  7. I know obtaining a SIM is easy and quick it was mainly so I can put it on my resume.
  8. I come out on the 21st to Brissy perm, cannot wait
  9. Are you allowed to order a SIM card and get it delivered before you come out? I was thinking of ordering a card so it is ready for when I arrive at my friends house. Once more, I was thinking of putting the number on my resume. I fly on the 21st of Jan on a perm visa and there is a good job I am in the process of applying for. The job application end date is also the 21st of Jan. Previous applications over the last month have ended in little responses and I believe that this maybe due to still being in the UK and Aussie citizen applications taking priority (which I can understand). Therefore, I was looking to take away as much U.K content (e.g UK mobile number and address) on future applications with moving in 12 days. I will be living with my friend until I source a job. When buying a SIM i know that you have to provide valid ID e.g international passport. Is it legal to order a SIM offshore if you have not arrived on your passport number and also not living at the address provided on the date of application? Also, I know by law you have to state, how many pre-paid mobile services are currently in your name. I was over in Oz a year and a half ago and had a pre paid mobile and sim in my name. I think although this was a pay as you sim, it has expired, as I get no signal with the old sim. I cannot reuse it, as it is the wrong size for my current phone but if i turn it on in the original handset I cannot see no signal. Therefore, do i state I have a pre mobile paid service (as I have on record from a year and half ago) or say I do not have any service because it doesnt seem active. I was thinking of getting this SIM for my Iphone 4 (which is now unlocked) https://www.optus.com.au/shop/prepaid/sim-card/2-combi Was just wondering if others have done a similar thing? Cheers James

  12. Until I finally arrive in Brisbane! Really cannot wait I land on the 22nd Jan, just in time for Aussie Day. This will allow me to sort a few things like TFN, bank cards, set up appointments up with Recruitment agency's before a fun filled extended weekend etc Looking at SEEK, limited I.T jobs seem to be posted recently which I guess is due to Xmas and January being a holiday month for the Aussies. Hopefully when most people get back to work next week and towards the end of the month the market should pick up.... Luckily I have a friend who will be putting me up rent free until I get a job.... I have heard the Queensland job market can be a tough one to get into. If I am unsuccessful after a few months, I may move to Melbourne. Exciting but nervous times also... Fingers crossed x
  13. enjoy this moment SO HAPPY FOR YOU! When are you flying out
  14. Hi members Heres my case. I move to Brisbane from the UK on my own in Jan on a perm visa. My friend is kindly putting me up rent free until I source a job. Once I pass my probation period I will look at renting my own place. Most immigrants I guess sell their house in the UK and buy a new house outright or have a large amount of money to put down on a house. I am guessing I will need at least 5 % of house cost as as a deposit and I was hoping to have a first time buyers grant (15k AUD at present) However, with no existing credit reference in oz and not being in a secure job for a while I know I will have to wait a year or two. Can anyone offer any advise as to what I need to do to help secure a good mortgage in the near future I was thinking: * Rental of an house of up to 2 years. * Mobile contract to improve credit reference. * Hopefully drop on to a secure job. Any other advise would be highly appreciated. Thanks James
  15. Thanks for the reply. They have got back to me and informed me I am able to get 10KG extra, not double: Thank you for your email. Please be advised that there has been a recent change in our baggage policy with regards to passengers who are migrating. Kindly note, if you hold an unstamped/unused visa, you will be eligible for an extra 10 kilos checked baggage allowance on presenting the visa at the airport at the time of check-in. This would bring your checked baggage allowance to 40 kilos. We would suggest that you send us the copy of the Visa Grant Notice in order to check and assist you further. Thank you for choosing Singapore Airlines.
  16. Hey soon to be fellow Queenslanders I am coming out on my perm visa just before Aussie Day. What do you guys get up to in Brisbane & QLD on that day/weekend
  17. Thanks for the info! Did they update your e ticket after or just send an email?
  18. Hi Great News I am looking to book flights on Friday and leave on a one way in Jan 14 I guess their is not an option for this online? So you book online, give your book ref over telephone and get this increased to 60kg? Was this with Singapore right?
  19. I know Singapore Airlines used to allow an extra 10 kg for those on a one way ticket when emigrating and activating a perm visa Is this still the case?
  20. Jan 20th, booking flights in next 2 weeks
  21. Me too, well I plan to apply for jobs 4 weeks before but think it will be easier on shore. In my opinion you are crazy to stay in Britain, the place will only get worse
