Scott Morrison was sacked as managing director of Tourism Australia in 2006 with a year left to run on his contract. For 14 years the reason for the sacking has remained one of the best kept secrets in Parliament. Now, FoI documents accessed by Jommy Tee reveal the PM either lied about a critical probity report, or numerous government departments and agencies are so incompetent that all of them – together, coincidentally, jointly and severally – lost it.

    https://www.michaelwest.com.au/where-the-bloody-hell-is-it-did-scott-morrison-lie-about-the-report-that-saved-his-bacon-at-tourism-australia/

Still only  opinion no hard facts

also nothing about being a thief

I will take Scomo being pm over Albo any day of week.

Fair enough but I can't see that any of these factors are necessarily earth shattering, really. Especially when you consider that in March 2020 Scomo closed the borders in light of the worldwide spread of Covid 19 and at the same time advising expats to "make their way home" as soon as possible. That act alone probably saved countless lives in Australia, and at a time when other world leaders were twiddling their thumbs.  Whether or not such actions will be remembered at the next election remains to be seen.  I think however that Albo a.k.a."Mr 26% (approval rating)" has a far greater challenge ahead than SCOMO

I would also add that in no way it states anything about being a thief or actually committing fraud,

might not have been very good at the jobs and sacked 🤔

He's had to sack one woman and put one in, so it's not an increase. All this balancing up of gender is bullshit anyway, should be based solely on can you do the job.

I still like Scott Morrison and think he's doing a decent job. He's caught between a rock and a hard place at the moment.

I tend to agree , it should be who’s best for job , if that’s a woman so be it fine by me.

Being given just 2 weeks to leave the country is impossible anyway. How is anyone supposed to sell all their furniture in that short space of time? I can't leave Australia for at least 6 months at the very minimum.

Could you sell all your furniture in just 2 weeks and sell your house?

Immigration don’t care about that.  They picked up to Irish bricklayers on a site I was on in sydney straight to detention Center and flight out country don’t pass go don’t collect the £200 😬

I had a phone call today from Home Affairs out of the blue. They said that when I arrived in Australia over a year and a half ago I lied to customs officers as I told them I was only visiting for a holiday for 8 weeks and then leaving.

The real reason I came here was to apply for a permanent resident visa but family and friends advised me not to mention that to customs as chances are I wouldn't be allowed in and for me to book a return ticket so it would look as if I was on holiday. I agreed that it was a good idea and my best chance of getting past customs.

So what did I do wrong exactly? There's no rule anywhere that I can see that says I cant say that I'm coming for a short stay and then later change my mind and apply for a permanent resident visa.

They have given me a BVE bridging visa with a condition I buy a ticket. Obviously I'm not going to do that.

So what visa did you enter Australia on in the first instance?

I think the OP has just had his Australian visa cancelled so is unlikely to have too much trouble getting permission to leave.

No mention in his post about that ??

the key word being were.  They were swamped last year, now there are empty Covid wards.  Why are we still locked down?  It is madness.

Careful what you wish for ,

when are you moving over here ?
1 case and a whole state will get shut down, how would you feel about that ?

Being stuck at home isn't the problem,  the problem is millions waiting for NHS treatment, including for cancer.  This highest rates of child mental health cases ever recorded.  Whole industries on their knees and millions of jobs on the line.  People's lives on hold, opportunities that may never come again.  There has to be balance, and with moving goalposts all the time the UK government seems to have lost all perspective.

My sil was diagnosed with Brest cancer mid last year , her treatment chemo and radio all carried out  as planed no hold ups or cancelations.
Industries around the world have been effected not just uk.

Marisa told me I was selfish for travelling to the UK to see my dying father and that as a Christian I should have sacrificed this trip for the greater good. So yes - she said I should turn my back on my parents.

I think you are reading It as to suite your view of unrestricted travel ,

you were able to travel, you met the requirements, what is being stopped is free travel simply to holiday ,

non of us want this situation but for the greater good of Australia we understand the reasons why.

I would cherish the time with your parents and not waste it on here.

Got to love when non Christians tell you what you are supposed to believe or do. The Ten Commandments tell us to honour our father and mother and that means being there for them and not turning your back on them when they need you.

Nobody has said you should turn your back on them .

That is very strange as I don’t know of any friends in the UK who live alone who have been stopped from seeing their family or parents for over a year. A month or two at most during the hardest lockdowns. Bubbles are allowed so unless your niece is overseas and not allowed to travel to the UK there really is no good reason why they have not seen each other unless, of course, your sister is shielding due to a serious health condition.

