  1. If you want to live in Queensland then Brisbane has to be your best bet. However, there have been a lot of cutbacks in Queensland health and a lot of nursing posts have been lost. Agency work may be available but public hospitals are using agency as little as possible. Private hospitals would be your best bet.....but there are a lot of nurses looking for shifts. You may well be able to get work but better to have something to come to....there are a few Qld health jobs advertised but they tend to be for specialist areas. your husband would certainly have more opportunity in Brisbane. If you want to commute then it can be at least an hour and a half on a good day from the Sunshine coast. Brisbane has horrendous traffic problems at peak times. There are not that many hospitals on the Sunshine coast and it is an area that many people would like to live but can't find work. Don't know about other areas....other states have made some cutbacks but Queensland is the worst as far as I know. Good luck
  2. Make sure you do find jobs before you go. Caloundra/sunshine coast are too far to commute to Brisbane and it is not a good area to find work. nursing jobs are are not easy to get as Queensland health have virtually stopped recruiting and have made many redundancies so most options are in the private sector and there is a lot of competition. The Sunshine coast would give you very few options. you really need to be flexible as to where you are going to live......find a job first.
  3. Indeed.....the youth suicide rate is shocking over here
  4. It is not that easy to get a job in the public sector. The police service is especially difficult unless you already have a job offer. Some states, such as QLD, have been making many redundancies..do not even consider it unless you already have jobs lined up
  5. Luck of the draw methinks.....I had a bad experience here, in a private hospital, which ended up with me having to attend a public hospital as an emergency which was an even worse experience. Also have had a good experience in the same public hospital.......and I work in the system so see all sorts.
  6. ....and I don't particularly hate it here....just find it nothing special.....and it is only for a limited time. May even return one day if it suits me
  7. Seems so.....when I lived in Toowong (an expensive area) it was also difficult to get an appointment and that was $60 a go a few years ago.....was a very populare practice
  8. Some very expensive areas...out of many people's reach I should think.
  9. GPs who guarantee an appointment the same day for a start. Have you never been to the Peak district?
  10. Not my experience at all.....perhaps you should have lived somewhere a bit better
  11. Was like that in Derbyshire......same day guaranteed appointment. My recent experience was in Ely and the A+E in Mansfield.....seems you were unlucky
  12. Perhaps you have to choose where to live carefully......much like in Australia
  13. Strange.....I was in England last year and saw my son's GP on three occasions and was seen within hours each time. I also had to attend A+E and was seen within half an hour and referred to a specialist who I saw the same afternoon. ......and didn't have to pay for any of it
  14. Who said I am going anywhere??.......and it is exactly what I expected....nothing special. You really sound totally unrealistic about what it is like here.......but it is your life:laugh:
  15. So they are similar to the 'dole bludger' culture over here. How are you going to deal with that issue?
  16. Well I suppose they are similar to much of Australia
  17. At leat they have actually lived there.....so probably able to advise better than someone who has not
  18. It is the same person.....just another new name
  19. Indeed....Defensive driving lessons should be compulsory before they take their life in their hands driving on the roads here
  20. Do you mean so that they can learn to drive badly as well? Otherwise it would make more sense if the locals actually went on a driving course
