Hi all, I've had to return to the UK for a week (family emergency) within 3 weeks of arriving in Sydney. Just wondered, is this the quickest ever return on PIO? Hope the snow doesnt bugger my flight back to Sydney tomorrow.

NRL1 - Non Resident Landlord 1 (as in form 1. Forms 2 and 3 are for companies and agents respectively). Its used to apply for approval to get all of the rent paid on a property and then the landlord will pay the HMRC any tax owed rather than it being withheld at the source i.e. by the tenants.

You'll be fine. It is a thorough exam but depression and a little chest infection won't stop you passing your medical. They're really trying to assess whether you will be an ongoing drain to the medicare.

Hey Guys, For those that have properties rented out in the UK, how are you paying tax? Were you successful in getting a NRL1 approved or using an agent or are you getting the tenant to withhold the tax? Wondering what the easiest option is. If the tenant is with holding the tax then do I have to put in a tax claim every year to offset expenses? Thanks.

Hi, If you caught an infection it's likely to have been from someone on the plane or something on the plane itself. These risks are not reduced on a ship so not sure why you'd want to avoid flying altogether unless you're scared to fly? I would think the time alone you'd save by flying would be worth it, no?

Agree on checking the train map and then checking properties on http://www.domain.com.au for correlating prices. Popular areas are very expensive, i've been shocked at how pricey properties are in Sydney.
