Hi, In nsw on husbands 489 visa. He's in full time work in his specified job and I'm working part time. I'm considering topping up my wage by doing one of these home business distributor for a health supplement, so I'll be self employed. is this allowed on the visa? I've emailed the immigration/visa department but just wondered if anyone else knows, also quicker response. thanks

My husband is a plumber/plasterer & tiler. We've been in nsw for just over 3 months now. He's working on a local council building & talking to plasterers here they are nearly all dry wall. One guy said they wet mix in Sydney good luck with everything

Hi we used myvisamanager.com (a great guy called Shezad was our agent) they are based in NZ but do assistance for Oz aswell. we didn't have a straight forward case so they helped us out loads & we arrived in Oz nearly 3 months ago. in regards to Expo's, we went to a few in Manchester & Leeds over a number of years. You get helpful info for banking, removals etc.

Hi, recently arrived from uk and hubby luckily has got a casual job plumbing. It's taken that long to get the visa and get here hes's kind of forgotten what he needs to do for registration/licencing. he did a GAP course in the uk so only now needs to do 1 yr as an assistant. The plumbing he's been doing here though is so different to uk that he feels he may need to go back to college. Any advice on step by step process he needs to do please? the only thing I can remember is something to do with TAFE?

We've recently moved over to Albury (nsw) on the Victoria border though and there's loads around here. We went to Bright last weekend and there were loads of people on mountain bikes. Around the Alpine area I think there of loads of routes. Also been to Beechworth (vic) and seems to be routes around there. if you google alpine region sure there will be info on there

Well we've now been in Oz for 2 months! started to feel abit lost with a few things we are a family of 4 (kids are 9 & 7) and we're on a 4 yr visa but after 2yrs can apply for residenc, which is the plan. 1. Do we get private healthcare or not? if so, how much roughly do they cost? 2. We have pensions in the uk. Do we get a super now, or wait to see if we get residency? 3. In Oz, you do your own tax return - when us this done, how & who notifies you? 4. We're on a subclass 489 visa - can we apply for a mortgage (wouldn't be till next year as renting till April'16)? any other advice, or info that I may not of thought of would be much appreciated. thanks francy

Hi We've just arrived in Sydney to see family but will be moving to Albury soon, where we have state sponsorship for. question is as not 100% sure & can't see on paperwork, so just need clarification we know we have to live & work in the state of Albury 2640, can we live in the suburbs of Albury? Hi, we are he France family. Hubby is a plumber, I was airline cabin crew up until last month & we have 2 kids. Rosie 8 & Jake 7. We are moving to Albury Nsw we are due to complete on our house on 28 feb so will be flying out to Family 1st in Sydney, for a few weeks then driving down. cant wait now, just not looking forward to the goodbyes

Hi not sure if this is the right thread area to post. We are moving to Albury NSW in march 15. I've got a good idea of things I need to know and do but just wondered if anyone on here has ever done a list with things to do and when to do them. I'm waking up in the middle of the night writing things down at the moment and starting to get panicy if I think I'm going to forget to do something major. any help/advice would be most appreciated. things I've done so far is, had 2 quotes for removals, got another coming next week. I've opened a bank account NAB last week. I've sent emails to the schools I'm interested in. And we're just waiting on our financial advisor on figures with regards on what to do with our house. Whether to rent or sell. thanks francy

Hi my kids are 7 (8 in oct 15) & 8 (9 in April 15). Hoping to start them after Easter next year. Am I right in thinking my 7 yr old will be in year 2 & my 8 yr old will be yr 5 - same as uk but may just repeat some if the work (know it'll be different in Oz) also, going in on a state sponsorship visa, are there fees to pay or is it just the uniforms & donations etc? thanks in advance going to Albury, nsw

Hi does anyone know if the funds we stated we would be bringing to Oz has to be that figure? at the time we thought we'd be selling the house, so bringing the equity. Now we might be renting our house out, but bringing half the equity we stated. is this allowed? thanks

We're planning on coming over feb/march next year. my kids are 7&8 and have both the Child Trust Funds that the uk government opened about 10yrs ago, they can access it when they're 18. I stopped paying into these over a year ago as it wasn't worth paying into. The visa is a 4yr visa, but our long term goal us to stay in Oz and eventually get residence then citizenship. Does anyone know what will happen to these savin funds? Will the kids just have to wait till they're 18 then sort a transfer out then? They were opened through Natwest in 06 & 07 thanks

Hi we've just been granted our visa so now more hard work and info needed. i'm after advice on which bank to open an account with. Low monthly or no fees would be good. I'll be opening the account in the uk and we're intending on moving in feb/march so want to do monthly transfers until then. once we're in Oz will still want to transfer money to uk. This is another question needs answering - my hubby has a stocks & shares policy/pension which he pays £150 a month into. Is it worth carrying this on whilst in Oz or cash it all in and bring it with us or see if we can transfer it? i have 3 pensions - one frozen, one private and one with my current employee. I will be taking a career break first for 2-4 yrs so no doubt my payments into my work pension will stop. What do I do with each (the first 2) got out complete info overload at the moment so any advice will be appreciated. I have got loads of leaflets from money companies from expos we've been to in the past. regards francy

Found out today we have had our visa granted!!!! we've now got till July'15 to make the move, luckily we've already sorted a few things out. Going to get things moving straight after Xmas. any advice or info on Albury, NSW? Removal companies used/recommended and estate agents for rentals We're looking at going over probably feb/march time as got to sell the house (which isn't going to be a problem) any other tips/advice please feel free x

:smile: My word, this time last week we had just lodges EOI, within a few days it's been selected for invitation to apply for visa! We're lodging for a 489 regional sponsorship nsw (Murray region). We are looking at the Albury area, so if anyone has any pointers I'd love to hear from you. Hubby is a general plumber. He's got his white card, and done his 1st year GAP training. We have 2 children, one is 8 and the other is 6. Would you recommend state schools or Independant? I have airline/airport experience (nearly 15yrs) Ive heard to avoid the Lavington area of Albury, anyone got areas to go for? Any advice/info would be greatly received. We'll be getting crb check done this week along with medicals to follow then lodging hopefully within the next 2-3 weeks. thanks in advance

We have 2 kids - 8 & 6 I've literally just started looking into jobs and schools and i'm after as much info if possible as we are teling our agent on sunday our final decision. Hi, think I know the answer to this. My OH is a general plumber in the uk at the mo. He's passed the Vetassess, 2 ielts test completed (overall band 7 & 8). He has OHS white card and completed GAP course with Swinburne Uni (Melbourne). We are desperate to get out to Oz (anywhere considered - where ever the job is) We know he'll have to be a plumbers trade assistant for the 1st year. So, any ideas - jobs?
