked at if supported with 4 years of teaching experience? However I am quick to add I have no definitive evidence of this. Could all be a load of codswhallop. I was really interested to see if I could spell Codswhallop. It is definately a word I will use in a classroom in the very near future!!!
  6. Some job info for anyone searching: English and Humanities – April Start Our client is a long standing private school located within a one hour flight North of Brisbane. Based on the Queensland coastline in a mid sized city, the school offers a generous remuneration package including accommodation subsidy. PM for rest of the details
  7. I am registered with QCT and it states I can teaching QLD. I think this is a provisional registration which can be converted when I get a school. But I am on the teacher membership list. QCT definitely have a mutual recognition route you can take but I think this is an agreement with SA and VIC. I am not sure WA or NSW are a part of it. However as a leader if I saw an applicant with membership to any state then it would be better than no registration at all. That's my personal view. It took 8 weeks in total. 8 ago was weeks was electronic application and then 1 week after that, all my paperwork arrived with them.
  8. Just got my QCT number through and I am now registered to teach in QLD. That's happy days. Same documentation as AITSL with couple of references. Paid fee on Jan 26th, received confirmation on March 28th.
  9. Kayleigh, break it down into steps. 1 - contact a migration agent for professional advice. My process was - book agent Apply to AITSL - this is the agency that confirms your ability to teach in oz. You need to have done a pgce or a 4 year education degree. 3 year bed isn't enough. GTP etc haven't been valid in the past but there are changes coming in that area I think. AITSL is your skills assessment that is used for your visa application. This takes around 12 weeks. An agent can explain your visa options. 189 - Permanent resident - freedom of states etc 190 - state sponsored permenant resident - I think (not 100%) that you are tied to a state for 2 years before you can move about. If you are looking at the lists for primary school teacher I think the 190 may be your best option but professionals and moderators may offer more info on this. Further down the line it is necessary to register with the state you want to teach in. I had to send all the same paperwork to QCT (queensland college of teachers) as I did to AITSL. Another 12 week process. You also need to do IELTS. This is an English proficiency test that helps boost points for application. Lots to consider, hope it helps Last thing - lots will tell you that there is an over supply on primary school teachers in oz. Difficult to secure work. Common thread on teacher posts. This does potentially impact the lists as you never have the guarantee something will stay on the list. Food for thought.
  10. Yup it is worth getting a wriggle on. You could start collating all the paperwork now. The QCT paperwork is almost identical to the AITSL paperwork and QCT only costs 230AUD. You could start the process (without paying) and it would motivate you to collate a lot of the info, also it keeps you busy.
  11. Sadie, You will find a mixed response to this question. But that is probably for the best as no-one wants to be overly positive/negative or realistic vs unrealistic. There have been a few posts about this very thing quite recently. As a bit of an overly positive individual I would say it is possible but not base don fact, more because I want it to be the case I would look at a few websites such as: teachers on net smart hays tes Australia each local govt website You can see all the jobs on there and see if any of them are applicable to you. No point in applying until you have the Visa. Have you contacted an agent? checked the SOL and CSOL lists for your occupation? I am no expert but anything I can do to help then let me know.
  12. Hey Diz, How far are you down the Visa process? Have you completed the AITSL assessment? You can register with QCT now - http://www.qct.edu.au/ You can sign up and complete all the applications online, then you need to send a paper copy with all the supporting evidence. They do say that it takes 12 weeks from receiving the paper work so best get started. I am in Reading so it can defo be done Also looking at moving in sept.
  13. Yeah that doesn't surprise me. But the best way to look at it is succession planning and modernisation/innovation. Sharing good practice is also a great way of pushing it, albeit informally. The difference is that here as a member of leadership I would expect to walk into any dept I line manage and be shown a scheme of work or medium/long term plans for the team to use. New teachers to the profession need to be supported but also it is so important to maintain the creative process. Planning a lesson is the best way to achieve that 'good' or 'outstanding' judgement in many cases. Balancing act I guess. A filing cabinet can be stale and paper reliant. Mix it up These are just my thoughts and I am confident and could actually name people who wouldn't see it the same as me but it is all down to the individual. But I for one agree with the points you raise. No point in re-inventing that wheel.
  14. This is really interesting mate. I really agree with you. Comes down to head of department in my opinion. My last school had 8 filin cabinets that covered everything for 7-13. Use, amend, improve, ditch. What ever you fancy. It made us a progressive team. Instead of planning we refined. Leads to results and a good team. Just joined a new school. Nothing in place but really good ideas with a collaborative team. Legwork needs to be done one summer and we are good to go :-) some are selfish, some are scared, some don't even realise. Worth remembering that somebody had to start it off. Someone has to start the filing cabinet or the electronic folder. When it is done it will fill quick. :-)
  15. Are you calling me millie? The paperwork for AITSL is the same as QCT just about. So you are good to go. I didn't realise you could do both either, they can as long as each other so it is worth sending it off. AITSL is only for visa purposes. State bodies are for the actual teaching.
  16. Its not that bad to be honest. Just a bit of a paper exercise more than anything. Key areas are that your degree is not the 3 year course. I did BA history and then a PGCE which is the type of course that they like. 3 year course can lead to stumbling blocks. I collated all the paperwork, got it all certified in one big go and then sent it. You can register with QCT now and see the online application form. Gives you an idea of what you need. Once submitted they ask for a paper copy of supporting evidence. Just have it all ready If you don't have them, order your certificates and transcripts for degree and pgce You will need them.
  17. Well the good news is you don't have to go through AITSL, but you will have to register with the state you intend to live in. For example I am aiming for QLD and there for needed to register with Queensland College of Teachers. The process is fairly paper heavy. I needed the following docs: IELTS certificate - not 100% I needed it but I sent it. Degree Cert Degree Transcript PGCE Cert PGCE Transcript Passport References from schools I have worked in over the last 5 years Statement of service letters - basically guaranteeing I was employed. Costs about 200AUD to register. I had to apply electronically and then send everything off in paper format as well. I had mine certified by a barrister and sent it all off. Says it takes 2 weeks to process. That's starting info
  18. Explains why all the registration takes so long - one day someone will decide to streamline professional organisations . . .. .
  19. Hi Kasia, Have you read through the thread? SMART teachers seem to have a good presence in QLD. TES is good for NSW Each state has its own local govt page with a number of jobs on. These are good places to start Have you completed your AITSL skills assessment and registered with QCT? Sorry for the questions, just trying to help out
  20. Sounds like you have a full on plan mate. I hope it all pans out exactly as wanted. Medicals are a week tomorrow. Same day as wife and son should have PCC back. Then upload and see what happens!
  21. I am on the leadership team so it is unlikely. Difficult for someone to pick up my areas for 12 months. It is all about the job hunt!!!
  22. That's good to hear mate. I am lowering expectations and applying for a broad range. Just need to get something before deadline for handing in notice. Close to my school and want to give the best notice possible. At the sane time it is time to look after myself a little....