All home countries have been doing there own thing. While wales was in lock  down people were swarming over the boarder from England to get to north wales for a day out. oh to live in a perfect world

Anyone is entitled to have a gripe about their adopted country. Good for them, I say, as its not the greatest place to live but where is the greatest place to live?  Its a good deal better than most though and that factor alone will do me.

I have no issues with a gripe but to carry on about the approach Australia has taken and continues to take about covid are not warranted imho. As said I will take the travel restrictions if it means 1000’s of lives are saved , I am desperate to get back to see family in uk but am realistic in the situation the world currently finds its self . Thank the lord for face time .

My SIL has worked 2 weeks in every 6 for Qantas in ticketing Her job disappears at the end of March as Qantas is closing the domestic ticket office permanently (not just for Covid). As she ordinarily works at the International Airport Qantas will not make her redundant. She  has applied for many jobs, studied and got new qualifications but no alternative work for her. Probably because she is a 60 year old woman. Older women are now the highest group on welfare benefits.... age discrimination is rife.

If you read my posts properly you would see that I believe the vaccine should go to the most vulnerable and those most at risk of coming into contact with Covid first. ScoMo and the other pollies do not fall into these categories. The doctor at the PA in Brisbane who contracted Covid from people she was treating should have been inoculated well before those reprobates.

So you think everything should just carry on as normal , no travel restrictions let’s just roll the dice and take our chance ?

It was very clear that Scomo was having vacation to promote it saying it was safe as far too many out there with conspiracy theories about it.

you are the only person I know who has complained about him having vaccine.

The link spells it out exactly as your wish but you still complain most vulnerable first and front line workers.

You can choose to make it political but that’s simply not the case , your anger and frustration are coming out with your current situation.

  15. Seems to be another Australia bashing uk is better thread.
No issues if it’s not place for all but some of us are happy here and more than happy of the approach Australia’s taken with covid,
I will happily take travel restrictions if it prevents 1000’s of deaths.

Looyplo one thing you are not taking on board or choosing to ignore is the fact that all major Air lines have parked their aircraft up until things get back to normal thus mean far fewer flights available and far less passengers able to board flights to meet covid restrictions.
your sil is very lucky to still be working at Quants as most have been laid off. I know of pilots working at Center link , Driving trains etc , talking to them they are realistic with what’s happened not moan moan moan. It’s not going to change as pilots and crew not getting flight hours to keep up aviation requirements.
Theses are unprecedented times which you are failing or choosing not to accept,

you still haven’t answered who should get the vaccine first ?

    Hi

I am currently working as a temporary works coordinator/construction coordinator.

    IOSH managing safely certificate

    Temporary works coordinator certificate

NVQ level 6 in construction management certificate.

are these transferable in Australia or will I need to do further training.

and can I do the training in the uk before I move over in February 2022

I doubt they would be recognised , I know the safety is not

you many have to do more training once here,

Its very different here compared to uk , with every trade or I should say main trades being licensed , carpentry , bricklayer, plumbing and electrical ,and a builders licence for residential works  and while uk qualifications help you on your way to get a licence you will need to do more training to gain one

I don’t even know if construction manger is on the list.
You need to see which visa you can apply for.
    good luck 👍

You don't need shipping containers for iron ore.

Shipping iron ore is not a problem nobody has suggest that . lots of shortages of other supplies as a world shortage of shipping containers , with less planes carrying cargo it has knock on effect.

It is the LNP (ie Scomo) that is in control of who gets the vaccine first. Albanese and Bandt were going along for the ride.

I am apolitical, don’t vote and my views about how we should treat the stranger and those less fortunate than ourselves are based on the teachings of Christ. I have no faith in mankind, and socialism fails because of the inherent selfishness of people. However, in my view, it is the closest political theory to what God requires of true believers.

I am sorry to hear that your two mothers who I am guessing are in SA are isolated from you and live in a dangerous environment. Maybe you could pay for contributory parent visas which is the quickest way of getting them to Australia?

I had not seen my parents for over 2 years as their annual trip to see us in 2020 was prevented by the Australian lockdown. Sadly my children will not see their beloved grandad in person again and I AM angry and sad about that and blame Australia for that.

Who should get the vaccine first?

somebody will always feel hard done by , somebody had to start  first and then work through list , this is not a easy roll out , but unfortunately it’s far easier to complain than praise the good job done to keep our numbers down in the first place.

some of us lost our parents at a young age and would be grateful  to even face time them.
As said before people going through far worse than yourself.
you must have realised when you moved to the other side of the world the family implications involved .
