  1. Hi, I’m not Atlas but I desperately need some advice please. I have used Moneycorp for 7 yrs now, but something govermental that I don’t understand, has caused Moneycorp to cease transferring money from my bank in the UK to Australia. They never charged a fee, though I suspect they got the fee from my currency exchange. So if you can give me some advice, I’d be extremely grateful. I’m in Perth, WA. Thanks again, Sue (erudite60)
  2. You all need to be thanking Tony Abbott! Do you really want Australia to become a dumping ground for all the misfits. The UK is so overrun with refugees, asylum seekers & illegal immigrants that no one now knows what the hell to do about it. There are so many murders, rapes, burglary etc., & a great deal of the time it is these people who are committing them. If I had the power, I'd send them back. I'd also say to the ones that are here, beware, because you may have Australian citizenship, but if you commit a serious crime, you will be stripped of that privilege & sent back from whence you came! Too many 'do gooders' in this world. The UK respects Australia for its strict laws & is envious. Believe me when I say, PROTECT YOUR BORDERS!!!
  3. Hi Que Sera Sera! You just confirmed, though in a round about way, that agreed with me. Same country or different country, the father still has to be involved.
  4. I arrived in Perth a month ago & immediately got a Medicare Card. All overseas visitors are given the card with Reciprocal written across it, UNLESS they arrive with a permanent visa from the start. I have a 143. - parent's temporary visa. I chose not to have the immediate permanent visa, because $40,000 is a lot to commit to when you don't know if you will like the way of life. So I paid just over half, & then I got 2yrs to make up my mind. If I like it, I pay the balance & I'm a permanent resident. However, because I am regarded as a temporary resident, I come under the heading of ' Overseas Visitor.' I went to HBF as a sort of benchmark & learned that there are no insurers can give me a private health insurance, EXCEPT Bupa. After 12 months the cost drops dramatically. So it's a case of Hobson's choice..............BUPA healthcare or NO healthcare. Hope this helps!
  5. Sorry if this is too late, but the answer is a resounding YES YOU DO. He has no less rights to the child than you do, so anything major in the child's life & he must be involved.............unless he has absolved those rights. Try flipping the coin, how would you react?
  6. Hi there. I moved here to Perth 2 weeks ago, as my 2 sons work in WAPOL. I am an experienced midwife of some 28yrs, but looking for a part time position.

    Showers

Can anyone please tell me if the shower connections are the same as the UK? I'm going to be living in Perth in January & have a great shower hose (extra long for washing my dog) I'd like to bring with me. Grateful for all advice.
  8. I have recently retired & moving out to Perth early January, 2015. Does anyone know if there is a central body in Perth that deals with employment for midwives? I wouldn't want full time & certainly not in a stressful high risk area. Any thoughts anyone?
  9. To Gbye grey sky, Thanks for jumping into the breech! That makes sense. I'm useless at this sort of thing. That's where a husband would have come in handy! Haha!
  10. To Peterc 1983 Thank you so much for your reply. It made a lot of sense. When you say my property can be off set in Oz, what exactly does that mean? Sorry for slow reply but haven't felt well.
  11. I am moving to Kallaroo, Perth on 4th January2015. I was meant to get there in February, but somehow developed Septicaemia & ended up on ICU. Consequently I now have to pay for another private medical. I am now retired from the NHS (midwife), & have my pensions & lump sum to make decisions about. I am renting out my house, & will stay with my son until my furniture arrives. Then I will rent a house in the vicinity. I will keep my bank account in the UK, but wondered how much I should put into savings & current account, in the NAB? I am assuming that my money will get more interest than in the UK?? All advice gratefully received. Thanks, Sue.
