  1. Both my husband and myself met citizenship requirements in June last year (2018), applied and then had to leave the country. We came back and sat our citizenship test and had interview and passed in March-this year but could not remain onshore for the timeline of 6 months for approval and left Australia, Our children, both under 16 were under my husbands application and we now think that it is better to add the them to my application, or is it too late? I will return to Australia within six month approval time line and look for work. We left for family reasons, grandfather being very old and ill, delays with house sale/renting it out due to Brexit. The delays in citizenship processing times made our son ineligible for a loan to begin university unless he was a citizen, thus, he was in in limbo. My children wish to study and live out their lives there. Uk is a temporary move. Can we add our children to my application given we have not yet been approved?
  2. We have already done this, 2 years ago with 3 children and it has been a career and financial disaster for us. We are looking to return to The U.K as work is scare and that is with us seeking a job anywhere in Australia in ICT business dev't and sales. My husband who had a well paid permanent job in the U.K Is unemployed after a bad experience in a small company in Adelaide where connections and who you know overrides merit as many jobs not advertised. He is against a high volume of applicants for each job. It has cost over £40,000 to do this in various costs and we are living off savings, we need £3,000 per month to live with cost of living. There is not much out there in the field of I.T and overseas experience is seen as an impediment. In the Australian Newspaper last week, 10,000 full time jobs lost each month in Aus with part time/ service jobs replacing them. We came out knowing it would be hard, however there are too few jobs with many highly skilled applicants. Tradies could have better opportunity. We were successful in the U.K and do love the lifestyle, diversity and would have wanted it to work out for us. If you come to a secure job from U.K. your experience could be positive. I have a temp contact with Health that ends in Dec, they have to save $110m and many Australian s are needing the work, so all competing for work, no permanent jobs available. The sun may shine, however, the extreme anxiety and impermanence of our situation is stressful. Our children love Aus and will return reluctantly to the UK. Britex is a concern, yet, we have to be where the work is and the U. K has more jobs. Research your field of work before you decide to make an informed decision
  3. Hi Everyone Are we still eligible for home school fees status in the UK? We have been in Adelaide for over 15 months on a temp visa 489, work situation is dire, much worse than appeared fro UK and not likely to improve with Aussies not even having contract renewed in Gov jobs. We may have to move back to UK in next 6/12 months. We have three children, age 10 13 and 16. We have been in contact with our L.A education, not getting clear advice back. I seen to think I have read that we would still be seen as temp residence overseas in the UK, still have house rented out and bank accounts etc and have no been away for three years. We can apply for P.R, in Dec 16, it is taking up to 6 months to be assessed and we would be on 887 bridging visa B during this time. Does any one have advice for this legislative complex area. Laura
  4. Hi, On a 489 visa which expires in dec 2016. Doing my first Aus Tax return and totally confused on whether I'm considered temporary resident or not, when it comes to the declaration of a small amount of UK income - BS interest. in ato gov related site : https://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/international-tax-for-individuals/in-detail/foreign-income-of-australian-residents/foreign-income-exemption-for-temporary-residents---introduction/ It would appear that as I'm living and working in Adelaide fulltime then I'm considered a resident for tax purposes But it then goes onto state If you're an Australian resident for tax purposes: You generally have to declare all income you earned both in Australia and internationally on your tax return. However, if you have a temporary visa you're a temporary resident – this means most of your foreign income is not taxed in Australia and you don't declare it on your Australian tax return. You only declare income you derive in Australia, plus any income you earn from employment performed overseas for short periods while you are a temporary resident of Australia. The Migration Act provides that a temporary visa is a visa to travel to and remain in Australia: during a specified period until a specified event happens while the holder has a specified status. The 489 is for a specific 4 year period so seems to put me in the temporary visa category which i take as meaning I don't have to declare UK income, but can't find it detailed anywhere, to confirm Any 489 visa holders out there who have dealt with this ? Cheers Laura
  5. Hi First year to do tax return here in Adelaide, and I'm looking for a Tax agent based in Adelaide eastern suburbs to help. Ideally want a Tax Agent with experience of UK tax system, as its a transition year for us with the need to pay Tax in UK and Australia, plus we are on a provisional 489 visa. Can anyone suggest someone. Thanks Tim
  6. Thanks Iron Lady, you have clarified something we needed a answer to and could not find the from browsing the web. Much appreciated. Laura
  7. Thanks for your logical response DMJG, you have spoken sense to the above reply. It seems people are keen to knock you and do so before they have thought about what we are asking. We need to know all our options on a 489 visa. Laura
  8. We are thinking of bringing over our family car and from the import license it appears we can do this on a 489 as it is a pathway to P.R. We intend to stay and achieve a new life for our family, however, we have one worry. We do need to stay in South Australia for 2 years and work for one, if we are unable to for fill the criteria due to difficulties in finding employment, where do we stand in terms of the car. Are we expected to pay for shipping it back to the u.k? This would seem draconian and financially prohibitive. Can we sell it in the 2 year timeframe prior to achieving P.R via the 489/ 887 if we had to. We need to factor all the outcomes into our decision making, has any one done this? can you help? Thank You Laura
  9. I have a quick question, which I hope you can help me with. We have a 489 visa and hope to follow the pathway to a 887 visa, which I know requires 2 years residence in South Australia/one year working and I have read that evidence of rental agreements, wage slips etc is used to verify that the applicant has met the 2 year criteria Can you tell me if I take a 2 week holiday outside Australia during the 2 year criteria remaining period of my visa if that would cause problems, and invalidate the visa due to not having 2x 365 days in the counrty for 2 years. We would still have rentals, etc in AUS. We received the visa in Dec 2012 and visited Adelaide soon after, however, with the economic downturn we stayed in England in our jobs. We have till Dec 10th this year to validate and forfill the residence criteria. We would like to have a holiday out of Aus in that time back to England due to parents being old. Confused and looking for clarity on this issue, can anyone help? Tim.
  10. We may be migrating out to Aus at the end of the year and prior to this wanted to buy a motor home for use in the uk and then ship it to Aus for the outdoors travel. We know there will be some modifications to make, however are a little confused regarding the timescale. I understand that we need to own it for 12 months to comply with Australain legislation. Does the 12 months ownership mean 12 months prior to migration? If we buy it 6 months before we migrate can we then store it for 6 months and then ship it at 12 months to comlpy with ownership rules? One other query I have is whether a caravan is classed under the same rules as a automobile for shipping and needs to be owned for 12 months prior to shipping. Can anyone advise please
