  1. Yep we put in EOI it took about the same amount of time, we then put in the visa application on 27.08.13, still haven't heard anything, we should get a migration person dedicated to us this week. Hurry up and wait I think is the name of the game
  2. Thanks both of you. 6 months would be fantastic but not holding our breath!! Did you have to wait to be asked to go for medicals and do you know if children have medicals and character/police checks? Good luck with your application Levi, let us know how it goes and we'll do the same! We are heading for Albany as have family there. Congratulations Caz, when do you head out there? or are you already there? Sorry if i've posted this before! Thought I did it yesterday but cant see it now!!
  3. Hi, We are new to this process too! What is the second stage? we have just lodged our 489 family sponsored visa.
  4. Hi, Thanks Levi, I will look at the link. I meant Western Australia, sorry to confuse!! Caz, it is family sponsored.
  5. Hi all, My husband is a Nurse and we have 2 children. We were invited to apply for a 489 to go to South West Australia as have family there. Does anyone have any experience of how long it might take to be granted the visa? Thanks Fifizzz

I understood it to be vaccination between 60 days and 12 months prior to export. Then 180 days must elapse between satisfactory blood result and release from Australian quarantine. However, they all HAVE to do 30 days minimum in quarantine at present, so 150 days from blood test til export from here. I think you have to have had the vaccine within a year of his travel so If your time runs over i suppose you risk having to vaccinate again. I have just gone ahead and started the vaccination procedure cos i'm more worried about extra time in quarantine. Hope that is a help, not that I'm an expert!!

Hi, I am just researching this subject to death at the moment ready for our travel to Perth at the end of the year!!! There has to be 150 days between the RNATT blood sampling to arrival in Oz or 180 days to end of quarantine. The link above is a very good one and has all the info and step by step guide. Good luck
  8. Thanks Chortlepuss, I have been trying to find out information about coming back to the UK and how it will affect childrens education. That is really useful info about the 3 years in uk prior to uni and something we had not known. I do worry about getting stuck out there, not because I dont like it but because I have family and friends that I dont want to be away from for longer. My husband is a nurse too. My daughter says she has just got used to the idea now, she knows to expect periods of up and down, we all are!! We have also managed to convince her that she WILL make new friends there.
  9. We too are hoping to move to Australia at the end of the year. We have a 10 yr old boy and 12 year old daughter. We visited family in Albany WA over xmas and the children loved it. On return however our daughter is now not now keen to move there. Its the thought of leaving friends for her. We have decided to go for only a short time (2-3 yrs). That seems to have relaxed her a bit, and me to be honest, who is less keen about the whole idea than my husband! Have you visited with her? and is there any chance of that before you make the commitment? Do you have family there? or anyone you can regularly facetime/ skype or even email? this may be no help to you but you're not alone. Would be interested to hear how you get on. Good luck.
  10. Thanks all, lots of info and food for thought there. I DO need to do more research before we go. I couldnt leave her here, id rather not go at all!!
  11. Thanks Wolvesaussie, We may well stay longer for her to progress right through, but at the mo the plan is to come back. I think I need to talk to schools here in UK and in Oz for some info too.
  12. Hello, we are planning a 3 year move to WA with our children who are presently 10 (yr 6) and 12 (yr 8). This will cover GCSE year for my eldest. What are the equivalent to GSCE out there? and do they easily transfer for her to do A levels on returning to the UK? Has anyone any experience of this? I'd be grateful for your advice.

Hi all, Am new to Poms in Oz. We are hoping to go to Albany Australia for 3 years before the end of the year. My biggest concern is our chocolate lab who is 7 and slightly stressy!! I have looked into whats needed etc and got a couple of quotes from pet transporting companies. I guess what i'm looking for is to hear your experiences. How did your dog cope with the flight and then quarentine? How are they settling into the new climate etc? Can you recommend a company or one to avoid? Any hiccups we should be careful of? Thanks for reading!! x
