This is the main funny thing we still talk about when we remember our reccie.... Along with living on sausages for the last week..... Hubby can 'do' the noise very well....little things please little minds I guess....

Yes, we still talk about the pedestrian crossings too, two years on........!!

  2. Yes, well coming from Old Swan, I remember that one too. :-) I had a friend who spent a week on a caravan site called "Yn Agor" (Open).

PS All those Welsh lessons are obviously doing me no good. I spelt diolch wrong. Typing error, honest!

Don't worry about it - I had to double-write my Welsh text, as auto correct and predictive text was playing havoc with it!

  3. Hi all,

Yes, Primary School Teacher 241213 is still on the CSOL, towards the bottom of the list. I think the main problem is the fact that it is on the CSOL means that you need state sponsorship. Only a few states have it on their lists, and all but one (Victoria) need you to have a job offer. Victoria needs you to be able to teach certain languages.

    Hope this helps!

  4. Hi i am a primary teacher with 15 yrs experience and have just got my 190 permanent visa with my husband and two girls as dependants. Its been a tricky process and i sat the IELTS in sept 2012 so its taken since then really, however I had to wait a long time for my transcripts from uni. Now we have a permanent visa we. Have to activate within a year then have a further 4 years to move! The visa we got was sponsored by WA as that is the only state sponsoring primary teachers at the moment and i had to wait to be invited. I hope that helps a bit! Ask any questions if you have any :)

I'm afraid that WA have recently put Primary School Teacher on Schedule 2, which means they want you to have "an offer of full-time employment for 12 months in nominated region in nominated or closely related occupation". :(

  5. Yes, part of the contract with the Exchange is that you return to the same school. Exchanges are usually for a year, starting January (beginning of Oz school year). Amazing experience!

For us it would have to be a 190 Visa with state sponsorship as Primary School Teacher is on the CSOL not the SOL, which means you need state sponsorship. We have no option really but a 190 visa, as we're getting on a bit!

Hi! The above exerpt is from the NT link I posted, which is from the 190 Visa NT page....... but maybe I'm misunderstanding something? Let me know if the agents tell you different.

We are Primary School teachers, and in the last year have seen WA put Primary School teacher on Schedule 2, meaning you need a job offer, Victoria saying that you need to be able to teach at least one language from their list, and NT saying that you need a job offer....... It's just getting harder and harder! It's because we aren't in demand any more..... Hope it starts getting put back on state lists! Good luck with everything, and let me know if you hear anything positive!

  7. It's getting harder and harder for Primary School teachers. As they say, as it's on the CSOL not the SOL, she will need State Sponsorship. WA had it on their list until recently, but have now put it as Schedule 2, which basically means you need a job offer (not likely!). Victoria have it on their list, but want you to have 2 years experience of teaching, and be able to teach one of a list of languages (Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Italian, Greek, Spanish, Turkish, Arabic, Vietnamese).

Best of luck with it all!

  8. Hi again. Looks like that the only option. Lots of food for thought from everyone. It`s really appreciated .... THANKS.x Obviously going to await APHRA and then contact Hospital and then take it from there. However will also look into doing the IELTS and skills assessment in meantime to increase my options. I will have a little rant though... born and bred in England . Been through the British education system . Have O`levels , A`Levels and a Diploma in nursing and still have to prove my English abilities and pay to do so!! Thanks again ALL

Don't worry, we've all been there with the IELTS!

Hubby's been a teacher for 20 years, has O levels, A levels, Degree, Masters, PGCE, and still had to do the IELTS!

  9. My husband and I lived in the UK for ten years and LOVED it. Due to some issues we moved back to Oz when our daughter was one. She is now 11 (with three younger brothers) and we still miss the UK and want to return.

The salary's there though worry me as my husband would go from over $70000 to about $43000 as a teacher, how do people live on that as a family? Over here in Oz there are things like Family Assistance but you don't appear to get that in the UK?

Are things like food and utilities cheaper to make up for the lower wages? When we lived over there we both worked and had good jobs and to much money so I can't honestly remember what things cost!

Our hearts are in England but my husband and I do not want to move our children half way round the world only to discover we can't afford to actually there.

Any advice from those in the know would be wonderful. :)

    Thank you

What does your husband teach? Will you be working too?

  10. I know what you mean....sometimes it feels like they are trying to trip you up. Everywhere you look you get conflicting information and the worst bit is each state is different, so once you get your head around one states criteria another state will throw in a curve ball. I've just had a quick look on the other states lists and Primary school teacher is on the list for Victoria and NT. I would have liked to go to Victoria but unfortunately I didn't have the option. My advice to you would be to apply to Vic or NT asap before any further changes are made. Good luck

Unfortunately, Victoria only want Primary School Teachers who have experience teaching languages (Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Italian, Greek, Spanish, Turkish, Arabic, Vietnamese) which we don't, so that one's out too.

Not sure our daughters could cope with the humidity in Darwin (NT)..........

Hope things work out somehow for you. :)

  11. Its on the criteria page under offlist criteria. I know they are currently reviewing the criteria for 2014 so this may change but at the minute unfortunately you need an offer of employment for 12 months. All the best though I hope this new list hasn't scuppered your plans too.

Yes, it looks that way, doesn't it?

I think WA have worded things in a way that is quite confusing - I'm not the only one asking these questions on the forum!
