I spent years in the Hunter region and my girlfriend at the time was a Sister at Maitland Hospital.  Trust me, I know that area well

I live in pokolbin and have the last 3 years

Do our shopping in Cessnock , yes it has some dodgy parts as do most areas , I have worked in far worse both here and uk.

Find most of the people good people

Think you will find it’s changed a bit since you were last here.

  3. Currently living in pokolbin as others have said it gets quite warm here this time of year.

It’s a hours drive from here the expressway is very busy with a lot of mine traffic on shift change over , I know a few who travell from Newcastle , not my cup of tea

Singleton is not to bad , enough shops and quite a good hospital

    Some nice areas around Maitland

A new town being built at Huntlee which is about 45 min away

good luck with your move !

Sydney has a much lower standard of living than we have in U.K.  cramped, expensive, traffic is a nightmare, all the houses are tiny very dated tired, sad and look pretty knackered but oh my their houses are seriously expensive.. It may have some nice beaches but quality of life....no way. Perth is far better if you really must live away out there and can handle the isolation and enjoy being cut off from the rest of the world ( most Perth Aussies seem to...or seem unaware that they are isolated).  UK is the best place in the world.

All in your opinion , no diffrent to London or any other capital city around the world,

  5. Can’t see a down turn in the area we are living with land costs going up every month . The amount of houses being built in Newcastle and surrounding areas is on a industrial scale as are prices going in one direction up

sydney is seeing a correction I think down to tightening of lending criteria and restricting Chinese investment , it makes me laugh when I hear people go on about price drops, not complaint when they were getting 20% yeileds every year

Did a job for guy  who had sold over looking spit bridge in Mosman told me Chinese guy knocked on door and offered 25% above market value that’s where the real problem is

Likewise it made the same jump here in NSW, luckily I'd just filled up.

Yes, it's something that has annoyed me a lot here in Oz. Even more bizarrely we have a local fuel station which reduces its prices 10c a litre every night between 2200 and 0200, which is okay for me as I work shifts.

We still have four refineries in Australia; Viva Geelong in VIC, Mobil Altona in VIC, BP Kwinana in WA & Caltex Lytton in QLD. However to import fuel from Singapore & Korea only adds circa 2c a litre which makes it an attractive option.

Must have been the last one in nsw , thanks for info

which station is that that drops it’s price I do a fair amount of work around Newcastle area

Some of my ancestors came from North Wales , near Wrexham so I would like to visit there some time next year but we have been warned off staying actually in Wrexham.  Are there any nice unspoilt small towns nearby where we could stay ?

I am from this area originally some great villages around that area , Mold  is a old market town , there is a hotel in New Brighton just out side It was called the Beaufort palace , think there are a couple in Rosset also St David’s park in Ewole and Cardena park hotel

Chester is near by ( about 20 min) away with no end of hotels a guest houses , well worth a visit old Roman town and also the medieval rows with shops there.

where about is your family from ?
