Brisbane council has a long waiting time. It took a month to get the letter for the test then another month for the actual test. Approved same day then a 4.5 month wait for the ceremony which was earlier tonight! I'm pretty sure you can travel, but best check with DIAC. I traveled overseas a week AFTER the test, so not sure if BEFORE the test is an issue or not.

Yes, it really depends on where you apply. NSW/Sydney is known to be relatively fast. QLD/Brisbane is rather slow. I applied early Feb 2013 in Brisbane. Sat the test early April 2013, approved the same day although the letter arrived a week after. Received ceremony invitation letter in July 2013 and booked for ceremony this 15th Aug. So overall 6 months.

Yes, sorry I didn't mention about it before. Basically prior to online application only, during one of my face-to-face visits at DIAC, I asked for the direct number and was given a small paper with a phone number and email.

There is a direct number for Brisbane Ceremony team. Also an email. I don't want to post here to avoid everyone calling them.

Letter arrived today.

I applied Feb, sat in the test 2 months later in April and approved the same day (letter sent a week later). Received the ceremony invitation today, so nearly 4 months later. Ceremony in 3 weeks time. Brisbane city council. Update: Attended my ceremony tonight. It was an emotional moment after a long wait. :-)

Not yet. Apparently they are being mailed out this week.

Hi all, Just wondering how many weeks before the citizenship ceremony did you receive the invitation letter? DIAC said I am booked for the Brisbane City council ceremony in August, but I haven't got the letter yet. Is anyone here booked for the same and if yes have you got your invitation letter yet? If you can still use your current passport, then that wouldn't be accepted as a valid reason to expedite the ceremony. It really depends on your DIAC team and local council. FYI my approval was 4-Apr, ceremony scheduled 15-Aug, Brisbane City Council.

I believe you can only apply online now. They don't do walk-in applications anymore. I applied 24-Jan and did the test 4-Apr, approved the same day. Currently scheduled for ceremony 15-Aug at the Brisbane City Hall.

That is awesome! I assume you aren't having your ceremony at the Brisbane City Hall but rather at your local council?

Hi coolsmilee, We took out test the same day as you and were approved the next day. I rang DIAC in Brisbane and they said that our ceremony will be on 15-Aug. This morning (1-Jun) they held a ceremony at the Brisbane City Hall. Cheers, Jimmy
