    Point Vernon QLD

Out & About in Point Vernon Qld
  2. I am disgusted at some of the attitudes of members of this forum, People are suffering and people will die because of the extreme weather and all some can do on here is to turn it into an us versus them argument. Just under 12 months ago My home was hit by a tornado, myself and my neighbors got through that period because of the help and assistance from others, thank god i did not have to rely on the members of this forum, I would not have survived.
  3. Take a look at this thread and contact them, i think you will get all you questions answered there.... http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/transport-shipping/138727-worth-bringing-my-car-iron-ladys-trusty-new-calculator-reveals-all.html
  4. Hi welcome to the forums, You will find that agents will not contact you about accommodation until you are in Australia. Most new arrivals use holiday accommodation for the first few weeks until they can sort out something more permanent. Nurses seem to be in demand in and around the Fraser coast area so you will probably find a job pretty easy once your registration is sorted out. There is a sister site for members in QLD and you may find it useful to register on there as well, its a quieter site but friendly .... http://www.lifeinqueensland.com/ I love Cannock spent many hours on the "Chase" when I was younger....
  5. when does your current visa expire, the bridging visa will then normally come into play...
  6. Hi, Not 100% sure but I would urge on the side of caution and get as much evidence certified as you can. It may save a lot of bother when you come to apply.
  7. and you deal with property in Australia, that must be one hell of a portfolio you hold? :twitcy:

    Mozzie bites

Sorry to hear that you react so violently to bites. 6 months ago i was bitten and ended up unable to move because of painful joints (hips, ankles and shoulders) Went to see my GP who informed me that it was probably a mozzie bite and treated accordingly. He did explain that Mozzies bite do not normally swell. Sandflies /midges bite and leave a hard red swollen lump that can be painful and itch. When I get the red itchy bites I normally take an anti histamine. I have tried all types of treatment to ease the itching, including chemist medication and home made sprays, i have never found anything that i could say really helped with the itchy bites. If you find something please share I am sure a lot of us get these itchy bites.
  9. Sorry but if your motivation is to be financially better off then I would suggest you stay where you are. There is more involved than just finances when you emigrate it involves a whole package of feelings and emotions. If you have doubts about the move I think you would be better off staying in the UK..
  10. Strange statement, why do you think Aussies dont drive manual cars? I am also amazed that people can tell the nationality of a motorist by glancing at them when driving. if they dont like their driving style then they must be Australian and if they drive "OK" they must be British. Oh well once this thread ends it will be at least two weeks before someone else complains about the driving standards..... With any luck we will make it to new year without another driving thread.
  11. Thank you, I was getting confused i thought everyone was talking about some type of hero. Not a two bit petty criminal who happened to take a very small part in a train robbery and was partially responsible for the poor quality of life and early death of the train driver. I wonder if these people who feel he is some kind of working class hero would feel the same if it had been their relative who died following the train robbery. The only reason no one was charged with murder was because it took more than a year and a day for the train driver to die from his injuries....
  12. You can import up to $1000 worth of goods before you are due for import taxation.
  13. To be honest, I would have been more shocked had it turned out she had never used cocaine... Not may celebrates can claim to be totally drug free...
  14. Sorry but I do not think you would be entitled to much, especially as they are clamping down on benefit claims. You have not paid anything in the way of national insurance contributions, so at the moment you would not be entitled to a retirement pension and as for disability allowances I think you would extremely lucky to get anything. Hopefully someone with more experience will come along and offer some more informed comments but that is how I understand the system.

    VicPol

Hi, Try asking on the sister site for Victoria members http://www.lifeinvictoria.com/ Hopefully someone on there will be able to help you.
  16. We are going to move into Hervey bay, at the moment we live 1/2 hours drive away. Any suggestions as to what would be the best area to rent a home for a 'mature" couple with no kids. We are thinking of Point Vernon, but getting mixed opinions....
  17. old one is returned automatically but separately from new passport.
  18. Its 4 to 6 weeks normally, but i believe you can pay for an express service. You have to attend a main post office to apply for a UK license and they check the forms then send them of to Auckland NZ. Once they check it all out in NZ they notify the UK who issue and post a new passport to you. They no longer issue UK passports in Australia. It may be worth popping in a large post office and asking if there is an express service. Oh and its expensive, around $280 for standard passport. I did this a couple of weeks ago and still waiting for passport to be issued.
  19. RIP, he was a good actor who never seemed to reach his full potential. He was turned down for "Bond" such a shame he could have been a great bond.
  20. Great photo's. Thanks for letting us see them ....
  21. I heard this theory a long while ago. It was in a book called mortal error .. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortal_Error:_The_Shot_That_Killed_JFK I must admit it sounds plausible.... but will we ever know the truth...???
