  1. India's tiger numbers rebound: Needless to say, almost 70% of wild tiger population are in India and this is really a great news. http://www.theage.com.au/world/indias-threatened-tigers-rebound-20150120-12un2k.html
  2. Agreed. It has a lot of potential. Compared to the other islamic countries excluding Turkey, it still has a relatively free press, a civil society still opposing the extremists and its cities are still relatively good for educated women and has potential if it can clear up the mess.
  3. I don't think that will happen. They just released the main accused of the Mumbai Massacre on bail yesterday. he and his organization are already designated as terrorists by UN security council. http://tribune.com.pk/story/809259/alleged-mastermind-mumbai-attack-suspect-granted-bail/
  4. A nice article on our refugee intake by Paul Sheehan in The SMH (which I presume is not right wing). http://www.smh.com.au/comment/monis-proves-we-need-to-sort-out-our-immigration-mistakes-20141217-1297f1.html
  5. I found this by the famous Indian author Khushwant Singh- The link to this is here->http://www.telegraphindia.com/1090613/jsp/opinion/story_11097623.jsp
  6. There is an Australian connection to this as the wife of their peace negotiator and leading strategist, Anton Balasingham was Adele Ann Wilby. Balasingham (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adele_Ann_Wilby) http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2002/09/16/1032054762355.html
  7. There was a civil war going on in Srilanka where both sides didn't cover them in glory. The mess that was created in Srilanka won't get solved soon as the Indian State of Tamil Nadu will force the hands of Indian government to put pressure on Srilankan Government to solve the problem of ethnic discrimination against Tamils. There are potential war crimes cases against Srilankan Armed forces personal, which might come to bite them later. Its somewhat similar to what the Kurds are facing in the wider middle east. Will you welcome ex-Srilankan Army personal with potential war crime cases against them? Other misconception is that Tamils were in Srilanka from the time of British rule. If you google Chola empire, tamils were in Srilanka from 10AD onwards, so it belongs to them as much as the Sinhalese. The Indian State of Tamil Nadu is one of the most developed in India with social indicators way ahead of other states and matching places like Cuba. The Chola empire even influenced Balinese hinduism that you see today. http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/travel--the-lost-empire-explored-the-cholas-once-had-great-power-but-the-world-has-forgotten-them-writes-david-keys-2321900.html
  8. I did my research on Caste System, Racism, Colonialism, Inquisitions,Pogroms, Slave Trade etc. You can't put a ban on what people think or do, both Here and in India.Every country has bad chapter in its history, and expecting Indians alone to be saints is not fair. Does Indian law encourage caste system? The Answer is no. Are some Indians Casteist? Might be. Is Racism sanctioned by the law here? The answer is No. Are some people Racist? Might be.
  9. Dear OP, As with all nations in this world, there are good people and bad people. Be good to good persons and ignore and give back to the bad people. Australia is not Uganda under Idi Amin, and there are laws in place to handle anything that goes out of hand. Australia is one of the most egalitarian societies in the world, so any snobbery is not tolerated. You will have to treat a person with respect, irrespective of whether they are a CEO, Taxi driver or a tradie. And being a liberal democracy with equal rights for everyone, you too are free to give back if anyone verbally abuses you.
  10. So you want the rest of the world not to judge your country by a few incidents, but have no qualms about judging a billion people based on one incident?
  11. So a random Aussie on the street knows if a random brown person is illegal or legal? And would a random illegal who is of the same colour as majority of Aussies be treated differently?
  12. We survived black death, World war II, atomic age, Cold war etc. We will survive.
  13. Gents, this is now getting personal. I might not agree with MaryRose, but to compare her to echidna is to take it too far.
  14. Australia gives points for age, qualification and English knowledge. If we exclude age and qualification, then English knowledge should give advantage to the people whose mother tongue is English. If you still feel that you are at disadvantage and are not able to compete in your mother tongue against person who is learning it as second language, then I don't know what change can be done to make it advantageous to you.
  15. I had a friend who was in a way having thoughts similar to you , but he believed that aliens (from another planet) were taking over.
  16. And when were Indians and Chinese asking the UK government to change its laws or indulge in any activities that were a threat to anyone else?
  17. No one takes anything seriously nowadays, if it goes counter to what they think.
  18. I can understand the point made by MaryRose, Harpodom, Flag and others and what spectrum of political divide they support. But I'm not able to make my mind on which spectrum you occupy? I'm sure its not right wing or left wing or something in middle. If you are trying for something similar to what was in Germany before the end of World War II, then you are in the wrong country ( both in UK and in Australia).
  19. OK. Few questions. What do you mean by mixing with host countries people? And please enlighten us on what part of British culture they are not interested in?. And by mentioning laws, do you mean the laws that are in effect in UK? If so, then both Indians and Chinese have the lowest incarceration rate. So do you mean any other law that I'm unaware of? And what do you want British government to do? And what is doing their own thing?
  20. Whatever we post on this forum, its ultimately what the people of the country want that would be the policy of a government. The last set of refugees from that region in the 1970s and 1980s aren't covering themselves with glory now. So that might be the reason behind the apathy towards refugees in general. No country should be forced to compensate for a problem in other country. Asking Western countries to solve all the problem without expecting the people from problematic nations to find a fix for their problems is another sophisticated form of white man's burden and racism. Its the duty of the people belonging to the problem countries to fix their problems and not for others to do it.
  21. Not sure about the UK, but in USA, Indians are top notch. Their per capita income compared to other ethnicities ( even Asians and whites) is the highest.http://www.forbes.com/2009/02/24/bobby-jindal-indian-americans-opinions-contributors_immigrants_minority.html There are lots of Indian CEOs in US MNCs http://www.forbes.com/2009/12/17/indian-ceos-united-states-forbes-asia-indian-ceos.html The credit goes to USA which is a true meritocracy. As Ayn Rand had mentioned, capitalism in its purest form is the best antithesis to racism
  22. If the average Iranian refugee is better qualified than skilled migrants, then why are they not taking the skilled migration route?
  23. So what would you suggest the government to do.
  24. No. Lets put a blockade on migration, jack up the wages and reduce our population growth. But then no one will buy our goods because they are costly, and because of low population ( thanks again to those who are against migration), our market won't be able to support our industries.
  25. Just curious. Escaping from Sri Lanka and then moving to safe India ( which last i read, has Tibetan Government in exile and has refugees from many nearby countries living there-Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Myammar, Tibet etc.), and then moving again to Australia because their friends and neighbors who are already there are doing good. Was this the intention of the refugee convention when it was signed ?
