I was actually wondering this one too. I saw the fireworks last yr in Sydney for new yr on a 3 week holiday there, kinda fancying something different this yr for Xmas and new year as my first Xmas ever spent away I'd like it to b different and memorable for good reasons. Kinda tempted to look at working and learning to surf at surf camp for 3 months and mayb spending Xmas as part of that there if they do anything but need to enquire what they do

I wear glasses and hate them, ment to wear them all the time but kinda wear them as and when and for driving mainly. I looked into laser eye surgery but couldn't get it done as my eye is too curved and prescription too high but I can see well enough without them so I go with that. I tried at the opticians to put contacts in but couldn't, am funny with my eyes and touching them, but then I know many ppl with lower prescriptions than me who can't see without their glasses or contacts whereas because I don't wear mine and make my eyes overwork they still manage without. The opticians hav said I have unusual eyes as they overcompensate and that I shouldn't be able to see without glasses with my prescription. I'm just going with ill make them overwork until they can't and by then if they go that way hopefully there will b surgery available to fix them. I've had glasses since I was 5 tho hence the dislike for them

That's what I'm worried about with the online one. Does anyone know where to look to see what is acceptable. Where can u do the course and how much is it out there?

At least you're starting with friends. I'm off to Melbourne probably although starting place still not totally decided for end of September. Not sure where I'm going or what I'm doing when there but seemed like a good idea. I'm a female 25 and as I'm going alone thinking of starting the trip with sta travel on their work and play starter so all the boring stuff they help with. What part of Melbourne/what hostel u starting in. I'm hoping to make some friends when I get there lol if you're out there before me u could tell me what to expect

I'm tempted to give sta's work and play a try to get me started but its also partly because I'm too lazy to look into all myself, lol. The other answers for the bag situation is make a nice male friend who will carry your backpack for you :err: . Men hav it so much easier tho, they have a lot less to carry than women, I am dreading attempting to fit enough in my backpack! Lol hey if not you get a nice strong back by the end of it. I'm taking a backpack just coz I thought for moving about it'd b easier if I had to walk anywhere but don't know how true this will be! It'll b an experience if nothing else as I've never done this type of travelling bbefore.

Only prob is my current job is shift work so really not gt the time with my shifts x

I'm taking a tablet and iPhone, bought the tablet specially as thought to get a sim for Internet on it would be beneficial when traveling for job hunting etc so I dont have to keep buying Internet or looking for McDonald to use their free wifi. Least with a tablet and Internet sim you won't have to rely on others you have it anytime.

I've got a Kathmandu backpack I bought recently, tried it for a week in Canada and wasn't bad but that's the first I've tried it, not sure how much it'll fit for a year and dreading trying to pack but should be interesting. Mine was in the sale from Kathmandu and has the small backpack attached I like it just not sure I know how to travel light. Im looking to go oz on my own at the end of September, need to book things soon, am 25 too. Seems pretty daunting and am considering trying sta travels work and holiday starter but not sure wether to or not, if I do think ill try Melbourne to start with. Do you know anyone who's used their starter pack before? carmel

I've found a course online for the rsa certificate to work with alcohol. When in oz, is this legit that u can do it online and is it worth doing before I go rather than trying to once there? Also I've never worked in a bar before so would I still be able to get bar work if I have no experience but have the rsa licence/certificate thing?? thanks

Hi, I've got my working holiday visa granted, planning on flying to oz for end of September but no flights booked yet, currently looking to start preparing, and sorting all to go but don't really know where to start. ive been looking at sta travels work and play starter pack where you get the first few nights arranged and they help with setting up tax file, subscribe you to a job site, set up your phone etc, has anyone used this to start their trip and is it worth it? Because I don't want to book with them then find I'd have been better just arranging all myself. I emailed asking if there's specific days to start but was told you can start it any day so not quite sure how you'd be in a group for it if you can start it any day. Don't want to book it and find myself on my own if that makes sense. also trying to decide between Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane to start my trip although tempted by Melbourne as I had a holiday to oz in dec/jan for 3 weeks up the east coast which spurred me on to do a yr working holiday so saw the east coast with contiki and saw some bits of Sydney and a few hrs in Brisbane during this. Soo much to think about soo confusing any help or advice would be appreciated

Hi I'm looking at going to oz at end of September, got my visa just gotta tie up loose ends here first and hand in notice at work. I was thinking of going to Melbourne first if that's any help. What area do you live? I'm yet to arrange anything except the visa and will be going on my own x
